Solved Terrain flickering all the time
-

Seems like a driver issue…

Never experienced this

-

Is it tearing…? Did you try vsync…?

-

@Aragorn
Tried vsync now.
It did not help.
Also tried triple buffering, changed antialiasing quality but the result is the same.
Flickering terrain.
Any other suggestion?

I’ve always experienced that on strips but not on main airfields.

I’ll defer to Icer there with the driver uninstaller tool - whatever works to get you back to factory settings and fresh driver installation is the place to start your troubleshooting.

I’d also suggest making sure this is not a cooling issue, check the GPU temps when this is occurring to be sure it is well below 90C - a longshot, but a step worth checking off the list.

Another thing to try would be to find the bms .exe and right click it - select the Compatibility tab along the top, then check the box for ‘Disable fullscreen optimizations’

(edit - just saw this graphic error - arrow WAS pointing at ‘Disable fullscreen optimizations’ checkbox, not sure how this happened but I did just get out of surgery and these pillz are dopey as hell)

Lastly, once you’ve reinstalled your GFX driver, you should return to the 3D Settings config panel to ensure the power management mode is set to ‘Prefer maximum performance’

It would also be helpful to find out if this issue is persistent across multiple games or just BMS, so if it’s still happening after all this, fire up something else (or a few different games) to see if it is consistent across all games. If further troubleshooting was needed, this would be important to note (as well as the temperatures things above).

Best wishes and good luck! Hope it’s something simple like we’ve suggested here.

@SemlerPDX
Thanks,
I’ll try the uninstalling method as this is the last resort.
All other indications are normal. Temperature is not an issue since this occurs right when I start the game when the temperature is low (I verified this)

Could push on the GFX card and power cables for it to be sure they are seated to check this off the list…
-Have you recently updated or reinstalled the BMS program? Reinstalling could be a thing to try, of course, and you can backup your personal config files before hand, yet first-run on new install should be without any previous setup files as part of troubleshooting, to rule out any bad settings carrying over
-Is the age of the drive which BMS or your OS installed upon very old, or possibly dying due to age? (5-10 years for HDD, SSD’s depending on manufacturer and published ratings)

EDIT: -Is the Display Settings in Windows/NvidiaCP for your monitor set to the correct Refresh Rate of the actual hardware? (A 75Hz monitor running at 60Hz would not be ideal, for example)

A long shot you could try, in addition to reinstalling BMS (possibly from fresh downloaded files, not the same as before) would be a Windows File Systems Checker, and maybe even Microsoft Safety Scanner though I expect that would be the longest longshot, you seem like a savvy PC user and likely nothing malicious is causing this.
I hurts nothing to run through both of these Windows utilities, doesn’t take more than about 30 minutes for either, IME - but honestly, it’s more of a thing to check off the list, and I put more faith in reinstalling the BMS program or troubleshooting the GFX card and/or settings rather than an OS issue.

If there is an OS issue, this will sort it in less than a half hour:

“If some Windows functions aren’t working or Windows crashes, use the System File Checker to scan Windows and restore your files. Though the steps below might look complicated at first glance, just follow them in order, step-by-step…”
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files-79aa86cb-ca52-166a-92a3-966e85d4094e

To verify the safety and security of your Windows installation, use the Microsoft Safety Scanner: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/intelligence/safety-scanner-download

@LorikEolmin This is what i see:
<a href=“
” target=“_blank”>

I also have not seen this, but I also concur the latest NVidia drivers seem to be a little buggy/glitchy.

Here are some more baseline questions / things to try…

1. Does this happen in Fullscreen or Borderless mode (or both)?

2. Windows 10 settings … under “Graphics Settings” do you have the option to enable/disable “Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling”?

3. NVidia settings … what do you have for Anisotropic Filtering? And for the four “Texture Filtering” settings…

Esp. setting “Texture filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization” => Off can reduce some shimmering effects… I’ve seen that on some cockpit textures, and I think on some runway surfaces, but never the background terrain like in your video.

[Edit … adding]

4. Also what do you have for “Image Scaling” setting on Nvidia panel … I notice they changed the way that setting is presented, in a recent driver update, so that always makes me nervous. It has some dependency to the “scaling” setting on the “desktop size and position” page.

I recommend “Perform scaling on => GPU” and “Image Scaling => On” with no sharpening or blurring applied (I think that’s the “50%” midpoint on the new simplified slider UI … but not sure).

HTH

-

1. It happens in Fullscreen and Borderless mode?
2 Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling is ON. I never touched it as far as i can remember
3 Anisotropic Filtering is set to application controlled
Texture Filtering is set to its defaults - did a fresh install

image scaling is off

Thanks for all those suggestions @SemlerPDX I will check some of them and others I already verified.
I may wait for 4.36 adn hope it sorts things for me.
Or perhaps it will disappear just as it appeared though i don’t really believe it will.
I’ll keep trying.

@janjan just watched your video. Man that is horrible. I hope you get that sorted soon. I’ve nothing to add to the help line, since all seem competent suggestions. Good luck to you, sir.

@janjan If you can approximately timestamp when the problem started, try checking that date vs. the update history of Windows. Go into Settings-Windows Update-View Update history

Since NVidia resetting does not help, it could be related to some system update
