@Radium
how would go about adding the canopy edges? the open and closing part of the canopy -
@Stevie I know buddy! I was thinking as I wrote that, in the at least 10 years I’ve known you here, maybe the older boards too, I appreciate your perspective on all those things. I remember your dedication to proper muscle memory, you’re obvious real world SME with pilot contacts etc. Even though we don’t always agree, I know you have an informed perspective.
But we’re getting old my friend As I am elluding to in my previous post, it’s part nostalgia, part practically when it comes to AESA, 5th Gen stuff, maybe Link16 even, I don’t want to put BMS at risk with the classified information issues like we’ve seen with the other sim and “sim”. Put me in my rocking chair with prune juice, buddy. I’m just remembering the “good old days.” For me though, there’s nothing wrong with that because there is so much more BMS can do with say 1980-2010 to keep them busy until the current stuff is available IMO.
Anyway, enough derailing, this old man will get off his soap box and let @okayasugf get back to modeling and hopefully soon other dedicated members like @drtbkj will bring dedicated Hornet avionics to his good looking WIP model.
-
almost done with all the details
-
just added some color for fun
-
Looks great!
-
@Snake122 - you got that right! I’m looking forward to retirement more every hour…but I’ve been at this so long that I worry that I never will actually be “retired”.
It’s been a good ride…
-
@okayasugf - all of the lines blend pretty smoothly - no need to worry about any “filleting” or such. I think you’ve got it, the way you’ve done it.
-
Gun port done
-
@okayasugf - that really looks like one!
-
Apologies for the long break, was busy with internships and couldn’t keep working on the model since i had almost no free time, but now that im back, will keep constantly working on it. To resume my work, fixed some parts of the mesh and optimizing it also. Also added weapon pylons and wing actuators.
Next would be adding the arresting hook and then the most daunting task, the unique landing gear of the hornet.
-
front landing gear also done, rear might take some time -
rear landing gear also done and dusted. gonna work on smaller details now. Then starting the optimization process of mesh for BMS. -
Arresting hook done aswell. -
@okayasugf - this is looking better and better…don’t forget to toe the pylons!
-
@Stevie could you elaborate about on the toe part
-
@Stevie
oh you mean angle them to the angle of the wing, gotcha -
@okayasugf - notice in the picture that the pylons are not oriented straight fore-aft in line with the airstream, like on a Viper or just about any other fighter out there They are canted notably outboard on a Super Hornet.
-
@okayasugf - Affirmative - yes!
Here’s a shot of some additional details on the aft end of the jet…
-
@Stevie yeah i’ve made these, tho didnt have a really close picture of them haha

If memory serves, they’re at a 12 deg. angle
