Air Mobile working well in 4.34
-
Having been one that likes to manage campaigns as fully as possible I would like to report on my success of using the Air Mobile option of transport aircraft. Running my 1st fully managed campaign with 4.34, Stock Korea Tiger Spirit, I have been able to successfully relocate 3 Patriot battalions North to Mirim, Koksan, and Kum Ni from air bases located in the South to provide coverage along the FLOT. I used to use the Air Mobile option with great success back in the days of Allied Force, pre-BMS 4.32. But this function never worked properly with 4.32 or 4.33. I do not know if this was specifically worked on by the Devs, but whatever was done I would like to show my appreciation for this function now being a useful tool again. THANKS!!!
As always I try to keep it as realistic as possible as I will only use this to relocate units such as air defense, infantry and the like, units that could fit on the aircraft in RL. I used 2 c-17’s to Air Mobile each of the Patriot battalions. The units were picked up directly from the air bases they were located, and their orders reset once they arrived at their new location. The units became active almost immediately once they were settled in their new location.
I have not tried this yet with choppers on battalions not located at an air base, just the C-17s picking up battalions located directly on an air base. I will report back when I do attempt to use choppers to air mobile units.
I plan to update this post with a video to show just how I set up the flights. I will do this as soon I have the time to do so.
Once again thanks BMS team for another pleasant surprise!

That sounds great. I myself have only recently started to manage campaigns and as such still finding my way. However I’m having a great time doing it.
Look forward to seeing your video.
Cheers!

Can you tell what is that Air Mobile option and how to use it ?

ThanksYou can use heavy lift aircraft (C-17, Chinook, etc) to move ‘airborne’ capable units to different areas. I.E an airborne infantry unit can get picked up and moved to seize a red side airbase. The ‘airlift’ option will be available in the mission tasking menu for those aircraft that can do the mission. You set a waypoint over a unit, choose a ‘pickup’ waypoint option and then use the ‘drop’ waypoint option on a later waypoint to place them elsewhere.
I haven’t combed through the manuals, but it would not surprise me if BMS has written the documentation for how to execute more in detail already.

Thanks a lot for this interesting topic, and the clear and well detailed explaination too.
With best regards.

I had no idea! This is why i LOVE Falcon!
Great thread.

This is simple incredible…waiting for video.
Many thanks!! Is it work even for TE?

Cantoo has been managing Campaigns for many years so you will get some good info from Him.
Good to see you posting friend.

Sorry for the delay in getting the video posted. I got on it ASAP. I had to practice creating more flights so I could do it in a more methodical manner, as the first few times I tried it was more a hit or miss method, as I know of no documentation that tells one how to do this. I won’t say just how much time it took the 1st time I tried and how much more time it took to duplicate what I did, but for me it was well worth the effort. It sure was nice to have Patriot coverage over the entire FLOT in my campaign:D
As far as working in a TE I assume it should work the same as Campaign, but I have not tested it yet. I also have not yet tested transport choppers that should have the ability to pick up battalions not located directly at an airbase. I have only used this with fixed wing aircraft on battalions already settled in position at an airbase. I will test with the choppers eventually and report back.
The video is quite long, 33 minutes, but a lot has to be covered and many details are required to set things up properly. Once I got it to a step by step process I can now create an air mobile package in about 7 minutes or less. Without a script to read from I did make a few errors in the video, but catch myself and correct myself. I hope you enjoy this tutorial and get some benefit if you are dedicated enough to watch the entire video.
Now one might ask why I didn’t do this with mission commander, but hey flying Falcon is a challenge is it not?
EDIT, I have noticed the video playback is much better resolution when the youtube quality setting is taken off “Auto” setting and playback set to dedicated 720p.

Superlative Cantoo Many thanks. I start to study now.

Cantoo is it important the number of C-17 you choose? is it related to the number of “stuff to move” or not? i saw in your video that you choose a flight with 2 C-17. If it was just one? And if one of two dead, what’s happened?
Anyway really cool think airmobile.
Thanks a lot. Ciao!

I can not answer with any certainty about the number of AC required to move different types of battalions Just use what you think would be required in RL to transport the specific type battalion you wish to air mobile, and as far as losing one of the two AC in the flight, it’s your duty to protect them! So don’t let that happen:boxing:
You can always add an escort to the package to protect them, but wait to add the escort until the Air Mobile tasking is all done and locked in place.

I’m curious, if after this movement of the patriot battalion, can you go back in and check the box to make it now handled by HQ ? And if you do will it mess things up (ie will HQ move it back to the original airbase or do other such wacky stuff?)

I never thought about reverting it back to the control of HQ. I just know once they were in place they were active almost immediately. I learned many years ago though if you didn’t take control and reset their orders they were immediately on their way back to their original pick up point. Also Hawk and Patriot that are in motion and not settled did not have the ability to fire on the move like you get out of a mobile AD battalion, like an SA-11 or 17 for example.

Thanks Cantoo!!

Thanks Cantoo, very clear and exhaustive explanation!

GExhaustive, for who you or me?
I would have been exhausted if I would have had to edit the video too before posting.;)

That’s just what I needed to learn how to take some more from Falcon.
Since this point I think we could go a little further, turning a simple TE into a real tactical action.
Your valuable experiences will certainly help … it’s time again to study how! Thanks a lot, Cantoo. I will forward this topic for sure.
With best regards.
