BMS audio output question

@SemlerPDX So I take it VoiceMeeter has to be opened at that point to mute/unmute stuff?

If you use VoiceMeeter for your audio, it should be the first thing you run after launching Windows, and it should remain running in the background at all times. It can be minimized of course.
Personally I keep it on the bottom half of my secondary desktop monitor to the left of my main. Since I run most programs in a windowed mode, I can move my mouse over to it and mouse-wheel-up or mouse-wheel-down while hovering over any of the volume bars without having to click on it to change focus from the game, or without having to alt-tab to it to adjust one of these volume sliders:
(edit: I suppose I should also note that I use Dual Monitor Tools (DMT) when desired to lock my mouse to the primary monitor or to allow it to travel to the secondary, with these “lock the mouse” and “unlock the mouse” actions on voice commands through VoiceAttack, of course)

@SemlerPDX Thanks for that but I guess what I was looking for was something that would play all audio to my TV speakers or my Logitech speakers but when BMS would run, it would only play BMS audio on my headphones and do so automatically. Can VoiceMeeter do something like that or do I have to switch each time?

No, for automation, you would need to get creative with something else.
That being said, if you ALWAYS want BMS audio on your headphones, just setting this as described by @TxMtb above, in the Windows Settings for Sound (while BMS is running) each app will be displayed - as far as I am aware, setting the specific audio output device for an application will be remembered between sessions, so you’d only have to do this once.
I’ve not been able to successfully get this to work, but I believe it is because I am already using my VoiceMeeter to control my sounds - you should try this before anything along the lines of automation, etc.:

@SemlerPDX have it set up like this:
Sound still comes from my TV.
-
@Atlas I was expecting that to possibly happen. As stated, I can’t get that to work either. When I googled this very common issue, the troubleshooting steps all seemed to be already verified given that you know both these devices work yet are only having issues with the app volume/preference setting for one application (BMS).
The only step I came across that seems worth trying would be this - basically setting the headphones (and TV Speakers) playback devices to exclusive mode and giving exclusive priority. Give it a try (for each device used, including that microphone) and let us know if it worked:

Sorry guys, been away for 2 days. I see you progress nicely.
What @SemlerPDX meant was this, but I’m also not 100% sure that will be the solution (like win output by app).
There is still the one workaround I have mentioned above, in the beginning of thread, that you “duplicate” output , so same (system/app) audio would come out TV and Headphones.
TV can be muted and vice versa.
This you can achieve by setting up audio-route , listening on recording wave device via Vb-mixer or just win alone.Give it a test, if still can’t handle, post a pic of your audio RECORDING devices… to see if this is feasible at all.

@white_fang @SemlerPDX thanks for your help guys! My system was already set up as you both indicated, restarted the PC just to be sure, but audio still plays out of the TV and does not transfer to headphones with BMS.
@white_fang if I understand your suggestion, I still have to manually mute/un-mute the TV, right? I was looking for an automatic solution which should exist in some way. When I use my Reverb G2 headset, I don’t do anything on the PC but the sound gets routed to the G2 headset automatically, then gets routed back to the TV when I turn off my G2. I was hoping for something like that for BMS.

@Atlas if you’re on Win10, I use a little app named “Eartrumpet” which lets you pick a sound source for each application running. I set BMS to always use one device (headphones) and if that isn’t found, it uses the default. It might work on Win11 as well, but unsure.
-
What I find annoying is that BMS does not use the new audio device if I change it. If I have BMS open and realize that the wrong audio device is selected, I can’t just change it, I have to close BMS and open it again.
But I guess that’s a really old code section that would take too much effort to change.

@Fearripper96 I’m on Win10, I’ll give that a try, thanks!

Try that same thing with a very new game/sim… you’ll find the same results in many cases. AFAIK most game/simulator programs search for and hook into hardware devices at startup, USB controllers being a bit more lax with disconnect/reconnect during operation, but audio devices are quite a different beast.
It really depends on the design of the program, ymmv, and not just an ‘old game vs new games’ thing

For some reason, I’m not able to install it from the MS Store and I can’t make sense of how to install it from chocolatey or github

If I was you, I wouldn’t try to force install or side load it bypassing the MS Store - one way you can be sure that an app is compatible and able to run in Win11 would be that it can install properly from the MS Store. This is because MS Store won’t allow you to install something that is incompatible as they curate these items for stability and security for the OS version(s) they are validated and tested for.
I would err on the side of caution and assume it may not be compatible in Win11 unless some documentation by the author states otherwise, and also supplies a known good method to get it working in Win11 (if any).

@Atlas That’s odd. Is it not letting you download? If it does, the app ends up in your bottom right taskbar (by default it has the logo as an icon, but it might also look like the system sound manager as well). If it’s not in there, I’m not sure what the problem could be.
-
@Fearripper96 It looks like this on the MS Store:
That gray rectangle on the right side stays like that, so it’s not an internet issue. Restarted my PC and same thing.

Aaaaanddd…
Once again, my PC decides it wants to make me look like a fool… downloading Eartrumpet now. I guess I don’t mind looking silly if I get what I’m looking for.
EDIT: AAAAAAAaaaaannnnnndddd… it works!!
Just downloaded it, started it up, and done. I guess whatever settings I had set previously was “correct” but Windows just wasn’t playing nice. Eartrumpet makes it work as intended. Very cool! I even tried playing something on YouTube which played over the TV speakers at the same time doing a flight in BMS which played in my headset! Suhhhh-weeeeeetttt!!!
Thanks @Fearripper96 !!!

@Atlas lol - now I’m not sure where I got the impression you were on Win11, but I definitely got my wires crossed. Glad you got it sorted out!
Cheers!

@Atlas Glad it worked out for you!
