Has anyone bought and tested the TM TQS?
-
Hello fellow pilots.
Has anyone bought and tested this new TQS and verified that it is recognized by the BMS setup and works with the sim.
I use the Realsim FSSB and the original cougar TQS, and I need to make sure the RealSim software and this new TQS will not have conflicts/issues.
I am going to check with TM to see if they have tested it with BMS. -
@huffer2 joysticks are like USB thumb-drives … you plug them in, they self-describe to the OS their capacity and capabilities (how many buttons, how many axes, etc) and that’s all there is to it. they conform to what is known as “HID” (human interface device) spec… same spec that allows mouse and keybd to “just work” when plugged in
now that BMS supports up to 128 buttons per device… and devices with reversed throttle-axes (I think the Virpil throttles were like that, for some reason)
typically, only real need for special drivers/software is if you want to update the firmware… or redefine features, eg. change an x/y ministick to act as an 8-way hat, or reverse an axis at the firmware level, or something along those lines
anyway… always buy from sources with a good return policy but I can’t imagine any compat problems

@huffer2 you shouldn’t have any issues. I run the FFSB and a WinWing Orion 2 without issue. I also flew with a Cougar TQS I rewired and the Warthog throttle with the FSSB without any conflict between the two.

we still have to wait until mid-october, but then we’ll all know more for sure.

The new TM TQS is not out yet. Just pre-orders are open.
Delivery will be in October -
@airtex2019
Thanks for the advice. The last youtube video above shows how well the OS for windows is recognizing the hardware. I just want to be sure that in BMS/setup/controllers the TM Viper TQS will be recognized. -
@JUmpstart5179
Good to know. Thanks for your input. -
@Echo
Thx. I did log into TM tech support page and I did ask if they have tested this hardware with BMS. I will let everyone know when I get a email response. -
@Flow32
Thx for your help. -
@huffer2 TM will not understand your question. The throttle is not software specific, it is a directinput device. It will be compatible.

Hi there
The manual seem to be online
-
Small update, delivery should be tomorrow here (11.10) about 5 CET
-
@Echo Same here. A good sign is Amazon just charged me for it this morning. Still says it will be delivered Thursday.

According to the manual it uses Target Software for programming. So, this tells me it will program using the Alt Launcher. The only issue I see is programming the indicator lights if we use the Alt Launcher. Last time I tried using Target with my Warthog, Target overroad Alt Launcher.

I have the TM Viper TQS (not the mission pack one) and it works with BMS without an issue. The only thing which is tricky is the “idle detent” “idle” or “off”. The throttle axis is not all the way down into cut off position. Instead it behaves like a “button” and it has to be programmed like for “idle”: Button is “released” and “off” for button is “pushed/on”. By the way, when the throttle is in AB position it is also been detected as a pushed button, but that is not necessary for BMS, because the Axis goes to the maximum forward position and you can define the AB threshold at your desire.
Overal I think the TM Viper TQS is definitly an improvement compared to the TM cougar one…

@Zwingli Good info

@Echo Mine is out for delivery. Patiently waiting

After 20 years of Service a new Era has started…

Yes! Installer it today and took it for a ride! It’s top notch quality. The axes of the radar cursor are oriented slightly different compared to the Cougar. I’ll get used to it someday.
You need to install the drivers from the Thrustmaster page to activate all the buttons (if you happen to have the Panel). Otherwise the you won’t be able to use all of them (e.g. Master Arm Off, Quiet, etc.).
I hope that the price will drop a bit over time.
Other than that, it’s quite a neat device and much better than my heavily modded Cougar throttle and world’s apart from the stock one.
