It seems MiG-29 allegedly unclassified manual is floating on the web .

@FickleFossa Lack of a good radar and an MFD too
-
@hiuuz Letās be honest, F-16A has na MFDs too, but itās still a heck of fun plane to fly.
-
The Romanian airforce had plans for an upgrade to 2 or 3 MFDās done by Israel (Sniper update if Iām not mistaken) and the K/M models have huge MFDās. So just make different blocks, just like the F-16
@hiuuz Oh but thatās more of a challenge than something I dislike
-
@Xeno Right, I mean compated to a block 50/52.
From a technical standpoint it would have been great if the soviets donāt collapse and they could modernize their jets as the Americans.
Since the 90ās the gap is so big between them itās more of an arcade thing to fly an F-16 than a Mig-29. Still fun, but flying a 29 against Amraams is a hell -
@FickleFossa Iām from Hungary so the 29 has half of my ļø, but facts are facts. The collapse of the SU, the lack of funds had great drawbacks on the Redās avionics since the 80ās.
-
Agreed, plus their reliance on ground based controllers and thus limited flexibility didnāt really push for changes.
On the other hand, we simulate the DPRK having the guts to attack the ROK backed by 5th generation fighters with MiG-29Aās and older jets. I sometimes join them by adding a MiG-29M squadron. Definately challenging, canāt remember if I even won a campaign doing that.

Flight model of BMS MiG-29A (iz9.12) has been computed using this manual
It is not classified at all -
@TOPOLO
Thanks for the info. So would that mean least flying part (ie ramp start procedure, typical faults, limits etcā¦) can be done close to the F-16 level?

Now if just one country declassified -34 to p*ss off russkiesā¦I think, yes it is possible.
Has BMS team āhuman resourcesā for that? No.
Has anybody āballsā to do it? Itās up to the community. -
Periscope Films still have Mig 29 manual Mig 21 also

Some guy on /r WarThunder posted allegedly declassified MiG-29G (german) manual.
Does it mean thereās a chance for high fidelity redfor fighter in BMS somewhere in the future?
If so Iād definitely fly the hell out of it.It is available since +10 years.
But it is far, far, far less detailed in info compared to any US plane.
Especially the performances curves. -

They always lacked behind in electronics.
I can give you some examples the impact on the Russian weapons development when the COCOM list was eased then finally was ceasedā¦ -
I know the 29 very well, mainly the model A. It passed through my hands for a couple of years. So count on me if you need any support.

@molnibalage Have I said they were equal?

Still fun, but flying a 29 against Amraams is a hellEven if the Soviet Union had not collapsed, that technological gap already existed. The same political system of centralized economy and total control at the national level in all spheres by a political party ruins all kinds of innovation or development that were framed in the doctrines of the Soviet party.
I have never touched a western fighter, but many of Soviet construction and I can affirm that only in avionics without falling into engines, performance, autonomy, metal alloys, there was already a huge gap.
One of these gaps can be seen in the same 29, have you wondered why those engines release so much smoke? and Western aircraft of the same generation have little or no smoke.

The first Mig-29m 9.15 was basically a new plane with fly by wire, a new airframe, totally different avonics but was canceled at the collapse of the USSR. The later M had even better avonics but were more or less Mig-29K but land base, and thus very heavy and only marginally more powerful engines. 9.15 would have been the best growth for the Fulcrum.

@VIPER-0 True. In 1990 two F-16 came to Hungary. Compared the cockpit to our Mig-23s it looked like an X-Wing, our pilots was shocked. Yes, the technical gap was always there, but even in those circumstances they could achive some interesting development. Eg. the radar of the Mig-31. But in the Desert Storm it was obvious that they are at least 10 years beyond the americans. Technologically, in training, tacticsā¦

I remember that I was secretly reading Western documentation, mainly that which was only available to flight personnel and I remember seeing the characteristics of the F-4 phantom and seeing that circular screen called RWR and then sitting in the cockpit of a 21 or 23 that have the SPO-10 system and see that small instrument whose face is the size of a wristwatch where it only has 4 small bulbs that indicates which quadrant is illuminating a threat and I thought, with this the Soviets thought one day to face an airplane western ? if this is not even what band or even if the radar is friend or foe.
Later I got on the 29 and I saw that beautiful SP0-15 a little more worked but still with a lot of lack when it comes to providing information, only the front semi-sphere is covered and primary and secondary threat, some other lamp of the band from the radar in the lower part that the same lamp could indicate several states at the same time, the pilot was the one who had to discern the situation he was in and what it could be.
Times have changed and almost all of us now have access to all this information at home, but for me at that time, 2008 was life itself, I lived every moment as if it were the last.
