@SOBO-87 thanks all,
Yes reflectors now and for a little while. Wallet is Winchester at the moment…1920x1080 at the moment, have not set up the 3 monitor surround yet a basic hotas maping trying to keep it simple for the moment till I get more comfortable with it all

have not used the hat reflectors thing in many years but it does sound like you are getting light contamination in the camera. The way to check it is expand the TIR window so you can see the camera grid. If there are (red?) spots showing on the camera display (from memory, can’t look at it) on the screen its glare. This will totally screw up your head movement… No open windows or bright lights behind you… just a guess, as it happens with the Track-Clip that way… Head flies all over the place.

It blew up and i had to reload it today after turning on surround every time going into the 3d it would just crash i uninstalled and reinstalled
and i seemed to be getting this
Next what is that telling me
[00:00:00.000] 8336 Couldn’t open Dragon rules file, loading default rules instead
[00:00:00.000] 8336 Dragon’s rules are in old file formatand it looks like the user config isn’t being read maybe but being a FNG i don’t know alot lastly,
the mouse thing again… I have watched numerous videos from max and others and the mouse can move around the cockpit with a degree of freedom within the FOV from one spot they can hit 1/2 a dozed switches
OK Here I have a cross hair in the dead center of the center screen, it is always dead center and never leaves dead center to select a switch, knob or whatever I have to move the panel with the switch or knob under the cross hair to select the switch or knob 2 switchs next to each other i have to drap the panel from one to the other
but the cross hair is like always the dead center of my screen. can someone tell what i did wrong here? -

Beautiful computer setup! If you don’t mind a bit of constructive criticism, the mirrored array in my opinion is a waste of one of those gen4 NVMe SSD’s and a full TB of very high speed storage. There are many ways to backup and restore files and even the WinOS that make use of a RAID-1 (2-disk) setup on a performance gaming PC a bit unfavorable. Considering the tradeoffs, you could gain a full TB of space, and reduce average total write throughput of these two drives in day-to-day use.
For performance, a RAID-0 setup would be vastly superior and also expose the full size of both disks for use. There is less chance than you’d think for losing the entire array by way of a single disk loss given the non-enterprise applications of a home computer on top of the lack of moving parts which play a factor in HDD RAID setups. I have run a RAID-0 2-disk SSD setup for over 5 years, until my current system where I now leave them both as separate drives (one OS, one for games). The average daily write throughput on the games drive is near nothing compared to the OS drive. That would matter if I planned to use each drive to the end if it’s life, though they’ll likely be “slow old tech” by 2026 and get replaced with faster, cheaper, higher capacity cousins long before their natural death.
One thing worth considering is how you wish to backup your WinOS and/or files, and to not rely on a RAID-1 (2-disk) setup to be recoverable in the event of a single disk failure. I’ve been there, it sucks - and all the “it should work, that’s what it’s for!” screaming doesn’t amount to much when a fresh drive rebuilt just fails. YMMV, just a cautionary tale.
Steer clear of OneDrive, and read up on gaming PC + OneDrive for details on that subject, it can be very hit and miss: not worth it given other cloud storage options. Personally, I use DropBox which has a 2TB plan at just over $100 (USD) annually. I also bought a 2TB 7200 RPM HDD to create system images of my (1TB) OS drive. By keeping the OS drive size low, and installing high disk size software like games on the other drive(s), the OS drive can be more easily backed up in-whole such as using disk images.
Just some food for thought - whatever you run will be fine and that system could eat other systems for breakfast. Congrats and see you at Angels 20!

@airtex2019 dude you rock !
-
@SemlerPDX Thanks,
the raid is not for performance it is for security it keeps the banking, investments Will and all that critical stuff they are also back up to a separate HDD and sometime in the near future a nas. I run Acronis to manage that both making an image and then standard back ups i don;t use the “cloud” don’t use one drive nope never I like owning my data… this pc is a toy mostly and an old guy still dipping his toes in, I play this a couple strategy games, and chess.toying with OC it but really so far don;t need to…

Hey Jim first of all welcome to the madhouse & good to have you along for the ride!
I’ll throw in my 2¢ if I may:
o avoid TARGET for the HOTAS, just juse the alternative launcher (AL) to assign the HOTAS functions. AL is rather nice (I only transitioned to it recently after decades of carefully hand-crafting my keyfiles ) and converting my setup over to AL took maybe half an hour or so.
Of course you can write your own keyfile but it’s not really necessary as there are many good defaults available for the warthog hotas system.
o for headtracking, an LED clip is a must in my opinion, I recommend the DelanClip (great build quality, awesome price and several options available).
For the software, take a look at opentrack (you’ll be able to save good money because opentrack is free, open-source software).o don’t be afraid to join a squadron of like-minded folks, it’s generally the best way to learn if someone is guiding you along during the BMS adventure, and you’ll likely avoid hours of banging your head against the wall when someone else might be able to help out.
All the best & enjoy the ride!
Uwe

19" Fujitsu-Siemens (1280x1024) used for DE
How old is this bloody thing, …somewhat like you?
-
Indeed it is, and guess what: I have a spare in the cellar as a replacement
No reason in chucking out good hardware if it still does the job, right? I have to say I have been tempted by the nice setups I saw in Buchenau, esp. those nice 22" 16:9 touchscreens running helios… but no, the treehugger in me will stick with the old stuff until it dies a natural death
Cheers, Uwe

1st to everyone, who has been helping, you folks ROCK you have been super helpful!
The manuals are about the size of war and peace, I won’t say it is going easy but it is going…
anyway read and you tubbed a ton and tinkered with the FOV i am 5842x1080 kinda came up with this does this look close to correct? since i wouldn’t know right if i saw it at this point.Got trackIR working better (got active led’s coming, hat tip… ) still needs to be slowed down a bit sometime it gets spinning like your in a fishbowl , you could get motion sickness… The mouse thing is a lot better too, Not perfect but it is not making me want to shoot it with my 12ga anymore
Hey got the darn thing ramp started got in the Air (havn’t sorted the comms so the controller was a bit ruffled) and flew around a bit didn’t know where the H*ll I was or where I was going , but hey I didn;t lawn dart. and the controls worked mostly as expected. I could climb, decend, bank, speed up slow down all the normal basic stuff. and keep it level. anyway i call that progress…
Now i just need to figure out the avionics etc displays etc to know where i am going VEGagain My thanks to everyone… jim
I am sure I will be pestering you more soon

1st:
If that 3 screen view looks reasonable close… I can/will note the settings with the View for the next Noob trying to do this, as pix worth a 1000 words… and if they search and read like me they might find it and save some pain. I think it looks close from what I see on you tube, but not a lot of 3 screen vids on you tube to compare too that i have seen so far.More dumb questions… i know you use the mouse to start up on the ground, in flight do you use a mouse/trackball to select buttons? or is it all on the switches… to steer laser/tv pointers the TCS coolie hat?
Am I safe to assume this is like a WIP growing process getting things sorted as you go?
Any words of wisdom or common mistakes to avoid? Seems i have 1 to few hands…
lastly is anyone having it was the device sorting flips from the Stick 1st throttle 2nd to the reverse throttle 1st and stick 2nd i keep having to redo the sorting over and over.
thanks again

@Jim_H
Your set-up is looking really cool!I’m new-ish too (around 300h hours) so take what I say with a pinch of salt.
For the device sorting problem, check the Technical Manual page 158. If you don’t understand the solutions then ask again and we will try to help with that.
As for the controls when flying, you are right, you will fine-tune as you fly more.
The use of the mouse, normally you use it for the MFDs and less often-used switches, but you probably will add some more controls to your HOTAS, as real pilots can reach for switches without looking at them, but we can’t.
As for the ICP, I ended up using the numpad most of the times. Once you learn the equivalence for me it’s faster.What I did for my controls was assign the “real” F-16 controls as similar as possible (if they did it like that it surely was for a reason) and then started to change and add more things either on free buttons or with the shift option. For instance I’ve assigned FOV options on my throttle so I can easily “zoom” in and out. Also some autopilot using the shift-key…
In the docs folder you will find examples for the most common HOTAS.
There’s also a forum sub-thread for devices, so you can ask there more specific questions about yours.I hope I helped you even if just a little.

@Jim_H
For device 1<->2 "sorting. (It is a bit intermediate/advanced). - just follow my lead- There is a file in (BMS)/User/Config -> “devicesorting.txt”
- Start BMS , setup -> advanced , … preset your stick/ throttle, axis
- OK/Save, Exit. (don’t restart BMS)
- Go to above mentioned dir (folder) , find that file devicesorting.txt - you can open (with notepad) and see how devices are sorted by Win/Bms ,
-example (I have only this two):
{0400044F-0000-0000-0000-504944564944} "HOTAS Cougar Joystick" {076306A3-0000-0000-0000-504944564944} "Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals"
If you’re happy with it … just leave it (close)
If not happy, eg… want some your specific order, stick 1st, throttle 2nd, … then just change the order. (move whole lines on top, subsequent)
Next, you might have to do config again… but that’s the last time. - from now on BMS will respect that order (if) you did in the file
Happy flying!!
(you could theoretically… edit/ preset that file first - and skip 2 configurations… but file will exist only if BMS already ran at least once - IF SO… then edit file 1st and then start BMS … save some time)
-
@white_fang yes I set up following Max’s video. Must have re sorted then 10x if once something changes it back. Only way I get it to stick is to pull the throttle out of the usb port, the switch order in the file and save. Then it stays for awhile until something switches them again. Just asking if anyone exp this
-
@Jim_H using the launcher for assigning controls would avoid all this?

Just asking if anyone exp this
The New Launcher (aka Alt Launcher) will overwrite your DeviceSorting.txt. (It is the only software on your computer that will do so… BMS itself will append new lines for new devices that it discovers, but it will never remove or reorder the earlier lines.)
The key thing is to choose one path and stick to it … either (A) use the New Launcher to define your axes and buttons, and stick with it, always.
Or (B) do it the old-school way, and never run the New Launcher… (and if you ever do, be sure to immediately select the “don’t apply overrides” checkbox).
