Falcon 4 History Chart

OpenFalcon was a separate team made up of only 2 former F4UT data devs. We started OF just to port SP4.2 to use the BMS exe. We had nothing to do with BMS other than collaborating closely with them. Eventually both teams merged after the leak of OF and flew under the BMS banner.

Whatever it is, Falcon 4 lives on… and on… and on…

I’m wondering what happened to all other F4UT data members. Did they all leave? (I also remember that you were one of the 2 former data dev ).
MigBuster> Yeah, Falcon and Falcon AT were pretty much the same software (AT had just enhanced gfx). Both had 2 extensions, called “Mission Disks 1&2” for Falcon and “Operation CounterStrike/FireFight” for AT.

cool pdf, and I love the FUTURE, 3 OR 4 WEEKS, great!!!

What happened is F4UT (SP1-SP3) started with large fan-base (coders, testers ,devs ,players ) this transfered to SP4 but with lose of many coders as it used same SP3.exe ,Then many other dev left cause to much time was passing on a release . SP4 while had a lot of data added also was delayed for various reasons . In the end of SP4 life there was only handful of dev left .
Honestly it almost didn’t get out the door without major bugs . -
I have just finished reading the Superpak manuals and was wondering what happened to that group. Did they join FreeFalcon or did they become part of OpenFalcon or BMS or are they being held in Cuba for disclosing secrets of the Viper?
Yes, the SP3 was nice piece of work

This should be stickied, IMO… it’s our history.
As it should have been in GlobalFalcon. -
I’m missing the Macintosh line! I come form there
IIRC it stopt with 106 for mac, so we waitn and waitn 3-4 falcon weeks for 107 ….
and i read more about 107, e-falcon, and all the stuff on the PC side. And XIS’800 pit’s, it crashed the mac version. but why? I found it out: i had 2 callbackslots in the pit.dat to delete that the mac version doesn’t know. After texture edit, more in…

Wow, great PDF! I didn’t start F4.0 until 08, and SP4.2 (which was 4 years old already, i never knew!) was the only mod (along with skins and pits and stuff) i could easily find (thanks to Frugal’s). I had also just discovered Jane’s FA-18 in 08, but with all these great mods and the community…i quickly abandoned poor Jane’s FA-18 (though a great sim, nonetheless).

So the “leak” lead to something good afterall …

Like many I’ve been around since the Atari ST days, indeed I actually got a copy of Falcon 3 even though I didn’t have a PC until much later (Uni had several PCs though, none of which were used at the weekend, except by me  ).
Like many I waited and waited and waited for news on Falcon 4 during that terrible period when nothing seemed to be happening (or at least being communicated) and when it finally arrived I too hoped one day PCs would be available to let you run it at full speed with all the bells and whistles turned on and not be subjected to a slide show at the FLOT.
I’m sure I’m not alone in having lost heart during the dark days when the community was fragmented by internal bickering and flame wars. So it was with no shortage of shock and awe that when eventually I found my way back to continue my love affair with this sim that it had come so far in the interim.
I never realised just how much work had gone on behind the scenes, and by how many. I for one am eternally grateful that so many people have given so much of their time and talent to make this sim better than we ever thought it could have been all those years ago.

+1.
Couldn’t have put it any better myself.

Quite a flow-chart. I’m lucky, as have many around here, to have been around since Day 1 and having taken part in several of the projects.
A big salute to the hundreds involved, over the years

So the “leak” lead to something good afterall …
No it set us back about 6 months in development while we all dealt with damage control. Testing etc came to a standstill while we restructured and both teams suffered because of it. The Merger would have happened anyway as it was the only logical way to go. The leak really hurt us badly and did not lead to anything good. You might have been flying BMS a year earlier.
So naturally any reference to leading to good things from that really pisses me off. -
Arty is a MASTER at pissing people off.:D

Can’t imagine 4+ years with all ppl on FreeFalcon and AF could do…
