Solved CTD in Falcon BMS 4.37.2. I don't know what else to try
-
Between fifteen and twenty minutes after the start of the flight the screen freezes and after a while it goes to the desktop. I fly a simple test mission created by my tactical engagement, in theater just my F16.
I use Falcon BMS 4.37.2 (X64) Build 521. Since I installed it for the first time I have the error. I uninstalled and reinstalled clean. Deleting all registry entries. I have launched executable as administrator. I have created an exception in windows defender to the simulator folder and to the executables.
Updated Asus “Armoury Crate” (MB) since in a crash and when doing alt+tab I saw that there was a blank window of the ArmourySwAgent.
Also updated the drivers for the Asus motherboard.
But after all this the problem remains. My computer is:
AMD Ryzen 7 3700x
ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING
64Gb DDR4
Geforce RTX 3080I have the results of a memory dump file:

I have also searched this forum for errors similar to mine and have put into practice their solutions such as the one that exposes “4.37 CTD after several minutes” of this forum, but nothing
I love the simulator, was really surprised by how realistic it feels. Hope you know the solution to the error.
Thank you -
I have a good news!!! The problem has been fixed.
@Icer and @white_fang, thank you, I have also followed your recommendations in case it was the partial or total cause of the problem.
I flew in two sessions, one for an hour and a half and the other for two hours. Without CTD!!. I am very happy about this.
I’m going to explain what I did in case it might help someone in the future, although I can’t be 100% sure it was just one thing in particular.
Before solving the problem, I went into BIOS and lowered the ram speed from 3600 to 3200 as you advised. Later I realized that the RAM voltage data was in yellow (1.350v), I lowered it to the standard value that indicated 1.2v and it was no longer marked in yellow.
Then I should have tried the simulator but I followed directly with your instructions.
I updated MSI Afterburner, I reversed any undervolting and I didn’t apply any overclock to the graphics card, at the moment I will apply what you tell me.
I uninstalled drivers cleanly. Also using the uninstall programs that you have told me about. In short, thanks to you I can fly in Falcon.
I also fly DCS. But despite being able to afford it for my pc, Falcon BMS continues to attract me perhaps even more than DCS and I don’t know why.Sorry my poor english and thank you all for helping me solve the problem with such devotion.

Some things you can try (while you wait for a response) along the lines of system stability and safety would be running the Microsoft System File Checker (SFC) with DISM steps, and also the Microsoft Safety Scanner. One of the first steps is to ensure Windows is fully updated, start there if you haven’t already.
When Windows is not working correctly, you will want to scan the file system - like verifying the integrity of a Steam game install, but for the entire operating system. It usually takes around 30 minutes to run, or longer depending on the speed of the disk.
“If some Windows functions aren’t working or Windows crashes, use the System File Checker to scan Windows and restore your files. Though the steps below might look complicated at first glance, just follow them in order, step-by-step…”
To verify the safety and security of your Windows installation, use the Microsoft Safety Scanner:

@Vanthergot hi, please provide a DMP file for us. If it was not generated try the instructions in this thread item 1:
-
First of all thank you very much for the help.
SemplerPDX I will try what you tell me, following the steps that the links comment.
Seifer, I followed the guide in your link, entering the registry and configuring it as indicated. When I had another CTD, windows generated a DMP file for me. So I have the file, but it takes up several gigs of disk space. I don’t know how to send you the file.
-
@Vanthergot it will zip up to be 10x smaller… still big but manageable
-
@airtex2019, that’s right, when I read the link again I saw it, sorry, I didn’t pay much attention to that part when I read it for the first time. Thanks for the clarification. I already have the file, now it is approximately 400 mb, but… How can I upload it to your website?
-
@Vanthergot please upload it to a googledrive or any other free cloud service where we can download it from.
-
@Seifer, I put a link to the file:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1CEYMu7oct9WYe5pOqZ5n2NuMtQMXKVnX?usp=sharing
@SemlerPDX, I already did the tests that you recommended, it did not find any problem during the processes. And the error persists. Always every 12 minutes on average the image freezes and goes to the desktop, but there are times when it takes a little more or a little less to manifest itself as a failure.

Temperatures OK? Would probably cause systemwide bluescreen or blackscreen, not a software (BMS) crash… but you never know
-
@Vanthergot thanks, I took a quick look. What is happening there is a wrong material handler (253 and there are only 109 available)in renderer code. This could be a wrong data configuration (unlikely, since no one else had this), a bad install or a HW fault.
I have done a quick sanity check here, my install has 109 configurations as well, so this does not look like a bad install issue.
Now, this question is really important, please answer carefully: do you have any kind of overclock on your PC? Including aggressive memory XMP?
-
In response to your two suggestions, which I now see are very logical. Yeah. I went into the bios and lowered the micro voltages to a stable range. But that was a long time ago, when you bought the Computer. This is less relevant though.
But what could be related to the failure is that I installed MSIafterburner and undervolt the graphics card. It was outdated a long time ago and I haven’t updated the software again or checked the efficiency of the graphics card.
The graphics drivers are updated to the latest version.
I’m starting to see what could be the error!
Now I have to go to work. But when I get home I’ll do checks
-
I have already tested the temperatures. And I would say that it is not due to overclock or at least apparently. The temperature at the time of CTD is 54º for the microprocessor, and 68º for the GPU. During the flight at no time were the fans activated. On the other hand, in DCS that I have no problems, the fans are activated but because it reaches 82º. This graph works at high temperature.
So unless it is what you say about the XMP RAM memory. I have installed cpuz and it gives me this result in RAM, according to the image I have XMP activated? I don’t know much about RAMInside the same folder where the CPUZ image is, I have also left other images of the nvidia control panel, with the graphics settings, in case it could be of help. I originally set it to get max fps on DCS. I put the link
-
@Vanthergot any further recurrence? maybe try a “clean install” of the NVidia drivers, to undo any afterburner undervolting…
while I don’t think the following is your problem – it is worth mentioning – there have been at least 2 stability problems reported here, from people running fast DDR4-3600 ram on older cpu/mobo systems. (one of those people was me
normally this kind of problem prevents boot/post, or results in blackscreen/reboots… not an application crash. but I suppose anything’s possible.
even without XMP enabled, the stock “SPD” speed of your 3600 MHz RAM is considered above the line, for that generation AM4 cpu and chipset
I recommend manually turning it down, in the BIOS, to 3200MHz.
-
Ok, slow down the Ram as you suggest. And I will perform a clean installation of the Nvidia drivers
-

Ok, slow down the Ram as you suggest. And I will perform a clean installation of the Nvidia drivers
A suggestion is to use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to remove ALL remnants of your current video drivers and do a clean reinstall using NVCleanstall, just installing the video drivers and nothing else. No GeForce Experience, No telemetry, No PhysX, No sound drivers (unless you need them)… That will pretty much eliminate the drivers as an issue, but given all the changes you have made in an attempt to stave off upgrading it may not be the issue…

THIS. I am also doing that (undervolt) and you want to very careful.
Not any application (game) will work well.
So, I have 2-3 voltage (and W) profiles… if it crashes more then once, twice, then go to different profile, with less undervolt.Try for test. we’ll see.
(For overclock, overvolt cpu… I’m +1.5Ghz over stock, and ~+0.2-0.5V overvolt in cpu and … issss… smoooth )
As, cpu drains with power management an all is cool. So, in essence, you want stable overclock for cpu and stable undervolt for gpu.
Cheers

That’s all ok, (inside limits). , 1.2V without XMP profile, 1.350V with XMP profile … trade juice for speed - and bit more heat on ram sticks
Btw, you can now SLOWLY try to return to XMP proflle, RAM back to 3600, and ram voltage 1.350v -
actually … 0.4 GHz in ram is not big loss but… 99% people don’t have it so they are just jealous if you have it on
So, more bang for buck, IF it’s not a problem.I’m telling you, 99% , gpu undervolt was a culprit … it makes chain reaction of instability.
…yes there’ been some problems with XMP memory profiles in 1-2 cases … but is not a golden rule!! - this stuff was designed to work … just not everywhere is “implemented” properly -
-
Ok @white_fang but I couldn’t disable XMP, in BIOS I didn’t find the option. So I’m assuming it’s still on.
XMP in BIOS is with some other name?
