Mandumi Airstrip

Rgr that, Malc, thanks. Still interested in the history of that imagination, though, if there’s any info on it.
Canuck - but Suwon is farther to the south than Kimpo or Seoul, and the usual need for the alternate is low fuel or damage. I realize it has TACAN and ILS, but it’s not, IMO, as useful as R222 when the need arises. I’d just go with Kimpo/Seoul instead, depending on my homeplate…

Why the original developers at Spectrum Holobyte/Microprose chose to ever put an airbase called Mandumi in the location they did is something we’ll probably never know. As you might appreciate, the BMS Dev team are always striving for realism, and this applies not only to the simulation of the jet but everything else too. Pusan AB has been removed too, and Kimhae will be relocated to its proper location eventually. Japan no longer has a badly located Kadena, but we put Iwakuni in to compensate instead. It’s all part of preparing for the new terrain. You may have noticed we have approximately a dozen new airbase models in 4.35 already which hopefully (I tried best I could) closely match their real-life counterparts? We have as many again in the Dev DB including several new locations - ROK will have a new model for every airbase which is jet-capable (i.e. the runway is at least 6000 feet long), Japan will have at least 4 new airbases including Tsushima (on the island between ROK and Japan) and DPRK will have some new also. This is today - who knows what tomorrow will bring!

There are beautiful and new airbases in Korea theater in 4.35, I usually to take off from Kwangju in the campaign I am running. Really a great work by the Devs. Even Taegu is cool, we needed more "immersive scenario " on that theme.
Cheers

Malc, thanks for the feedback. I pretty much assumed that Mandumi was removed for reasons of realism, but appreciate the “we’ll probably never know.” I have noticed the much increased realism of the airbases I use most–Seoul and Kimpo–and they’re great. You guys do wonderful work.

This brought a smile to my face, looking forward to it, thank you!

I just had a surprise about the “mandumi” name and would like to share with you. I am working on a DLC picturing the war in the Korea peninsula for another game and I am working right now in the compiling and positioning of all highway strips, airstrips, etc. I was looking at the Tactical Pilotage Chart TPC G-10B and inserting all of them in this game, when I found an airstrip with a small tag called “Manoumi”. This airstrip was abandoned according to the time line of google earth images around 2009. And surprise, it was positioned exactly at the same position as the Falcon`s Mandumi.
So, “Mandumi” existed, but it had a grass runway with about 400m on headings 17-35. It was also called R130 or G-130. It never supported fighters. It will be def. a must for the 90-early 2000ss campaing version.
See some figures: -

May I ask what it’s for? It’s the one place missing in DCS that is perfect for the F-86 and Mig 15….

I´d rather not comment right now. I can say it is not for DCS though.
