Hud-projection mod

I think they’re quite ok in BMS now TBH.
For referrence: you mean like these from OF4.5?

yep, loved this color and transparency. Looked very realistic to me. (my experience is with swiss F/A-18 HUDs though)
-
The HUD fonts in that arcadish (regard.Hornet) aeroflyFS sim I bought also looks great and change with motion and light. That’s about the best avionic related thing in that sim lol.
(The sports planes are fun though…)
Maybe I find some shots, photobucket is on strike with my account…)Cheers

I’m no longer noticing much difference between stock BMS files (Update 3) and this. Was it implemented into a BMS update?

AFAIK … no changes.

HUD modded, based on FanOfBMS432’s HUD mod in the IT version.
Since the IT version has only basic and limited BMS reflections, I added those back in and tinted the entire 8005.dds into red/golden. Should be giving a slight colour difference watching the terrain from in the cockpit and outside. Also a LITTLE more contrast on the HUD upper glass edge, still too weak, but better.

Version 1, slightly more reflections
outside visual
same angle and alt inside
Version 2, slightly less reflections on the can., maybe even better font readability
2nd mod, here added to spare forum space:
Gapa gamma tool by Tomasz Porosinski:This is a small and harmless tool which adds customized colour/gamma settings which sit on top of your desktop/monitor colour/gamma.
With this tool’s presets which are partially based on IL-2 profiles and partially my own, you can have a different colour-wise immersion while in BMS (or any sim/software).Readmes in file, best run it, choose your setting, exit, later de-activate. If it runs while being in BMS, some keys, e.g. radar cursor arrows on keyboard, will only change colours.
So best test your favourite profile in dogfight mode, later just select your setting, exit gapa and fly with the latter profile.
Really easy, keys to activate on NumPad, BMS presets by me on NumPad 2,1 and 4. “2” is my choice for my monitor.
Korea terrain looks slightly less sh**ty with it lol. Also good match with above HUD colour and canopy reflection.
NumPad 6 reverts to default, clicking on the gapa symbol in the taskbar and choosing “Restore Defaults” has the very same effect.http://www.mediafire.com/?ij6z8ruzr295v1j

Nice … will try ASAP! Thank you!
-
PS: I mixxed the screens for version one and version 2 IIRC, best try yourselves, Version 2 in the download is the one with less reflections and possibly yet not surely verified even better font readability.
Version one has kickass canopy looks imho.
Really almost unspottable differences btw.All only stopgaps until FanOfBMS432 has finished his mod, of course. Which will surely be better.
Be advised, I checked many shots and F-16s as well as e.g. Super Hornets have very heavy cockpit canopy reflections. -

Was in heavy modding and IL-2 help stress this week, so if I fubared the upload or you see a bug, just let me know and I try to correct until Sunday morn.-

@ FanOfBMS: That one is too much colorized… !
IMO … curent one is perfect … stop touching it
How did you get your font color back to green?
-
@Cougar,
I assume you mean the HUD-fonts?
It works as follows: the basic setup in BMS (inside the core code, C++, is set to green in hex-value - FF0000 I believe). The design of the wireframe of the canopy (2B seen through eg LOD-editor) is populated with pictures so to speak, the DDS-files as you probably know.
These consist of colors to reflect images (of course). Now it comes. the OTW-engine, interacts with the colors used in the dds-files. In itself beautiful, but a real @#$ in the SS if you want to manipulate them. In the stock (original BMS-setup that is) version the end result is a slightly bleaked green color.
So, to ‘restore’ or re-green of whatever you call it, the font-color, I decided to refilter the doubled colorschemes again, to the point that a more transparant outside the window-look was generated, with a more deep green font color.
Please note that - of course - all the colors you see interact. So, if you’d fly towards the sun, you have fare more pale green then flying downwards to a dark background. The picture you refered to, does the last. Hence the more dark green you see.
As CT - stated in earlier posts, yes I’m still working on the canopy, but have major issues wih my design-computer. It’s crashed and I have a lot of repairing to do to get some of the hard work back I did on the BMS-topics. THis is also why there are no new releases on this topic. Until then, please enjoy the good efforts of CT to get a more vivid feel out of the canopy reflections (btw, CT: you could you a different filter for the last part (around the HUD itself) on the 8005 and release some more dark grey in the alpha channel to gain more transparancy. This would enhance your efforts significantly, you’ll see )

no i meant the mfd fonts. Id like to find a way to change all the MFD font colors to the DED yellow font as that is what most US jets are set up with……the default color in them is white, but most fighter wings set them to the DED yellow.

interesting got any link for source? (i suppose old habits die hard as they were green before updates?)

@Cougar,
Ah, I misread sorry. Perhaps you noticed in the pictures, but I changed the DED-fonts to yellow indeed. The color I used is: FF00FF9C (3dcockpitart files and replace the DED color for this one)
As far as the option of changing the MFD-colors: nope they can’t be changed, because their color is hard-coded, just as the HUD-basic color (All in FF0000 = green)
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Fan@hmm, just got a second thought here: I’d need to look at the cockpit art files to see if there are perhaps parts that are seperately colordefined, outside the code that is. Didn’t think there were any, but haven’t checked. Once my computer is repaired I’ll look into this as well

HMMMMMM I was just looking at that pickture and noticed they were green. Maybe it is an old picture, because I know BMS had them green at one time, but changed them white.
-
@Cougar,
Nope, they’re yellow not green. In the pic above they get brightened a bit by the ingame shading/lighting engine. The color code I used is color-copied from RL-DED pictures. Just finding the right Hex-code combi for in ingame use was a bit of a
hassle. Personally, I find them very niceBut of course, if you’d fancy another color, that’s easily adjustable.
-
Guys I think you are talking about different things here. I think he is asking for the green colour on the MFD text, the one next to the bezel that says HSD, HAD, FCR, SMS etc.
If this is the case then I believe you can change it in the configuration menu ( the one not ingame).
If its not the case then sorry for interrupting!

Hi FanOfBMS432, sorry, I stopped modding it (and have little to no clue about alpha channels, made all that in PSP6 as finetuned layers) and decided to wait for your version.
I also posted my gapa tool settings (2 of which I made for BMS) and trust me, with one of those you have a whole new feel of light and vision when inside or outside the pit. Unfortunately, BMS and fraps don’t work together as far as pics are concerned.Cheers my friend!

PS: Reg. my mini mod on page 16:
For the alternative 3993.dds, I think I forgot proper crediting:
If I am not mistaken, PL_Harpoon is also to be credited because he (IIRC) or another modder made this 3993.dds (alternative):IIRC the others were by FanOFBMS432.
Cheers

@CT,
yes m8, but this one does not work well imho. Here the alpha channel does not cut-off the symbology well. But one needs to check of course
… just my recollection, as my PC broke down.
