Am I seeing this right?? You have BMS installed within Steam, within Falcon 4, within the BMS Setup folder? I can’t possibly understand why you would be encountering problems…Yes sir Quasi… when I start the ACMI recorder the game crashes immediately. I then have to find that ACMI file and delete it or the game will not re start.
I do not know how to fix it.
-
@Quasi_Stellar is saying Falcon 4.0, BMS setup files and BMS install must be in separate folders.
What you have created there is a Falcon black hole.

Gents,
I am not an expert in any of this, but there is an old lingering bug/trick to look out for.Go to your acmi folder. Normally they are all the same image icon (tacview blue squares in my case).
If there are ANY files that are not like this (Ie, one that looks like a white piece of paper), which will usually be at the top - DELETE THIS -.
Sometimes an acmi file gets corrupted (normally if the game crashes/closes while an acmi is saving) and it will cause bad things to happen with your game.
If in doubt, copy all your files in your acmi folder and move them somewhere else (so the folder is empty) and see if this helps. If it magically starts working, odds are on you have a corrupted file.
Hope this helps

Nice catch @Quasi_Stellar …
BMS install could be simplified more. I wonder how many of the weird bugs people report “fixed by reinstall” were originally just due to (good intentions) moving the base dir somewhere under %ProgramFiles%, and then various features of the game run into file-permission errors.
Maybe this is a tested/supported scenario … but I kinda doubt it. (and certainly not under Steam/F4 folder…)

It’s pretty well documented, and not too far from where you are standing right now.
https://wiki.falcon-bms.com/start-with-falcon-bms/install-update
a couple of missing items are: don’t install Falcon BMS in your Falcon 4.0 folder and run Falcon 4.0 once before installing/running BMS (to make sure the F4 stuff goes in the Registry).
-
@Quasi_Stellar Hey, thats where all pron is hidden
-
@CriticalMass it will not allow me to install anywhere else.

Well then something is very wrong. You should have 1 folder called x:\Falcon BMS 4.36 Setup and running setup.exe from there you should be able to put the Falcon BMS 4.36 just about anywhere you want. Of course it makes the most sense to put it on the same drive, but you don’t have to.
-
@Icer I tried everything the illustration you provided is not possible for install I get this error:
No matter what I do now I cannot install the game at all. I spent all day on this. I cannot find the reg edit path to remove HKLM\Benchmark Sims or when placing the below path for install I get the same error. I am pretty much hosed. I do not know what else I can do. Nothing is working. -
@Sgt_Fresh-0 Finally the install started however it did not give me an option or a path other than the 4.35 set up folder. So I guess I will have the same issues.
Now on to my second nightmare. In all of my maneuvering to get the 4.36 installer to run I managed to removed the Alternative Installer now that too wont run. How do I re install it? Thanks in advance for any help. Sorry to be that slow guy. -
@Sgt_Fresh-0 Trying to help you out, but you have committed a multitude of BMS sins The first was installing BMS into weird directories. Just install it directly to the drive. c:,d:, whatever. NOT in program files, or Steam Second, read the BMS Manual carefully about installing. You need to run the setup again to uninstall. You can’t merely delete the folder or use control panel. To solve your conundrum check out this to locate the registry entry and give yourself a mulligan.
Good luck and clear skies -
@Quasi_Stellar Thank you I guess the reason I am having so much difficulty is that the instruction is correct but the user computers are different I found it but it was much different:

@Sgt_Fresh - here is what I would do with this mess, assuming you just want 4.36 installed.
- Save your Logbook and Phonebook ini. files in the Config folder from a version that worked.
- Run “Setup.exe” and Uninstall BMS Falcon 4.36 - this is the ONLY correct way to uninstall.
- CUT the current “Falcon BMS 4.36 Setup” folder, PASTE it to the ROOT of the drive you want BMS Falcon installed on, in your case it would seem to be “F:”, so you will have a “F:\Falcon BMS 4.36 Setup” folder.
- Using Regedit delete the Benchmark Sims folder and ALL sub-folders
- Run Setup.exe from the new “F:\Falcon BMS 4.36 Setup” folder, install Falcon BMS 4.36 to F:\Falcon BMS 4.36 (likely the default).
- Install Alternative Launcher 2.1.0 and set up your gear

@Icer thank you very much for the detailed instructions. I will give it a try later today. I will give you an update on my progress.
-
@Icer Ok after following your instructions the game is now re installed correctly and error free. I can also use the ACMi to record the missions.
I appreciated the time and effort given. Best regards -
