Chengdu J-20
-
@Scorpion82 hello, because it is a AI model.
My little advice is to use Su-33 AFM for it.
Just copy and paste it, and rename it like J-20_afm like the other ones (J20_afm maybe I don’t have my computer with me…)
Cheers,
Radium

@Radium
The AI models use the OFM, which, if properly designed allow for a reasonable FM. Just copy pasting only will rubish aspects such as pylon definitions, expandables, gun loacation etc. You at least need to maintain the additional data section. -
@Scorpion82 yes I know this. I just give you a hint to improve your experience.
@TOPOLO maybe we can have a look about it ?
-
@Radium Why not, but what should I look for ?
The only comment I have is “Last time I tried it, it was bouncing while hitting the limiters”, is it possible to have something more specific ? -
There was clearly a problem with the AoA limitor declared in the OFM file
I fixed it, and now J-20 can reach high AoA without experiencing hard oscillations (I assume a maximum AoA of 25° is a realistic value for such a aerodynamic configuration) -
@TOPOLO
I’ll provide more specific feedback when I’m at the PC. when pulling fully back at the stick the aircraft pitch up, then bounced down, unloading and the process repeated if you kept the stick fully back. This occured somewhere between 300-500 kts at least. I encountered similiar issues during Typhoon development especially at supersonic speeds. I figured that the “artificial” AoA limiting (no lift from AoA X onwards) caused the aircraft to briefly exceed that AoA limit, if it was below the actual CAT AoA and due to the lack of lift it was pitching down rapidly for that reason. This was what I experienced with the J-20 at the subsonic speeds. As said, I need to test again to test the specifics. Will report back as soon as practicable. -
@Scorpion82 Normally, this should be fixed in U1
-
@JOKER_duke Can j-20 accelerate to M2.5?
-
@edrasom Clean, the BMS J-20 should be able to reach M2.5 @47,000ft
As AA missiles are in bays, they should not add drag, unfortunately, even if the weapons-in-bay feature is working for F-22, it does not for J-20 (and I’ve tried many things, but never find a way to solve this issue)
So, with 2 fox-2 and 2 fox-3, I’ve reached only M2.34Do not ask me if this is realistic or not, I’ve no idea of the true J-20 maximum Mach
-
@TOPOLO The DSI inlet would restrict the Mach MAX
-
i have no idea. it’ s a myth like MIG-25 in that time
-
Hello,
Some data that I got from China, which look rather good and realistic :
- J-20 maximum speed is about mach 2, but not more
- J-20 RCS is about 0.1 m² (Sukhoi Su-57 would be 0.5m², F-35 would be at best 0.0013m² and F-16 between 5m² and 10m²)
Best regards,
Radium

As AA missiles are in bays, they should not add drag, unfortunately, even if the weapons-in-bay feature is working for F-22, it does not for J-20 (and I’ve tried many things, but never find a way to solve this issue)The solution to this problem is simple, you need to untick the “visible” box for the weapon bays in the VCD (index number 423 for the J-20). Simply untick the visible boxes for the slots 3-8 and you get the weapon bays working as in the F-22. In the weapon loadout screen it’s evident by the “+/-” triangle symbols, rather than the circles and you’ll notice that the drag index will no longer count up, if you add weapons to the bays.
-
@Scorpion82 Thanks a lot, I’ll try that !
-
just my 2c,
if you untick visible for weapon bay items… once [Bomb Bays code] activiates, you won’t see weapon models.
then you have to tick visible again.

You mean, that you can’t see the weapons in the weapon bays, when they are opened?

AFAIK
when you tick visible, weapon models are always rendered whether bay open or close.
when untick visible, weapon models only show once released… -
@ccc1tw
if that’s the case and we want to have weapons in weapon bays that add no drag, then the only solution is to work with dedicated rack entries, in the bmsrack.dat and dedicated rack entries. I could fo this, if there is an interest for this. But would recommend that first the aircraft are named that are required to receive this. -
Hello,
For bomb bay stuff, code is incoming.
