MidEast theater 128 segments (for 4.35 U3)
-
what about F-16C Block 30 from incirlik Turkey?
This airfield is thirty miles to the west, outside the current 128 segment map. Doesn’t fit into the format.
I couldn’t do any change with mission commander, what’s the secret?
Launch Mission Commander.
Open scenario “SAVE0.cam”
Select the “units tab” > “squadrons”.
Select the required squadron.
Change the type of aircraft or move to the airbase. Then select the “advanced options tab”, press the “fix squadrons roster” button.
In the end push “SAVE”.
Start a new campaign. -
it worked now right after my reply, I don’t know why it didn’t the first time. Perhaps new airbases can’t be added but new aircafts can be added in preassigned airbases. Anyways, I’ll try to play tough and do it the realistic way. We do need block 10 by the way.

Thx SpbGoro, I hadn’t tried Mission Commander and you are correct, it loads the map and data just fine. Now i’m hoping to find a procedure\parameters for having WDP list the map (adding it to Theater.xml), and for Helios to see it… The WDP listing from WDP\Database\Theater.xml for Kuwait is below, just need the settings for <deflat>and below… Alfred - I don’t use MC to add squadrons, only to resupply if i’m out of something I deem critical to our success…
EDIT: In Helios only the “Kuwait_128” map seems to work and i’m unsure if it’s correct at this point…
<theater num=“13”>- Will make Num\ID\Base 16, next incremental number for a new addition
<id>13</id>
<base>13
<name>Kuwait</name> - Will make Name\NameIdx\Map all Mideast128
<nameidx>Kuwait</nameidx>
<map>Kuwait</map>
<location>\Add-On Kuwait\Campaign</location> - Will make it Add-On Mideast128
<deflat>25.09686</deflat> - No idea from this point down…
<deflong>42.11698</deflong>
<thrsize>0</thrsize>
<height>3358699.5</height>
<width>3358699.5</width>
<north>35</north>
<south>25</south>
<east>54</east>
<west>42</west>
<theater></theater></theater></deflat>These data above could be useful to be used, eve if with some adjustments, in TacView too, I guess…
thanks for sharing, dear Icer.
Awaiting our Goro’s kind confirm about the last one, of course.
With best regards.

The DefLat DefLong you can get from the Falcon BMS 4.35\Data\Add-On Mideast128\Terrdata\terrain\terrain.map file. The last 2 sets of 4 bytes are the Long and Lat.
N20.4937E37.3761
Height/Width with can be calculated from Segments so 128 seq x 16 tiles = 2048 tiles 1 tile = 1km 1km in BMSFEET = 3279.98 -> 2048 * 3279.98 = 6717399.04 not like you xml that shows 6713799
(BMS doesn’t use real world 3280.83ft/km the 3279.98 are taken a) from FF source code and own calculations fro Tacview overlays I made that match within 3 feet)South and West are already defined by DefLat Long
North and East can be calculated with the following formula
FT_PER_DEGREE 365221.8846f RTD 57.2957795f //Radians to Degrees DTR 0.01745329f //Degrees to Radians EARTH_RADIUS_FEET 20925700f //The Latitude and Longitude of the SW corner of the theater //in Degrees. Stored in MAP theater file. float StartCoord_Lat = 20.4937; float StartCoord_Long = 37.3761; float ownship_North = 6717399; //Your input value in feet float ownship_East = 6717399; //Your input value in feet float cosLat = 0; //Temporary var float outCoordLat = 0; //Output Latitude float outCoordLong = 0; //Output Longitude //Latitude in Radians outCoordLat = ( StartCoord_Lat * FT_PER_DEGREE + ownship_North ) / EARTH_RADIUS_FEET //Cosine of Latitude cosLat = cos( outCoordLat ) //Longitude in Radians outCoordLong = ( ( StartCoord_Long * DTR * EARTH_RADIUS_FEET * cosLat ) + ownship_East ) / ( EARTH_RADIUS_FEET * cosLat ) //Converting to Degrees outCoordLat = outCoordLat * RTD outCoordLong = outCoordLong * RTD
Which result to North= 38.8863 EAST = 61.0050

For adding a theater to tacview getting the coordinates is a complete different story. In Tacview the Earth is a globe and not flat as in BMS.
And last thing to note BMS only knows coordinates that are in the N-E Quadtrant of the world. So the above can’t be applied to theaters i.e like Panama that are located W of Null Meridian/Greenwich or South of the equator

Any idea how to add E-2/E-3 for the Iranians that will actually frag missions, with MC and without getting a CTD?
EDIT: Nvm, just saw Goro’s comment.

As a reconnaissance and control aircraft, Iran has a RC-135 (sqd552 located at “Persian Gulf” Airbase).
Through the mission commander program, you can change this squadron to the E-2/3 you need. -
To good Oakdesign:
thanks a lot for all, dearest mate. Actually I was seeking for those yours, but I wasn’t able to get where you posted.
And about TacView, you are until too right… I am still struggling (literally) with its conversion formulas, but I didn’t get how to make all that stuff working finally.
Clear sign that I didn’t change since my first bad experiences at school with maths and stuff like that, I guess.Lucky me for having chosen a more fit kind of job for my living, then.
With best regards.

The coordinates I used were based on what I could discern from the cursor position in Mission Commander Map display, I’m amazed my “best guess” was close to correct and actually worked well!

.
apparently every time an update is done in this theater the mission commander must be reinstalled or else it will not function as it should.

I’ve been using MC and Mideast128 and have not reinstalled, why do you say that? I did have to fiddle a bit to get the map to work, but thats it…

it does work without reinstalling but you’ll only get to fly blk 40 and below. New squadrons can’t be added either but names of flights can be changed.

Isn’t that the way its supposed to be?? I’m in a Block 25 and having a blast with 9Ps and CBU 87s! Just don’t even bother with the Sparrow, get her in nice and tight…

In the program, the mission commander - everything worked and works, without changes.
I can’t even imagine how this can be achieved so that the program would stop working, perhaps you have some old version of the mission commander.PS.
Anyone else have a problem with the mission commander and this theater? -
More than a simple guess, that yours, dear Goro.
Couldn’t explain that seemingly “weird” Alfred’s bad experience otherwise.
Me, for example, never had anything the like, and with any theater most of all: possibly for that same reason you explained?Hope this helps.
With best regards to all.

One of the most complex military operations of the Air Force.
IRIAF - Attack on H3. -
iraqi jet colors in the movie were miss represented, and the iranians never had blue tomcats at that time. In reality iraqi air force brought havoc on iranians during that war but that particular airbase was interesting to know. I thought H3 was artificial but obviously not. Thank you for posting.

Just had a great DEAD mission on a pesky SA6, 2 FA18s for escort, 1 EF-111 for EWS, and my 2 ship of Block 25’s. Kept the EWS under 10 miles out, the 18’s took care of two 21’s sent to mess us up, and the SA6 could not lock us. Rippled 4 CBU87’s to be sure and adios SA6 battery! Only weird thing is it is pitch black out at 16:00?

It is Zulu time.
Sunrise and sunset times for a given geographic area - you can see on the “weather” tab.
