Nevada BMS 4.35.1
-
Good morning. You just did it. Once more again. And I’m going to tell you ‘why’.
Nevada comes with a custom ‘ppt.ini’ file. I made it and I’m responsible for. I didn’t test it before submitting to the devs, my fault, but thanks for the hint, I’ll do that in the future.
This premitted as due, in case you don’t have any clue about the reasons of this message (I’m here all ears to learn from you that), I’m just going to ask Falcas. This mine now just because I’m curious by nature: what do you mean for ‘normal’ play, dear mate?
Thanks a lot for all, and stay always safe.
With best regards.
Hi. Compadre,
By “normal play” I mean that someone, especially someone with a “normal”(whatever that is ) level of knowledge of BMS inner technical workings, can set up a campaign with his/her jets, get kneeboards, etc., and fly the missions. That’s what I’ve tested, and as stated it all works.
I remember times in the past where theaters wouldn’t even work with MC/WDP. So, and especially for a theater still being developed, you guys did a great job with it, IMHO. While I’m at it, here’s a shout out to Falcas. MC/WDP have come a long way in terms of integration, which no doubt helps -
Hi, Daison,
It’s funny you mention that , as I was thinking the same thing(not that I don’t like the modern stuff, too). It would be fairly easy to do here in Nevada, since F-14’s,A-6’s and earlier USAF (gasp ) jets are already modeled. With Mission Commander, simply go in and inactivate the 5th Gen, etc. Also, Sparrows and such are already in the Editor, simply load what you want. Lorik, for example, does lot of that kind of stuff.
Beyond that, the Mafia does have a project to bring “non Stock” jets into the theater(s). More on that later.Sure, I will try!

How far south does this theater run? I’d like to try my hand at setting up a TE in the R-2508 Edwards/Isabella area at some point.

It goes as far south as the US/Mexican border. I can’t remember if Edwards AFB is included, but the map does go east enough to included that area.
-
Excellent! This would be the first time I’ve tried to use the TE Editor - I want to do the R-2508 Sidewinder Low MTR as a TE. I live down 395 from Star Wars Canyon and have been itching to sim that MTR for some time (I’ve also flown it in RL Trainers, and for real through the Jedi Transition in the back seat of a RL F/A-18F)…the waypoints are published but I’m sure I’ll probably need to adjust them for BMS.
We’ll see what I may be able to do when I get some time…

Stevie,
The map goes all the way to the Reno/Fallon area , so definately yes for EAFB and Rainbow(Star Wars) Canyon. However, the tile sets for geography are still WIP, so I don’t know if the Canyon is visually there, yet. -

Don’t expect much. Tiles are 1km x 1km so the canyon definition is not great.
Urban area to right is Panamint Springs, rocky to left is location of Canyon.
Entering the canyon
Exiting the canyon. It is basicly that little dip in terrain. -
Map goes from Bly, Oregon across to Rock Springs, WY, down to Maverick, AZ and back across to Los Angeles, CA.
This includes Lake Tahoe/Reno/NAS Fallon top left corner, then Hill AFB/Salt Lake City top right corner, Luke AFB bottom right corner, then all the way to El Torro MCAS in bottom left. So all of LA, Edwards AFB, Barstow/Bakersfield up into the central Valley, Sierra Nevadas and Death Valley.
And in investigating this area the entire theater is filled with roads and bridges that are completely out of place and unneeded.
-
Great - the map certainly seems to cover my area of interest (NE of EAFB, and points north and east of Lake Isabella), and I can standby for future updates on the terrain. My main project right now will be to get the navigation for the route established. Once that happens I can visually tighten up route waypoints for better match. Looking over the web, it seems at least one other guy has done what I want to do for DCS or MSFS.
I would also suggest retaining/including/updating all of those roads and bridges in the Theater over time - I know that’s a HUGE task, but all of those features are points/sim targets which are used tactically in Range operations and free-play by NSAWC (in fact, we’ve had NSAWC Vipers overhead in the area most of this week) and other visitors. Those of us whom are actually familiar with the op area would greatly miss them!
BTW - driving north up 395 to NAS Fallon is a really cool tour!

The roads and bridges I am referring to are in the game but not there in real life. The game has a road running from Father Crowly point to the north, when in real life there isn’t a road there as it would be down into Star Wars canyon lol.
If you look at the river running in the BMS screenshot that is the first crevice closer to Panamint Springs in the top map, where the Star Wars Canyon is the next tile over with rocky texture. There is just not enough terrain definition in BMS to model it well. I will texture the area as best I can but don’t expect anything. Maybe once the new terrain engine comes out we can get a better level of detail.
Looking from Panamint back towards canyon. It is sad, this was one of my places I wanted to high light but there just really isnt anything there to work with. I will have to see what I can do with area.
20:30 is where they enter the canyon

The reason there are a lot of bridges and such in the desert is because of how the ground units move on the map. As any ground units that move across the map, they expend supplies and fuel. If there aren’t objectives filled with supplies and fuel at certain distances, the units will stall and cease movement. Thus all the bridges. Also, theatres that have more units than objectives don’t work and will CTD. We ran into that issue in Somalia. In order to fix that, bridges were added. The way BMS is coded, desert theatres can be problematic.
-
Yes - I’m pretty sure there is only one way (and one turnout) to get to Star Wars Canyon, and there really aren’t many roads in the areas along this route until you get to the eastern side of it, heading south towards Trona - and even then it’s only one single lane highway. There’s an uncontrolled airport in Trona that also makes a nice sim target.
The river of interest for this route is the Kern River. Most of the route through the mountains from Kernville follows the Kern River Valley - at least that’ss the way I fly it because I can violate all the course rules in the Trainer. Once you get through the Jedi (which as I look now makes me want to revise my nav plan…) you are on the valley floor side of the Sierras and the river doesn’t play. The actual course has you overflying Kernville and flying a straight line to point B from Isabella, but it’s way more fun just to follow the river at 300 AGL.
When the terrain is modeled right, this is a VERY cool MTR with a lot of subtle features/challenges if you fly it at < 300 AGL - like flying into rising desert terrain, and one turn point that feels like you’re simply about to fly yourself into the side of a rock face - but it pulls you up just short enough! That’s one of my favorite spots.
I use this route as a basis for building tasking and attack scenarios by including some surprise or task at various waypoints. Very much fun!

Got it all yours above.
And I announce that I got to fix that issue with the ppt.ini, I guess.
Thanks for having made some room in your PM… there’s something new coming soon.Happy Easter and stay always safe!
With best regards.

I must say that “Beautifully done” is an understatement!!! Even as a work-in-progress! Thank you for bring this back to Falcon. :thumb:
Not sure if anyone has notice this yet, but NAS Fallon is a bit out of position…by about 80 NM to the NW. I wanted to create a TE flying out of Fallon and noticed that it is located near Portola, CA and not east of Reno.

Thank you,

Quick question though. Any thoughts of including the Little A’Le’Inn as an easter egg of sorts??

Day of the Jackal TE
First time I win/survive in Jackal TE!

Won’t happen ever again.
I swear it.
Jokes apart: you did very well, bro. You’re skilled, it has been planned to be hard, this one.
To all the other good friends who will accept the chance to fight:
this mission will be made available soon, just like some other ones, as we planned to.
This one, just like all the previous I made, has been conceived to be flown following carefully times, altitudes and ROEs.
On the Blue side, there is one way to accomplish it: it’s in BMS features, and it’s up to you unveil and try to apply it as it’s fit to whilst you’re protecting the HAV (warning: U.S. President/N.C.A. aboard, behave).
On the Red side, well, … what am I expected to tell you to do,Enjoy!
With best compliments (to one) and regards (to all). -
