Falcon BMS Alternative Launcher (Easy Setup, Keep Joystick Assignments)
-
@chihirobelmo I pushed “launch” today and my computer crashed out to a reboot. After that I can’t start alt launcher anymore, I’m getting errors.
I’m thinking reinstalling might fix this? My xml files probably got zapped. Where are they usually stored? -
@Cloudless In you User config folder where the Falconbms config file is located.
-
@Jambo A number of the xml files were corrupt. Deleting them alt launcher will start. Unfortunately there are no maps displayed of any kind anymore, the list is empty, no commands are there.
Edit: looks like a bunch of files got corrupted including falcon bms.cfg, the auto key file, and device sorting.

@chihirobelmo just pushed 2.1.0 at GitHub. For those of us waiting for the DX128 support, note that you will have a 4 device limit now for that since BMS still has a 512 max DX support. Away from my computer so I assume/hope you can still assign axes to other devices than those 4 and of course can always bypass by using your traditional device mapping software. I away from my computer right now so trying to wrap my head around what is now best when I use X65F HOTAS, 2 TM MFDs, ICP, TM TPR pedals, Saitek AV8R modded to be buttons and volume axes, Saitek X56 throttle as buttons, and G13 (although that will stay mapped by Logitech software).

The only Device I have that would be DX128 (I have 7 devices/columns including a “virtual joystick” that does nothing and I have no idea what/where that is ) would be my Warthog throttle, which by my math means a possible total of 320 DX assignments. Are ALL Devices set at 128 with the new Alt Launcher by default? Makes no sense to set a limit on devices… and it wants me to “upgrade” every time I start AL…
-
@Icer not sure, but my understanding is since you have to turn on DX128 with a .cfg I think it’s all either 128 or 32. I don’t think this is @chihirobelmo’s fault, it’s a BMS limitation. But honestly I haven’t read much in the technical manual because as soon as I saw DX128 support I put the brakes on fully transitioning until AL supported it since I also have a lot of life stuff going on. Agreed though in my case, there is only one device I would prefer to have as DX128 which is my X65F. But it’s also the one I use the most and would be most convenient to mapping to have DX128.
I will probably still go forward with DX128 and have my 4 devices the X65F, MFDs, and ICP as long as I can still program axes and not DXs to my AV8R for volumes. If not, I probably stay DX32.

Saitek X56 throttle as buttons
Intrigued!
-
@CriticalMass well and as a collective when in DCS helicopters. But the base switches and dials are used for most of the left side engine/comms stuff. The throttle buttons are mapped and labeled too.
-
Great update! If I’m understanding correctly I can’t have 5 or more devices now?
I did find one bug(?), when I use the category filter, saving a bind changes it back to “TOP” filter every time.
-
@Snake122 it appears you can have over 4 devices if some are only axes at least. In my case pedals.
-
@Cloudless From page 153 of technical manual:
“In addition 4.36 now supports 128 btn. devices. That raises the logical number to 2048 (16 devices * 128
buttons)”So 16 full devices should work fine…
-
@javelin10 strange as the alt launcher site indicates a limit which is the reason for a restriction.
-
So I’m encountering a weird issue since the 2.1 update. Ever since the update the alternative launcher has all of my keybinds but they aren’t being applied to the game. I’ve tried everything I can find online to fix it, which isn’t much considering I haven’t seen anyone else report the same issue. Even reinstalling the entire sim and starting from scratch didn’t help. There are no errors or anything being reported but when I get in game none of my controls are actually being set, I remember there being a “start without controls override” option in the launcher but I can’t find it anywhere now, and weirdly when I go into the in-game setup menu what the launcher and my VKB software report as buttons 14, 15, 16 etc are being shown as buttons 380, 381, 382 with no corresponding function. I am also unable to set any controls using the in-game menu.

@Lavender Can you send me your User/Config zipped?
-
BTW it was a misunderstanding, BMS4.36 seems to support 4096DX so no 4 device limits. instead 16x 128DX devices

Thank you @chihirobelmo, I will upgrade away, reprogram, and this will bring BMS into my group of DX128 sims so I don’t have to remember to stop the DX128 Warthog Script every time I run it!
Edit: Upgraded seamlessly, ran my TARGET Script, as expected I have a new Throttle name with no entries, and reprogrammed without issue in about 5 minutes! Thanks @chihirobelmo !!
-
@chihirobelmo Yeah, I will DM it, thank you!
-
@Lavender looking at your config file there are two XML files with different instance GUID. But for BMS they will look for the same productID like you can check with DeviceSorting.txt
-
@chihirobelmo So I should change it to match? does it matter that it’s purposely split into two devices in the VKB software to avoid the 32 button limit in some games?

I don’t own VKB but possibly… can you try connecting only X-56 and if the problem still happens or not? only for testing.
