Pilotless plane

We lost a Viper driver off the coast of CA a few years back…they aren’t sure what really happened, but thinking was/is that he either G-LOC’d or went hypoxic and the jet trimmed out heading out to sea. They sent a couple more F-16s out to chase him and try to rouse him but they had to break off at point of no return. He splashed someplace in the Pacific…never heard anything more about it.

Wow, poor guy. What a way to go though.
-
…I got a worse one - I met a guy once that took a cold cat off the CV, ejected, and then got run over by the CV…and lived to fly again!
-
Omg ….

d rather regained counciousness i thing, maybe the latter…It’s also possible he may have broken his neck - not everyone can wear an HMCS, I know a gal that is marginal on that because of her neck size…so she only wears hers when it’s mission critical.

Too bad they could not eject him remotely, and pick him up

In the eighties a Mig-23 took off from poland behind the iron curtain and the pilot ejected after a power surge (ill famed on the Mig-23)
The aircraft crashed finally in Belgium…It was intercepted over Germany by F-15 and they clearly saw the aircraft without canopy, Apparently noone could decide what to do and unfortunately the aircraft finally crashed after flaming out into a house Killing 1 young guy.

There was also F-106 wich landed itself on a field.A policeman called airbase to ask how to turn off the still spooling engine.

I know another pilot - Harrier driver - that once had to eject over a farmer’s field. He raised his visor to read the checklist, and forgot to put it back down - so when he pulled the handle, the det chord went off in his face. He landed somewhere in the middle of the farm…the farmer walked all the way out from the house, asked him if he was ok. He said “yes”…so the farmer turned around and walked back to the house and left him there.
He then ended up gathering his chute and hiking to the highway, where he was recovered by a State Trooper.

Well a very helpful folk he was, after all he could shot him for trampling his crops
