Tacview – Understand what happened during your last flight! (alternative ACMI viewer)

unlike many of us, I also decided to use TACVIEW to prepare my mission: yes! I found this tool very interesting to plan a mission at very low altitude … indeed, thanks to the relief of 3D world in Tacview, we can easily visualize the egress and ingress corridors in adding the flight plan ( *.ini)
the only things missing are :- to directly download or read the weather forecast (via FMAP files)
- activate ou desactivate the preplanned threatpoint / lines / etc …
- to be able to modify or add waypoints
with this kind of enhancements, it would be an excellent and complete tool ! although it is already an excellent tool …

any chance yall can fix the bug in ITO (israel theater) were syria shows up blue on tacview but in game their yellow?
theres a quick workaround fix by a fellow in discord that posted it,
-
Rename the file to a zip file (Ie. Delete the .acmi part) extract it, open acmi.txt, search for “Coalition=Syria” and replace with “Coalition=Syria,Color=Orange”
-
Zip and add .acmi to file
-
Basically you should end up with a <something>.zip.acmi file containing an acmi.txt file
If this helps with anything atleast…
there was also another guy who posted another workaround but i lack the knowledge in languages or whatever the proper term for it is, ill just post it aswell
- Those are yellow jets, there is some issue in the current native Tacview export, not sure what the cause is.
In the meantime, you could run this via a linux shell (like WLS) to fix up the colors for Syrian units:
#!/bin/bash
unzip -p recolor.zip.acmi | sed ‘s/Coalition=Syria/Coalition=Syria,Color=Orange/’ | zip > recolored.zip.acmi -

@hellsguard Hi, was Syria orange in the “old” VHS files but now they are blue in the new ACMI files?
-
@BuzyBee No idea this is my first time using tacview on syria, im fairly new to bms overall.
-
@BuzyBee Yes, Syria was either yellow or orange by default in the old VHS files. It definitely wasn’t blue.
-
@johku @hellsguard Thanks for the information. I can confirm that this is something that BMS needs to fix on its end. Could you please make a bug report in their bug reports forum? Or share with me an ACMI file where Syria is blue and I will make the report.
In the meantime, the first workaround that hellsguard posted is what I would have suggested myself. -
I am unable to see Panama on a map.

I’m experiencing a crash in Tacview with ACMI’s generated by 4.37. Posted on Steam, but crossposting here just in case:
Playing ACMI files generated by Falcon BMS 4.37 crashes Tacview, resulting in fatal error.
STR: open an ACMI file, attempt to scroll or play it, eventually some event is encountered (SAM missile?) which crashes the video driver, results in fatal error.
At the same time the AMD Adrenalin crashes as well (22.11.2 latest).
“The application has encountered a critical error.
Exception: 0xC0000005
Please email the log file saved as…”
Then Tacview closes.I can post the dump and a small ACMI for testing.

Hi,
Yes please do share the dump.

@BuzyBee just sent an email to support, but here’s a dump+test acmi (happens in any) https://www.mediafire.com/file/ibt651dqv21rq68/tac_crash_falcon.rar/file

Can anyone provide the steps for getting maps into TACVIEW?
-
Forgive the noob question, but I still cannot get the telemetry to work. These are my steps…
- Run TacView
-Open the F4 Telemetry & select a location for the ACMI file - Select [Start Recording]
- Start Falcon and enter the cockpit
- Switch AVTR to ON.
And on the receiving PC…
- Select the Telemetry option
- Type in the IP Address
- Select [Connect]
And it never connects! Am I missing any steps?
Thanks in advance for any tips.
Cheers,
Jolly - Run TacView

JollyHi,
Currently you have to revert to the old VHS file format in order to use real-time telemetry.
In the file:
Falcon BMS 4.36\User\Config\Falcon BMS User.cfg
Add the line:
set g_bTacviewAcmi 0
Also make sure you have pressed F to start recording - check the User\Acmi folder to see if an FLT file has appeared.
- Run TacView

Attention all flight simulation enthusiasts! The long-awaited update for Tacview has finally arrived! The latest version, Tacview 1.9.0, includes a range of exciting new features and improvements to enhance your flight analysis experience.
With added support for Falcon 4 real-time telemetry and temporary files, as well as DCS: South Atlantic map, Mirage F-1CE, and MB-339 aircraft, you can take your flight simulations to new heights. Plus, the real-time telemetry lag option ensures smooth recordings even for challenging conditions.
The addition of MSAA x4 anti-aliasing and Adaptive v-sync support to the 2D and 3D views, along with the option to switch between true and magnetic north, provides a more accurate and visually stunning experience. Improved HUD speed and altitude display, crisp terrain textures, and better mouse object selection, also add to the already impressive list of improvements.

@BuzyBee I note in your changelog;
“IMPROVED Korea database and terrain for BMS 4.36
IMPROVED Israel database and terrain for BMS 4.36”We’re on 4.37 now - I don’t know if the database has changed, but maybe it’s worth looking into updating?
-
@obsidianuk Thanks for pointing this out. I will at least update Korea for 4.37.1 in the next beta.
-
@BuzyBee I’ve running the latest betas, is this a later version than the available beta?
Can I still continue to run the betas and still be up to date?
-
@CriticalMass Tacview 1.9.0 is the next version after 1.9.0 beta 11. Run Tacview 1.9.0 to be fully up to date.
-
@BuzyBee
I there a way to forbid the use of Real Time Telemetry with Tacview and BMS, particularly for TvT games ?The question could be “irrelevant” as there might be already other tools available to take advantage of the recording Acmi files (.flt). In that case the question will be more generic and not specific to Tacview as 3rd party tool (F4AWACS, OSC Suite, …).
