WIP: JA37 Viggen
-
I’m really sorry not having enough time free to contribute, I’ve all engine and aero data for JA-37, just never format them in Falcon format…
BTW: do not miss delta effect, delta wing do NOT lose more energy at high AoA, they drag less on these conditions, they just drag more at medium AoA (where most A/C reach their best sustained turn rate), and Viggen is not a true delta, but a delta+canard, so she does not suffer the usual “limited AoA in supersonic” delta feature. -
Thanks Topolo, could you send me the engine and aero data you have for the JA-37?
And about the energy loss: in the book ‘Swedish Viggens’ written by Jan Jorgensen is a chapter about the flight characteristics. "When manoeuvring, the Viggen’s initial turn rate was excellent, but it lost energy fast due to the high induced drag caused by the large delta wing and even though this was partially compensated by the powerful engine, the sustained turn rate was poor. In a 180 degree turn at maximum G (7) the speed could go from Mach 0.9 to 300 km/h (186 mph). When describing the braking eeffect of the delta wing one pilot said that it was like dragging a barn door behind you when manouevring hard." In other words, the Viggen was not ment as a dogfighter, but as a very stable weapon platform throughout the whole flight envelope.
Btw, Jan Jorgensen is also the photographer of these wellknown pictures: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Sweden–-Air/Saab-JA37DI-Viggen/0969713/L/

Nice mAX. Sounds good.

Nice sounds! How do you make individual aircraft sound different?
-
I add new numbers/lines in the sndtbl file, then I just set them in the fm.dat , in theory there could be dedicated sounds for all aircraft unless there is a file size limit or a highest number in sndtbl file, some sounds are “hard coded” it seems, cockpits sounds mainly.
Cheers

Nice movie. How do you get that close formation in the intro part? 10 times ‘join up’?
-
Lol, I think it was 3, I told em to do Vic and they closed up even more:)
Cheers
-
Good sequence with that original sound
-
By my request mAX has made a separate movie of the 4-ship passing. The sound is an actual recording of 4 Viggens flying by. So you can play it loud to get a bit of the sensation
-
Very nice sound edits.
… additionally that video looks like those VFAT videos.
Cheers,

Isnt it possible to have these kind of realistic sounds in BMS.
current fly-by sounds are not even close to reallife.
It would be great to ramp with an open canopy with the roars of the departing and arriving jets in the background.
my 2 cents…QT

Good Luck, Snail and Co!
Very nice project gents!Cheers

It probably would be possible, just need someone to code the darn thing I guess

I finally find enough time to review/tune the Viggen FM, and I had to opportunity to fly the bird from the huge work already done by the team. It’s really a great plane, I hope you will enjoy to fly it.
-
Topolo, your help is very much appreciated!
-
Update:
Fenrir has provided a lot of real life data about the flight model. And Topolo is so kind to take the time to translate it into the Viggen BMS flightmodel, which will become as realistic as can be.
Nanard has given permission to add a Viggen shell (wings) to the F-16 cockpit, which will enhance immersion as long as a dedicated 3D cockpit is still behind the horizon. It’s really appreciated!
Me happy

Not me, Giant is the guy to get the credds
Cheers

Kudo’s go to Giant then

It will take some time (weeks), before I can map the Viggen FM to the documents I received,
Let see what we will have beginning of next year !
