LST (Laser Search Tracker) not detecting AI laser
-
Please,
can anybody tell me if the LST (Laser Search Tracker) is supposed to work with AI flight members - or is it limited to human co-buddies only?
For example, if I tell my AI wingman to “attack my target” with GBU-12, and switching my TGP to LST, I have no chance to track his laser with my LST system. Even if he scores a perfect hit on the target.
Flying with (or as) a human wingman, it works flawlessly.I always take care of the correct laser code (MY code) and the correct LST code (WINGMAN’s code).
I checked chapter 2.11.7.4 of the “dash 34”, but I cannot find the right clue. -
AFAIK AI do not emit laser even if they are guiding laser-guided weapons.

@Frederf
I suspected something like this.
Makes sense, thanks! -
When I implemented Buddy Lasing back in the days I wanted at some point to go on with the idea and implement the same for AI. I was thinking of at least adding that to a player’s Wingman/flight members so that he could ask them to fly a lasing pattern and have them lase a target while he can drop munitions and get out. For sure it can be done, I just never got to do it, maybe someday, or hopefully someone else will implement that.

@I-Hawk
Oh yeah, now that would be cool.
Please, DEVs - don’t push this idea too far aside -

Great idea. I always wanted to see at least AI`s ability to orbit at ordered point.

As a first step, we already now have AI JTAC lasing targets, see BMS-Comms-Nav-Book.pdf page 53.
Maybe another 3-4 weeks … -
@I-Hawk - all good idea…need to add the laser code for each AI to the Briefing for the mission, or some way to coordinate codes between AI and human pilots. Just using a canned canned code amongst all jets/participants wouldn’t be very “realistic”.
Still very glad to see buddy lasing available for multi-player live pilots! Now we need a far better LMAV model…

you can modify that on the Loadout page for each jet in flight … well I suppose that’s meant to be for the seeker on the bombs, not the default laser code of the TGP, but presumably it could be made to apply to an AI jet, for buddy-lasing purposes, even if it carried no LGBs or LMavs.
-
@airtex2019 - yes…exactly right. But it still has to be passed between participants so that they can enter the correct one to correspond with the jet that’s dropping the weapon; i.e. - the weapon itself and the designator have to match.
That would be include LGB, LMAV, LST, Laser, etc. - both in the air AND on the ground (MULE). For combined operations they would not all be the same, and would be assigned per target in accord with OOB in order to deconflict. This coordination would need to be incorporated into Campaign Briefings…for one. I’m sure other use cases will present.
