Falcon BMS Alternative Launcher (Easy Setup, Keep Joystick Assignments)

Can someone who had crash problem on alt launcher install visualstudio to help me tracing the problem?
Also try deleting C:\Users<your name=“”>\AppData\Local\chihirobelmo</your>
I am installing VSCode at the moment. I won’t delete the path you mentioned (yet), in case you want something from there.
Ready for further instructions

Well, I have already fixed the problem thanks to your advice.
The user.config file was truncated. I could tell because there were 4x folders in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\chihiribelmo (2 for 1.5.1.0 and 2 for 1.4.0.0) and the older ones were not truncated. I just renamed the truncated file and Alt Launcher starts happily again!
Content of the bad file.

Hi chihirobelmo,
I understand correctly that if I want to load a certain profile, al I need to do is to rename the .key file of that profile in “BMS-Full.key” (after having made a backup of the original one) and loading it with Alternative Launcher ?
Thanks -
Thank you for the efforts on this tool - I have tried for many weeks to get the assignment of my TM Hotas to work without breaking every time i restart BMS - now I got rid of TARGET and every single button, switch and axis of my HOTAS and Pendular rudders just works flawlessly. !!
Honnestly - it was driving me mad and away from BMS but now I am finally able to concentrate on flying and fighting

Hi, I just installed Alternative Launcher and is great, but I found an issue that is driving me creasy; Alternative Launcher reverted to BMS - FULL keyfile and I can’t set the one I was using.
Thank you in advance for your help.
-
That the way AL is working it creates a new full key file every time you launch. You can’t use another one with AL

I’ve seen it reported in this thread that if you rename YOUR keyfile to “BMS - Full.key” AL will load your keyfile assignments, but I think you need to start with a profile BASED ON the full keyfile, i.e. with all the callbacks available in the profile (which is not the case with most custom keyfiles).
You could merge your own keyfile with a full keyfile to achieve this, but honestly it’s probably faster just to recreate your keyfile within AL starting from scratch as it is a good intuitive UI. Just make sure you assign your SHIFT key before assigning shifted actions!

Thank you, @javelin10; I just did it and it was fairly easy.

Hi,
I`m having some small issues with AL. The check box for Use 3 Way ON-OFF-ON switch for TQS:Dogfight keeps getting reset every time I open the Launcher. Any ideas on how to keep it checked? Also I lose my AB indent in the Set up UI. It was working but since installing AL it wont stick. -
Set AB detent with AL

Hi and many thanks for the tool. Works great.
One question, is it possible to use a different .key file to the ‘BMS-Full.key’.
Cheers
-
No the Alt launcher generates the key file you can’t mix

Thanks Oak,
Got a workaround by backing up the BMS - Full keyfile, and renaming my own as BMS - Full. -
I’m updated to U4 and running 1.51 of the AL. Whenever I reset the order in DevicesSorting.txt and then run AL, it resets the device order in that .txt file. I’ve tried setting DeviceSorting.txt to read only, but AL still changes the order and, for good measure, removes the read only flag that I just set.
Any clues…?

AndyIs this is just to change the order of the Keymapping columns in AL for you or for something else i’m missing? Just guessing, but if each controller has it’s own USB unplug all, then start AL with nothing and you should see no columns. Close it and plug in one, start AL, then the next, etc. and see if they show up in the order of installation. I would try it to confirm but mine works fine and I don’t care what gear is in what column. If i’m way off, sorry!
-
Thanks for the helpful reply. Yes, that’s exactly the reason and, of course you’re right, it doesn’t matter what order the columns are in in AL. My issue was more the fact that this is not how I understand DeviceSorting.txt is supposed to work and I don’t really like behaviour that I don’t understand.
As to your suggestion of unplugging everything, I guess I’m a bit reluctant to go down that road on the principle of ‘if it ain’t actually broke….’.
I just wondered if anyone knew why AL affected DeviceSorting.txt in this fashion, but it’s no big deal.
Thanks,
Andy

I have a CH fighterstick, throttle and rudder. Prior to running Falcon, I have to enable my Hotas from the CH Control manager program. Once done, the HOTAS mapping on my joysticks are recognized when I run the BMS Falcon game.
If I use this Alternative Launcher, do I still need to launch the Control manager, and if so, will it recognize my mapping in the CH Control program.
or
Do i NOT launch the CH Control manager and remap the HOTAS buttons in the alternative launcher program.
P.S. I watch some videos on how to do the joystick setup, and noticed that you can see if the computer/game recognizes you hotas setup. I noticed that I cannot see the hotas setup work in the computer unless I go through the CH Control manager. is this normal.

I haven’t used Control Manager in a couple years, but do you combine the gear in CM so you see a single entity in the game controller settings? Either way I would not use Control Manager at all (kill it and the CM process) and assign the CH’s DX button presses individually, axis assignments individually. Control Manager has not been updated (and never will be apparently) in 10 years, it’s just a problem waiting to happen IMO…

I don’t think you can run the CH joystick without enabling it in the CH manager. Currently it is combined in the CM, but I can turn that option off. I am just not sure if Falcon (or any game) would recognize the joysticks unless the CM is running. But I am not sure. I have been using the CH manager for over more than 15 years and never had a real problem (even up to current Win 8.1 which is what I run).

OK,just did some testing,Yes I can have the CH joysticks recognized in Falcon BMS without launching the Control Manager.
I will now try and run the alternative launcher and see if I can map what I want to the ch Hotas……( I hate changes in technology …older people can’t keep up )
