Maverick's blinking
-
I know this is an old issue but is it possible at all that there is a bug that makes the crosshair blink even when all parameters are met (the keyhole, range, …) I have used AGM-65s many many times but sometimes the cross hair blink and never stops blinking no matter how correct the position is! what is going on here?

Hi,Alfred,
Mav’s can definitely be feisty. I, too, from time to time, have said to myself that “this must be a bug”. It always turns out I was doing something to make the Mav unhappy. If you can repro it, may I suggest you post an ACMI? -
@alfred do you remember what height you were approaching the target from relative to it? Sometimes it seems if I’m too low down I get the flashing cross despite being centered in the keyhole
-
height was around 18,000ft, and I shot it before at 300-320kts with no issue, and range was about 8. I remember in previous versions it flashes with all the parameters fulfilled but once I click on FOV it stops flashing and it is ready to shoot. I have to mention one thing, I was about to shoot SA2 but the SA2 shot at me so I maneuvered a little which made the maverick loose it’s locked target, then I locked it again. In the second time handoff was quick but flashing never stopped. Could that be it? if yes how would handle a lost target to be locked again.
-
Mavs have their own mind at times. If the crosshair doesn’t get steady, break lock and lock again.

If you initiate a handoff and do not fire it on that point tracked target you’ll need to switch SOI to WPN page and TMS down and then switch SOI back to TGP before initiating a handoff again on that Mav.

I just initiated handoff but the TGP picked another target (close to the one I meant to destroy-perhaps it was hotter) TMS down while TGP is still SOI designate again but same situation TPG kept picking the adjacent target, and I kept doing that until TPG picked the correct target. Waited for handoff completion then fired, and correct target was indeed hit.

you don’t need to switch SOI to cancle a completed handoff while TGP SOI
If TGP SOI and PointTrack TMS Right rejects the HandoffDash-34 page 195
TMS-right, with TGP SOI, at any time, causes the last missile to reject the last target
page 179 Mav Hotas Functions
TGP SOI + POINT TRACK Rejects HANDOFF target and returns to AREA
-
@oakdesign Thanks, that will save me a step, I was rejecting the target by the method I mentioned. Same result just not the efficient way of doing it.
-
@oakdesign thank you for the hint. If the handoff is not complete and still in process however pilot knows the locked target is the wrong one then he can TMS down and TGP lock again for the correct target, and handoff will be carried out for the new target.
