Question for the campaign experts
-
Hi all,
Doing a dead Mission in KTO Tiger Spirit, i have over-flied an airfield which have only according to the OOB 1 Mig29A aircraft and 2 Mig21 left.
But in 3D, the airfield was able to make more aircraft airborne to intercept my flight.
Looking with mission Commander the save before my mission, i have seen that there is the same number of aircraft available (1 and 2) but also some flights pending for their mission.
So my question is to know if the flights programmed on an airfield have aircraft booked before the start of the mission. And if this number of plane are subtracted of the total aircraft of a squadron for calculating the remaining ones.
Or if it’s a bug of the campaign engine in 3D ?Eric.

Hi
there may be more options for that
if you have it recorded on ACMI, that would help a lot -
@ericfa2a I think what you get are reports of potential active squadron planes…
As for troop positions, I don’t think those number should be taken as the ultimate truth…
-
@dado , Thanks for your reply.
Here a wetransfer link with the acmi and the original save from where i start the mission in campaign.
You can go directly and the end of the acmi (around 12:11) before i was shot down by a mig21 :). But for my defense i was wondering how so much planes ???
@MaxWaldorf Thanks you. I don’t want to be intrusive but what do you means by “I don’t think those number should be taken as the ultimate truth” ?
They are ok only for the UI de-aggregate mode for example ? 3D has a more “loose reality” versus these numbers ? -
Intel doesn’t mean accurate and on top there are reserve planes that I don’t hink are displayed.
I don’t master fully that part so this is a far as I’ll go…
I doubt this is a bug though…

I see it on my ACMI tapes as well, being intercepted by AC out of a base that the intel showed no AC on. I just put it down to poor intel, and let it add to the excitement!

@MaxWaldorf After some minor tests I think that the flights already planned will have planes for their mission even if the number of available plane decreased, there is no abort for these missions. But of course, the next planned missions depend of the number of planes available for the squadron.
I think we are at the edge of a very complex campaign engine. So @lew0984 , you are right. Let see this as a not absolute intel.
I fly falcon for years and only now I remark this fact.
There was a time, the "bubble " was a discussion !!!
Cheers all.

Hi
thanks for this report
Regardless of Intel and OOB I entered the Red side and that AB.
Regardless of the supplies and rating of the sqvadron, there are two MiG 21s with which the ATO generated eight flights in just a few hours.
I think it will need to be investigated better. -
I wouldn’t trust this into that level of details. I doubt it’s by design. The same kind of problem happens with weapons, the other way round.
The campaign engine was built to take account of supply and rosters. It is certainly a great aspect to play with, especially when you’re in the strategist’s or tactician’s skin, but I currently consider it is not really possible because the level of trust in the available data is not sufficient to play that game.
This is one of the two big problems the engine, in my opinion, currently has, the other one being the major gap between 2D and 3D outcomes. If you really want to play tactically, you’ll let some missions happen in 2D because the chances are better, others in 3D. Let me believe that’s not “on purpose” or “Intel is not perfect” kind of interpretation.
People have given AI intentions for years, that actually happened to be bugs (SAM ambush behaviors…). Placebo have their limits.
For the 2D/3D matter, it is off topic and way too complicated. For the supply and roster in general, the UI revamp could be the opportunity, with way more (and approximated by design) informations available on what’s happening with which aircraft and what magazines really have.
