Solved Very strange Air-Ground Radar display
-
I watched Mav-JP’s BMS 4:36 - AGR Explained video, but…
When flying 4.36, the ground clutter contained neither bamboo chairs nor power cables.
…These may be featured in an upcoming build…?
-
@Aragorn it will be there in 3-4 weeks. That was the developer’s video
-
@Leech - You have been only respectful and patient with me, and I truly appreciate that.
I guess that decades of using a “magic” A/G MFD display has spoiled me. Perhaps if BMS would have printed in large block print at the front of the A/G chapter: “WARNING: FORGET YOUR DECADES OF EXPERIENCE WITH FALCON’S A/G RADAR DISPLAYS. REAL LIFE IS WAY DIFFERENT AND WE’RE GOING TO ROCK YOUR WORLD WITH REALISM, READY OR NOT”. Maybe then I wouldn’t have been so psychological resistant to the major change you insist (and I 90% accept now) is realistic.
I’ll get used to it. I’ll probably rely a lot more on my TGP. Honestly, like MaxWaldorf commented earlier, I don’t see why a F16 pilot would want to mess with A/G radar in real life.
Hint: Maybe a ‘Full-Display A/G Radar’ config option??? If you can offer an unrealistic refuel rate option (which I use and appreciate) and many other ‘enhanced/simplified’ options (many of which I use and appreciate), then why not a ‘Full-Display A/G Radar’ option that simmers have been using literally for decades?
set g_fFullDisplayAGRadar (Default 0, Option 1)
Please just think about it.

@Mav-jp said in Very strange Air-Ground Radar display:
What is lacking in the display is the smoothness in the shadows areas ,
IT is not Brutal in/off like we have now but unfortunatly that’s the best I could do with current display code .
Someday we will have a better display
Your floor is a bit dirty… You should vaccum a bit more

@MaxWaldorf Ground clutter !
-
@Leech Initially, my ground radar works like the diagram but after awhile the cursor position is not centered in the horizonal scan but closer, outside the scan. Making it impossible to lock on to any targets… Short of backing all the way out to desktop, I can’t reset to to the center of the band. This happens normally when using mavericks. But switching to different weapon doesn’t reset the cursor position.

@Amway14 I really don’t understand your problem.
Could you please provide a video. It will help us understand.
Cheers! -
Ok, was bsy testing… ~@5000 feet works best , most of the ground is covered … there shouldn’t be any problem here. Detection is what it is, … higher then that you create blindspot in near region as expected… as seen on DEV-flashlight
I understand transitions are code limited … this is what it is.
If you find yourself limited in, STP mode, small “band” , just work your altitude/attitude AND/OR edit steerpoint height in List-Dest DED page to a “0” zero.To sum up … everything works as expected within current limitations… and probably after 100 iterations we’ll develop nice “muscle/brain” memory so in the end we become borg indoctrinated in current standard
Thanks @Mav-jp for introducing this nice step to reality!!
(me too listen spacengine ost everyday )BTW!! SnoplwShortcut is out of action - Bug?? / Feature??
It works when accessed in mfd, no problem, but I was using the shortcut in Cougar TMS-left(S3shift) … and that is no-go anymore.
Probably new code forgot about that feature… if you will keep it , so you know…and PATROL missions can’t be finished, mission design expects to ‘destroy’ something … which is not the scope of patrol/recce-patrol ? (not sure which one is the recon one) mission.

@Mav-jp This is a perfect example - hope this clears things up for folks here. This is exactly how we should all hope and expect the AGR to function, and is far more realistic than before
-
@Leech Confirm Snowplow shortcut doesn’t work
-
@danster SP is working fine from my end. What exactly are you experiencing ?
-
@Leech This. SimRadarSnowplow - shortcut to SP mode, not SP mode itself.
-
@Leech I was using the ‘radar cursor zero’ callback in the air-ground mode. I eliminated that and the cursor stayed centered in sweep. Problem solved.
