Unsolved F-15C doesn't fire missile during a campaign mission
-
First of all, I want to say that the new F-15C which comes with Update 3 (BMS 4.37) looks awesome and it’s great to finally to have a “completely new aircraft” in BMS (with completely new and different avionics and sensors from the F-16, I mean).
As such I decided to play a campaign in the stock Korea theater (Rolling Fire) playing with the F-15C squadron (flying from Gunsan) but now I’m having the following issue there:- When getting to the frontline and while trying to engage enemy aircraft, after setting Master Arm on, air-to-air mode, and selecting the MRM mode, AMRAAM missiles won’t fire at enemy locked aircraft after pressing (and holding) the release weapon button and neither will Sidewinder missiles fire at the selected target when the SRM mode is selected.
Only the gun works!
This is strange because when playing the “F-15C_Scramble” mission in TE or when trying to fire against a friendly target in a campaign mission (mentioned above) just after taking off (early), I have no problems in firing any missiles.
It almost seems like the missiles become “broken” after flying for a considerable period of time and therefore can’t be launched anymore. - When getting to the frontline and while trying to engage enemy aircraft, after setting Master Arm on, air-to-air mode, and selecting the MRM mode, AMRAAM missiles won’t fire at enemy locked aircraft after pressing (and holding) the release weapon button and neither will Sidewinder missiles fire at the selected target when the SRM mode is selected.

@ricnunes did you over-G ?
-
@ricnunes
Your F-15 does not fire any missile during any campaign mission OR it happened one time?
I dont understand why locking a friendly target allows you to fire. There is nothing in the code checking that.However, during tests, one coder reported the same one or two times. I could not replicate.
The guess with over-G is possible, but now thinking, also that AP ATT is/was on. Can you please check?Other thing that can be tested:
Were your msl slaved or BORE? The Bore for the MRM was not finished. -
When it happened, did you get a blinking FPM when you pressed the pickle?
-
Hi all,
I will try to reply to all questions in this post:
-
No, I didn’t over-G. I simply took-off, did gentle turns after taking off towards the BARCAP station/waypoint and locked and tried to shoot at incoming enemy Migs without making any noticeable hard turns.
-
This situation happens to me all the times during the campaign that I started. I’ll send a link below with one of my campaign savegames:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vtQx1zO6tBzqokIZcWf77h0mnz-ZRXjz/view?usp=sharing
Everytime I fly one of the first missions (F-15C squadron from Gunsan) - for instance the 1st of 3rd which are BARCAPs - this issue always happens. Anyway, this is definitely not a “one off” situation. -
Autopilot is always off when this happens.
-
I never mess with the msl slaved or BORE setting. Actually and to be honest with you, I don’t even know where that is changed, LoL. So that setting must be set to the “default setting”.
-
Where’s the “blinking FPM” light?
-
-
@ricnunes
Apologies that is happening. Need a couple of additional infos:- ramp or taxi start?
- are you carrying only AIM-120? AIM-7? What is the loadout? Mixed?
I ask because I think it is related to loadout in these first missions. I will try myself the Rooling Fire, 1st mission, etc. Can you please try to change the loadout?
-
No problem tiag!
I’m glad to be helpfull.- Either on ramp start or runway start. Actually I haven’t tried a taxi start.
- A mix of AIM-120B and AIM-120C. There’s no AIM-7 available in this campaign/squadron.
I could try to load a full AIM-120B or a full AIM-120C loadout (but I can only do this tomorrow). But to be honest I’m a bit skeptical because like I said earlier, I was able to fire an AMRAAM missile (at a friendly aircraft for test purposes) early just after I take off but not later on against enemy aircraft.
-
I have a similar problem. In a modified version of the TE_BMS_19_F-15C_Scramble scenario with an added flight of 4 Mig-21’s (as an easier target), I can either fire off one AIM120 or none, and I’m unsure as to why.
Once airborne, I switch into MRM mode and lock a radar contact with TARGET DESIGNATOR CONTROL - PRESS and the fire an AIM120C
Sometime it fires, sometimes it doesn’t. If I can fire one, I cannot then unlock and retarget and then fire a 2nd.
Edit:
additionally, I do not see any A/A MRM AIM-120 symbology (aspect caret, FOV circle, RPI, RTR, Rmin, etc) in the HUD before firing, and the FPM then begins to flash post firing.
-
@steve6 if you dont see any MRM symbology, then:
you are not in MRM
you dont have a MRM
or you are no in A2A mode->Very important: In order to release a MRM you have to press and hold until fired.
@ricnunes Just flew the first mission of Rolling Thunder, and scored two kills, two shots with AIM-120C.
One locked with Coolie UP and fired
One in SS at the merge, Slammer on the face.-> Noticed though a bug on symbology that may be confusing all of us here: When no SRM is carried (which was the case here), you can still enter SRM, the HUD symbology is not shown, HOWEVER, in the A2A page it shows a MRM RDY.
Could be that you guys are thinking you are in MRM, but actually you are in SRM? -
@tiag
SRM Mode
(RDY should not be displayed a the AIM-120C)
MRM Mode
(correct)
-
@ricnunes it happened to me as well. Once or two, symbology was on the HUD, contact was locked, and no missile firing. It’s not all the time. I think it was when I ramp started. I think I had a mix of 120B/C
-
Here’s what I see:
MRM’s ready, target locked on radar and visible in HUD, no extra cues in the HUD though
-
@steve6 You’re not into A/A mode, you’re in ADI mode. Press the ADI red button (to exit this mode), and you should be good.
-
@Croa Cheers!
Obviously missed that bit in the doc - there’s a lot to lean
-
@ricnunes Are you using the autopilot at any point during a mission where you can’t launch missiles?
I’m wondering if it is stemming from when the paddle switch is used to disengage the AP.If you experience the bug again. Try cycling the physical AP switches to see if that restores missile firing capability.
-
@DUSTOFF17,
Well yes, during the flight after takeoff and before getting close to the CAP location, I did use autopilot (both ATT and ALT) and I really disengaged it with the paddle switch.
I will try not to use the autopilot and/or not using to paddle switch to disengaged it and will report back, as soon as possible.EDIT:
I can now confirm that the culprit of this issue is what DUSTOFF17 said:- Using the paddle switch to disengage the autopilot!
I made two sorties, both starting from the ramp where in the first one I never used the autopilot and in the second, I used the autopilot but didn’t disengage it using the paddle switch (instead I used the autopilot switches in the cockpit) and I could fire my missiles without any problems!
-
@ricnunes I appreciate you taking the time to follow up, I’ll forward this to Tiago!
Cheers

As far as I know, paddle disengages only as you keep it pushed. Autopilot is enabled again when you release it. Did you keep it pushed?
-
Not quite, pressing the paddle switch momentarily will snap the AP physical switches on the left console to OFF.

Different from the F16 then, ok
