White phosphor NVGs
-
I guess because of timeframe and resource limitation. Since the F4 the NVG always was green that modeling was improved. Just because now there is another NVG (I’m bet this is not the only one is used in USAF) and other countries also can use different NVG…

Hello,
it shall be pretty simple, but it means that we would need a tab to select which NVG you want to fly with, so a little bit of code support.
Personally, I never tried white phosphor NVG, here is what we find on internet :
It looks there is indeed a bit more contrast.
Is there some users that can confirm ?

Just because a new item is being issued in any military doesn’t mean that the old ones are not in common use still and will probably be a long time until it is completely transitioned in all units to white phosphor.
Yes, @Radium that’s my understanding but haven’t used them. White offers more contrast and detail, less eyestrain, less halo effect, but green is apparently still better in super dark conditions.

@Snake122 technically speaking it’s very easy to do… just need some code. Will have some talk about the team I like the idea of two generations of NVG.

Unrelated but related…

I guess in this case the availability of the NVG also can be modeled.
Currently you can have NVG on any plane.
In a PvP it would be very interesting when a non-NVG capable plane meets with an plane which has it. -
@molnibalage This is a bit more complex because this would require a tag to mention which aircraft has NVG or not, but why not.
That being said, I wonder if many people fly non NVG aircraft…

@Radium another thing to add:
it will be perfect to see out the sides and below the Night vision goggles!
in bms when you turn on the NVGs sides and below are black! you can’t see out of the goggles! this is so creepy for a fighter pilot! because you can’t use nvgs and work with MFDs at the same time while you are using the Ground Mapping mode of the radar and nvgs are on!
it’s better to remove those dark masks around the circular NVG mask so pilot can see out the sides and below the goggles believe me… -
I’d like to know just which pilots use these, and under what conditions - I know the Marines have ambient light minima for using NVGs at all, forex.
I also know there is a recovery period for getting your natural night vision back after staring through NVGs (which is proportional to how long you’ve been looking through them), and I have a sneaking suspicion that with a white scene this recovery time could be increased…in my world, pilots are not allowed to land with NVGs in place for this reason and ejection considerations, so this would be a factor.
…which would be another cool improvement - I’d certainly like to see this post NVG recovery time modeled into BMS, if it’s not there already.
