Falcon 4 cd

@m1tp2king I’m told it is possible but not easy. The installer from 1998 was transported 25 years into the future, and is confused by things like 64-bit Windows.
Typical recommendation is to pay $5-10 to Steam or GoG for a modern updated installation experience

@airtex2019 Not to mention most computers don’t even have disk drives anymore.

Geez Im so paranoid I clicked this thread after reading Falcon 4 ctd

@Icarus there are some cheap external disk drives, I got mine for less than 15€. However, when I got my current PC, Windows 10 at the time, I didn’t have a disk drive, so as a Hail Mary solution I copied the content of the disc on a USB stick using my older computer and tried to install it with that. Strangely enough, it worked.

If you don’t have a drive anymore, it may be cheaper and easier to just buy the Steam version of Falcon 4. It costs 6,99 euro and works too. No hassle with drives and/or compatibility issues.

@m1tp2king I think at this point in time, being able to install F4 from a CD is a big IF
IF it does install, then you’re good to go.
IF it does not install, then you can get Falcon 4.0 from Steam or the Falcon Collection from GoG. I would personally recommend the GoG version as it comes with some goodies as well. -
All of the above…
I too have my F4 original CD since 1998. One time I thought it’s such a great game I might use it someday in the far future. So I did what’s it called a CD rip, an iso image of that original CD. I still have it safely stored in my TM Cougar box (along with the cougar HOTAS).
But whenever I do the dance (veterans will know what I mean by that), I mount the image and setup Falcon from that. I don’t have CD-rom drive any more so this is comfortable solution. But yes, considering the price on Steam it really isn’t worth the hassle any other way if you don’t have it.

@Xeno said in Falcon 4 cd:
@Icarus you mean optical drives, but yep, SSDs are not really hard drives .
Disk Drive is colloquial for Optical Disk Drive. I think most understood I did not mean Hard Disk Drive. No idea what SSD has to do with this though.

As long as you have an optical drive, ie dvd burn or just cdrom. All you do is install Falcon 4.0 with a right click compatability mode and pick windows 8.1.
All the best and enjoy the best F-16 sim ever made, and long may it continue.
