taxi late interrupt takoff sequence

Just drive around if you are late?
J

The sim can account for a lot, but not for an AFK pilot. Am i reading that screenshot right? You are not the flight lead in this flight, but Mudhen31 is? Either way, the thing to do as stated is pause the sim when AFK, can’t expect the programmers to account for EVERY scenario such as this, ya gotta work with what is available.

@SOBO-87 i m talking about this bug, not my toilet.

@SemlerPDX i m hawkeye71, mudhen31 is AI, mudhen32 mudhen33 mudhen34 are AI.
the bug is: ATC should not stop AI for me. ATC thought i was NO.1 to takoff (in schedule), so when i call “taxi for departure”, he stop all flights after me (in schedule),
but i m casual player, i can’t guarantee takoff on time. ATC should have basic fault tolerance. if i was late for few minutes, the whole airport shutdown?

-

@SOBO-87 @SemlerPDX Not sure it’s worth insisting; let him work on a new code for ATC and everything that makes BMS not perfect, then we’ll talk about our own toilets while saying we don’t, to point out everything that should be improved in his work.

@LorikEolmin so u think bms dosn’t need to improve?
and u never encounter flight delay in real life?

-

@LorikEolmin so u think bms dosn’t need to improve?
and u never encounter flight delay in real life?

@Gear5 no, i believe he’s saying there are issues with BMS, but there are not the resources to fix them all right now.

Several people have suggested workarounds, I don’t think they are saying you are wrong or wrong to highlight it.

@CriticalMass it is ok.
in some cases i can bypass AI planes, but in some cases (e.g. narrow taxi corridor) i was stuck too, no room to go around. especially in campaign, many planes on ground and taxiing, sometimes i was surrounded.

i test 4.34 and it is fine, so this is new bug in 4.35. maybe we delete the new line up code and reverse to the old?

Things are complicated enough as it is, and to have curveballs related to the simulator as opposed to IRL things modeled in that simulator thrown at you can be daunting. But it really is as simple as being present for the actions you are expected to take as a (sim) pilot, and to simply pause the sim if AFK.

You completely confused the ATC which does have priorities for just you (the hooman) that seem to have been demonstrated by the AI pilots freezing in position to allow your late bird(s) to jump ahead in the line. If this was not the case, then the “bug” report may well have been, ‘I was late for my taxi, now there are two flights lined up and blocking the taxiway all the way to the runway.’

Six of one, half dozen of the other… it’s still just a computer sim, and there is only so much you can code for, and in the end if things go FUBAR, unlike real life, you can just load from the beginning again (or load from beginning and jump to Taxi/Takeoff since you already simulated RAMP for that flight anyway, who cares if it’s contiguous?).

Really hope you don’t think any of us offering tips or counterpoints are trying to be mean or unfriendly, it is NOT the intention… people gonna keep it real, and point out the obvious with gusto and that’s no measure of how cool these guys are - we all just like to poke fun now and then, and it’s only to push someone to build themselves up rather than a malicious attack to tear them down. Do what we do, pause when AFK so ATC doesn’t go haywire (it’s pretty rare to try to recode just for the scenario of a hooman not at his PC, not using ‘pause’), it’s not worth any further headaches.

-

Wait a second, is collision even modelled on the ground between human player and AI? If not, simply bulldoze through without any harm to yourself or the AIs

-

You completely confused the ATC which does have priorities for just you (the hooman) that seem to have been demonstrated by the AI pilots freezing in position to allow your late bird(s) to jump ahead in the line.

it is.
i made same test in 4.34, the ATC work very well just like real life. so i think someone make a new line up code in 4.35, it leads to this unwanted consequence.
i don’t remember i encounter serious problem in ground operation in past years. this is my 1st time encounter sth very bad on ground, traffic is jammed while takoff and landing.
i dunno what bugs the old code have, and what benefit the new code have, maybe u give me a hint?

-

@jayb there is collision. but the plane model is not precisely calculated.
if that AI plane move a few feet forward, we explode.

-

Simple solution would have been to park off to the side so the AI would not be blocked by your jet, you will find that your own flight may take off without you if you take too long to get back in the pit though. Normally if I want to jump the queue, and there’s a flight in front of me on the hold lines I will wait to the side until they leave. You can of course take off without your AI but be prepared for them to get blocked by other jets who are taxiing in front of them. Otherwise stick to the ATC order and everything works fine. Have you read the section about ATC operations?

Hi, Gear, I’m with Semler is a couple of ways. First, if you have to go AFK, pause the Sim.
Secondly, I honestly don’t know if I’d call this a bug. I don’t know what might have changed in 4.35, but it seems to me that this is the ATC doing the best it can in the situation. Think of it this way- in RL if your jet went hard-down( or if nature called ), you would call and report that, and the ATC would adapt. BMS simply is not programmed for that scenario.

-

I honestly don’t know if I’d call this a bug.
BMS simply is not programmed for that scenario.

not really, in real life, if my flight was late, the ATC’d just put my flight at the end of queue, nothing happen, no one care.
the ATC won’t shutdown the whole airport for me. i think dev no need to reprogram for this, they can just not program for this, don’t look up the takoff schedule, just put me at the end of queue. i think this is the way 4.34 do it.

You can of course take off without your AI

no, u have to call ATC for taxi, if u don’t, ur AI won’t takoff at all.
but if u did (call for taxi), all planes stop.

-

no, u have to call ATC for taxi, if u don’t, ur AI won’t takoff at all.

You didn’t understand my reply. If you call “Request Taxi for Departure” the ATC puts your flight in a queue, if you are not the 1st flight in the queue you (as flight leader) can taxi to the hold lines, where you will be prompted by the Tower to change channels (Preset 3), you can then call “Ready for Departure” twice and the ATC will normally clear you to take off. This is what I mean by jumping the queue.

My point is that you can take off BUT your AI may not be able to if there are other flights on the taxi way between you and them.So the best scenario is to wait in the queue and follow procedure. If you wish to jump the queue and expect the AI to come with you make sure there are not other jets in their way.

-

@Kavelenko i can do as u say, i can takoff anyway, but i don’t want to.
if i call “Request Taxi for Departure”, the whole airport shutdown, i don’t want them shutdown, this is why i said it is a “bug”.
i don’t want to jump the queue, i want to be put in the end of queue, because i m late.
i don’t want all the planes stop for me. but they do, i hate it.

@Jetsun It’s a good virtue to queue patiently, isn’t it?

-

@Gear5 depends of the why, everything is virtue when done with altruistic motivation, selfish motivation ruins everything.

@Jetsun Friedrich August von Hayek disagree, he said everybody selfish lead to public good.
Although I think he’s exaggerating a bit.
