F4Wx – Real Weather Converter

Should fmaps be named for local time or zulu time? I.e. rolling fire starts at 0100 Zulu which is 1000 local. After manually loading the initial map, the game will load the next one in about an hour. Should the first file I want auto-loaded be 10200 or 11100?
And before I get a RTFM - section 7.5.1 of the tech manual says “the campaign engine will load the map when the time matches the file name.” with no clarification of zulu vs local.
I haven’t been able to try 4.35 yet, can anyone get him an answer on that? Otherwise give me a few days to check it myself

Awesome thank you. Follow up unrelated question, is there a way to get grib data from other months? While I’m all for the new anti-ice additions, I’d like to set some warmer weather to fly in rather than the sub-freezing temps currently in the KTO.

Don’t know, but your jet will perform better in cold weather and it is no that big of a deal.

To Ahmed and/or Razor:
any suggestions about the most proper folder to have the data folder installed to?
I tried to find some instrucions out, but there aren’t any, as seems. Thanks in advance.
Keep yourselves always safe and Merry Christmas to you (and your beloved ones too)!

I have a slight offset on the weather data for EMF theater to the northwest.
The only way to crosscheck this is with the temperature. Also when i save the .fmap from F4wx and i try to load it again from the application i have the ‘‘GRIB data is from another geographical location’’ error.

Hello,
I just tired and indeeed the coordinates for EMF in the F4Wx preset don’t seem to be the best (they were passed by some tester iirc before theater’s release). I’ve made note of better ones and I’ll try to get the presets updated soon. Regarding the warning about the different geograpical location…. are trying to load saved weather or saved fmaps??? The load from file option is to load saved weather data (through the hidden control+shift+s feature for example) to use local GRIB files.
-
Those EMF coordinates are now fixed (to the best they can be), plus I pushed a 1.04 update with minor updater changes, as the account that hosted the update files no longer exists. Links available on the first post.

Hey Ahmed,
First of all, thank you for your software, it is quite fantastic to bring an extra element of realism to mission creation.I did however notice that the coordinnates in Korea seem to be off. Here are a comparision between your software and windy.com for the same time period, both using GFS

I need a clarification: FMAP naming convention is well based on Local time and not on Zulu time? that s right?

so for the Ric 's case , FMAP file should be saved like this 010000.fmap, for a flight planned day 1 09:00 (local time) , right?
and so the “Sync with realtime” option zone is now useless

The problem in general is that Falcon 4 theaters are not 100% conformal to the real areas they represent, so you can’t get 1:1 representation everywhere. I normally use the temperature overlay to try to get the best fit on what to use. This is what I could see today for Korea with the current coordinates, that looks ‘close enough’ IMO:

I can’t see your attachment Ahmed

Lets try it again
For your clouds photo comparison vs windy.com also bear in mind that GFS data contains several cloud layer data. F4Wx selects the most significative of this data and fits it to what the BMS weather engine allows to depict (and disregards the rest). And for the weather type selection it further takes into account some additional parameters, like precipitation, to select the most appropriate one for the general conditions in that particular cell. Thus, having some differences with windy.com that straight away paints all GFS data is something to be expected. The overall weather you get in the sim should still be a very good representation of the real weather at that particular point.

Yes, I overlooked that one and it is still syncing to local time (d’oh!). It would still have a use otherwise. Unless it is bothering people much, I’ll wait until I finish some other work before pushing an update to fix that.

errr… something has changed , but NOT in F4wx … but in BMS …
I can’t load neither fmap in “Weather Commander” which is saved with the mission file in 4.35 (Korea, Balkans, my custom balkans)… So, please check that first.
When fmaps are created with F4wx I can open/edit them with “WC” no problem. … , or even old original fmaps in campaign dir eg “TvT Coop Event/ Sunny/ Poor”… etc.
But the moment you load that “original” in BMS weather … eg… 10500.fmap or any… and press “Save WTH” , that will save new fmap named as your tac/cam file … and that one is “index out of bounds” in WC…
That should be same file which was loaded via BMS weather … copy/paste.But now WC cannot recognize new file at all.
Has something changed format fmaps saved in BMS or there is something I don’t know about ?
-
Is that a F4Wx or a WC issue? I don’t understand the issue from your post. If this is F4Wx related please attach the particular files giving problems and/or steps to reproduce.
