Viruses in version BMS 4.34 ?! Need help!

Hello dear developers!
First, I want to thank you for your work and the wonderful F-16 simulator!
Now to the problems:
After I downloaded version BMS 4.34 from your official site (via the torrent link), my antavirus sounded the alarm. Re-checked on the site virustotal.com, he also gave results on viruses. I post logs from virustotal.com:-

Falcon BMS 4.34-Full Installer - failed to verify.
Also, some pages where you have placed links to version BMS 4.34 (on this site) after saving in pdf format are defined as infected (not all).
Please check this information if these files are safe, and I downloaded them and am now worried.
Thank! Waiting for your reply…

I’m computer technician(service&repair) since 2004…
1- Change your Anti-Virus(AVG/AVAST/Others are the worst of the worsts, even paid versions)… ESET NOD32 or Kaspersky are 2 of the best for gamers
2- Virustotal is probably the worst source of information… they use bad software references…
3- DO NOT trust free anti-viruses, if you can’t afford a good one(Nod32 is real cheap for its protection and low impact on performances), just use Windows Defender… It’s much better than AVAST/AVG&others…
Cheers

Windows Defender correctly reporting Windows 10 as the only virus on my PC. :drum:

fyi Bitdefender still reports IVC Client.exe as infected and quarantines it, post-install i just remove it from the quarantine which is safer than disabling the whole scanner.

BitDefender is a paranoid A-V, med-heavy on performances, and average “effective” protection…
I don’t like the amount of “False-Positive” detection it has…The problem with AVs like BD, McAfee, Norton, AVAST, AVG, Avira&Other “bad AVs” is that they haven’t upgraded their detection to the “intelligent level”, made possible by the latest developpement in AI technologies…

False Alarms" or “False Positives”

“Real-World test”, check the yellow line showing the “False Positives”… You should take one that has “0” FP…

back in 2004, Kaspersky and ESET were not too bad. These days, I’d just recommend Windows defender.

Hello
thank you for your work and the wonderful F-16 simulator.
I have the same pb of “False Positives”.
why don’t use Zip files ? -

Yeah the AV scene is indeed a mess, Windows Defender is baseline at best, Microsoft at least doesnt have to use that channel to exfiltrate files off your PC like Kaspersky

The best AV software is free, cross-platform and already pre-installed: a few pounds of grey, gooey matter between your ears. You should use it to
o browse safely using an up to date, open source browser with Ublock Origin & noscript;
o don’t open any weird stuff or follow links in emails; “If it’s too good to be true, it’s probably not true” applies more often than not.
o use a free, open source torrent client like “transmission” (available for all major platforms)
o don’t use warez downloaded from shady sites
o do use a safe OS like Linux for your day to day stuff and restict use of windows to gaming if possible.
o use sensible one-time / one - site passwords and store them in a safe place using “password gorilla” or any offline PW manager, protect the DB with a good strong password ; you can then share the passwd db between your devices using “syncthing”, owncloud or whatever.
o If you must, you can scan your windows partition offline from time to time using ClamAV for Linux.
I’ve been online since 1989 (longer if I count the BBS days) and have never run AV software (even on my Amiga)
Total number of infections so far: zero. (naturally I don’t want to jinx it, but you get the idea :))
All the best,
Uwe

well, uhm… not CHECK (but with time you get to know what “feels” right)
o do use a safe OS like Linux for your day to day stuff and restict use of windows to gaming if possible.
ugh, not check … but , even better , keep your day to day even in VM with days snapshot(s) - revert of eventual infection is never been easier … don’t even need to talk about system f***ups and/or privacy

+KeePass Check

not check , only if infection occurs …and Kaspersky is doing that already on daily basis … but anyway … Good practice … about monthly or less
I’ve been online since 1989 (longer if I count the BBS days) and have never run AV software (even on my Amiga)
hmm you were lucky, and/or smart, … that was exactly the time and the (os)system where the viruses flourished - beginning of vir - antivir wars … next was the ms/dos
Total number of infections so far: zero. (naturally I don’t want to jinx it, but you get the idea :))
well, got few back in the days …
1994/5/6 - “Bobo530” … ****ed up alot of exe’s (anyway games) on dos partition99/2000 - “I love you” - destroyed some (most) my jpegs - interestingly - got dat bitch from friends hard drive when connected , crap…eh, never too careful
2009-11ish?? (or later) - was UNBELIEVABLE LUCKY (and/or smart) - avoided “Ransomware” with a trick - got it exactly from a “shady site” (eh, wasn’t careful) …But! … after running a trojan , I’ve figured something was really odd … open/close of several minimized windows(cmd) and direct download of some disk encryption software (some 5-10Mb’s)… wtf… , luckily it didn’t froze the system/input … or it did close explorer.exe , but I’ve run it through task manager , and got UI back , and then checked registry\run (machine/user) and discovered new shady autorun key - DELETE (exit, wait few secs to save registry from cache) …poweroff machine with the button … re-start again … - Nothing happened … WHOOHOO … then had some cleaning/housekeeping to do … luckily never encountered any problems
All the best,
Uwe
Like a pro. :yo:

That you know of, since you basically don’t check for them
-
Heh, good point mate
I’ve done the occasional ClamAV run (as suggested above) from within Linux on the windows partition, but it’s turned out to be a rather pointless exercise as I don’t to anything important online in windows.
All the best,
Uwe

Thanks for answers!
Yes, many antiviruses have become too paranoid lately. And my antivirus after the update too.
