Yeah… AB flames look cool, like some shader instead of textures

The weapons bay in action looks great!

Thank you m8!
Question: Is that badge an original one or just your artwork? If it is original I am interested to include it to my patches -pack.

Hi Radium,
You made me love the looks of this airplane! I hated it’s look before in real life
Really good job mate!Cheers Obi1

It’s a pure artwork done on my computer !

Thank you very much Obi1

Very cool! Does it have a gun?
Well, Radium has already said, “no,” but I started to wonder where it might be if it does in fact have one in reality. The underside of the fuselage seems unlikely. Furthermore, one of the few areas they have left to mount a cannon is the upper surface of the airframe - note that this is also the case with Western aircraft. That said, take a look at the following images: you will see asymmetrical paneling on the upper airframe surface, above the engine intakes. Note the long panel over the right engine intake. Not sure what the current Chinese cannon inventory is, but that might be where it’s hiding a gun if it carries one…
Note now the location of the F-22’s M61:
Many A/A guns are angled a few degrees upward, so you might get adequate clearance for firing from the right upper intake surface?
-
Chinese seem to mostly use Russian or Russian-derived cannons. TBH, I don’t think that bit is a gun fairing, probably just an access panel. All available data suggests it doesn’t carry an internal cannon.
-
I think you’re more than likely correct, however, it’s an interesting thought exercise. The mission profile of the J-20 is most certainly long-range intercept and interdiction.

i m not sure but i think J-20 won’t mount a gun, even in future F-22, no gun neither.
these new generation jets are super expensive, ur commander would NOT encourage u going into dogfight with a 50 million dollar jet, it is a stupid tactic. if u run out missile, u should run and hide.
just like submarine, a 105mm gun was very popular before WW2, but no one do that today. stealth jet is like submarine, assassin style player. -
The F-22 and F-35A both have guns. The F-35B and F-35C do not have guns.

just like submarine, a 105mm gun was very popular before WW2, but no one do that today. stealth jet is like submarine, assassin style player. You’d be surprised how easy is to end up in a guns fight. It’s not about being out of missiles, but the fight getting so close together that you can’t employ them. In such a situation, the attacker could be in position of advantage, yet be unable to attack, and increasing the distance to allow for a Sidewinder shot could cost him that advantage. No matter how stealthy an aircraft is, it’s never completely undetectable, and no matter how good in BVR a fighter aircraft is, it needs to plan for WVR engagements as well. You can get away with not having a gun only if you’re making a dedicated interceptor (fast, but not all that maneuverable), which is what J-20 is.
OTOH, F-35B and C seem, at least to me, to be aimed at replacing aircraft which have air to ground as a primary role. Guns are of limited utility here unless we’re talking GAU-8. Not to mention they do not have internal guns. Both can carry a gunpod if needed, and likely would on an air to air mission.
BTW, deck guns were used because WWII submarines actually spent most of their time on the surface, so they had a lot more opportunities to use it than today. Modern subs fight exclusively underwater, because they don’t have to go up to the surface. They are also meant to attack warships (and each other), not supply convoys like they used to, and unarmed merchants were pretty much the only viable gun targets. It’s a completely different situation from air combat, which can very much devolve into a dogfight even in modern times.
-
It is also worth noting that it is not merely the platform, but the situation. Many engagements over SEA devolved into ACM not because of the limitations of the aircraft or the weapons but by the ROE which prohibited BVR engagements, in many cases. These same political constraints could readily occur again in a future conflict as they are politically rather than technology or tactically driven.
