Does `g_fRadioBalance` still work?
-
@hellsguard I’m positive the problem is spatial audio processing. If you are using Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, DTS Sound Unbound, any of the provided software bundled with your headset, or a DAC that converts a 7.1/5.1/Surround signal for your headset, you won’t get BMS or IVC Separation. I’ve tested it myself with Sonic, Atmos, my Steel series DAC, and a Corsair USB Surround processor. Anything other than stereo breaks AI RadioBalance and IVC Offset.

@GhastlyTT I have this legion h500 surround sound 7.1 it doesnt come with a software, its plugged in via usb…
is there anyway to have it so that i can tell bms that my headphone is set to stereo? -
@hellsguard I’m not familiar with that headset but an image from google search shows the inline USB DAC for 7.1 Surround Processing. No idea if it’s always on or if you can switch it to stereo. Push some buttons lol
-
@GhastlyTT yea theres a button to turn it on and i never touched it all the buttons is untounched… Am i shit out of luck?
-
@hellsguard I don’t honestly know. Check a few things: Push the mode button on that DAC and make sure it doesn’t say 7.1/5.1 or anything hinting at surround. Then in the windows sound settings for your headset make sure format is set to 2 channels and audio enhancements/spatial audio are both off.
Launch BMS, go to ramp, and send an ATC request. Good luck.

@RISCfuture No idea why everyone’s using a negative value but you could try this in your Falcon BMS User.cfg
set g_fRadioBalance 90.0 // Split UHF/VHF channels to different left and right ear phones. For full separation use 100.0//
-
@GhastlyTT Tried the last 2 part already no luck, whats DAC? where is that under? ive check anything that could relate to stereo/7.1 in the sounds control panel but nothing that lets me change it to stereo appreciate the help, i think im just shit out of luck with my usb headphones.

I think 0.0 is evenly balanced… negative numbers = UHF to the left, VHF to the right; positive numbers = VHF left, UHF right.
I have no idea which way is “correct” or if this is even a thing in the real jet… ceretainly seems like it would be very helpful.
-
@airtex2019 Thanks I must experiment with those settings.
-
@hellsguard the USB adapter is the DAC.I don’t think you’ll have any luck with that headset if windows can’t switch the device to 2 channels. Maybe you can plug the jack end directly into a computer to remove the spatial processing of that USB adapter? Sorry I can’t help more.
-
@GhastlyTT If only the cable wasnt 1ft long lol. Well this sucks. Should i report this to the bugs section in the forum? maybe devs can add support for other people with similar issues as mine?
-
@hellsguard I think it’d be a worthwhile bug report for the devs. With the introduction of VR to BMS and the fact that most HMDs and headphones these days force some kind of spatial sound processing on the user, there’s going to be many people struggling to get the balance and offset features working correctly.

beware if audio switched to mono… this won’t work…
-
-
@MaxWaldorf hey Max, thanks for chiming in. I don’t think anyone is mistakenly putting their headsets in mono. You’re going to see this problem brought up more often as more devices, VR almost exclusively, use spatial processing to produce binaural audio from stereo headsets. For example, hellsguard’s headset cannot be switched to stereo and the Reverb G2 VR headset forces on Windows Sonic. Falconers with these 2 and similar devices will not be able to use radiobalance and ivc offset if BMS doesn’t support a surround output.
Anyways, I’m just here enjoying what you all keep alive. I’m not a coder and I won’t pretend to know what kind of effort it’d take to add surround support, so please consider adding a note to the manuals that states any type of surround processing is unsupported and those features will not work with anything other than a stereo headset? Thanks!

@GhastlyTT I have an artic 7 headset with dual sound card… radio balance works well… (just not with IVC because second card is mono only)
-
@MaxWaldorf that was a good headset. Unfortunately, steel series’ new headsets moved away from the hardware chatmix that you have to a software based solution. And guess what?! It forces on spatial sound processing and breaks BMS’s radio balance features. Don’t upgrade! lol
-
@Kavelenko Because we want UHF on the left, not the right.
-
@RISCfuture
It is not enough to set this in Falcon BMS User.cfg. In IVC Client.ini the following line must be present as well:
offset = 2
This sets UHF to left channel. -
@Wolfman I’m referring to AI comms.
-
@RISCfuture Ah, sorry. Must have missed this.
