Saitek X65F & BMS Alternative Launcher

@Foxtrot701 Interesting about the VKB NXT…never heard of it nor the brand. Does the throttle have something that functions as the finger lift(s)? TIA!
-
General note on X65F setup. I use the SST v7.0.53 driver and software, and I followed the directions during setup, only plugging the throttle in when the U/I indicated. Once you do that, it takes the Saitek setup FOREVER for the system to “see” the hardware, but it will eventually allow you to progress with the “NEXT” button. I mean it took many minutes…don’t know how long because I let it sit while I was doing email, etc. Everything then worked flawlessly with A/L.

@dawgboy NXT is a stick, not a throttle, but VKB released the STECS throttle about six month ago. While there are “finger lifts”, they are more like triggers, with one trigger on each side of each grip.

Is this what you use?Gladiator NXT EVO ‘Space Combat Edition’ - Right Hand Premium.
https://www.vkbcontrollers.com/products/gladiator-nxt-evo-space-combat-edition-right-hand?variant=39887803613302Does it work well with other PC flight sims?
(reviews are very positive)Many thanks!
-
@PRNDL Yes, it is. The EVO is an improved version of the old NXT, which is no longer in production (but can be upgraded, which is why i love the VKB). I use NXT in DCS, IL-2 and BMS and it works well.

@Foxtrot701
Yet another question.
VKB SIM Gladiator MKII?It’s a WW2 style joystick. Discontinued. Reviews are very positive, especially for the precision.
Wondering if this is a must-get stick at less than half the price of the EVO.
Thanks again!

@PRNDL no for BMS you really want the 4 hats + analog ministick… FCR, TMS, DMS, CMS, trim, and comms.

Roger…thanks. In my haste, I went to look at both the NXT and STECS, and I should’ve specified STECS. Since then, I’ve poked around enough over the next few hours to see it has something that can function as finger lifts.

I’m getting some odd behavior…
The throttle works properly in the AL Axis page, but is not working when the game starts.
Moving it makes it work for a little while, then it forgets it.
Also, it seems to jump from slow to afterburner… 400 max speed, then turn and go 200?I’m using the generic HID device driver.
Nothing works in the game controller settings, so there’s no way to adjust the sensitivity.I’m wondering if it’s better to install the Saitek driver.
(without opening SST)I also tried Falcon 4, but none of the buttons worked.
That may need SST to work.
Instant action was really fun… point and shoot!
BMS might be too realistic… 6 on 1 means 10+ missiles coming at you!Does RS Mapper make any sense?
Thanks!

@PRNDL if you suspect you have a borken calibration, you can delete that in the registry … I think your X65F key will be
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\DirectInput\VID_06A3&PID_0B6A
you can delete that reg key, then run “Joy.cpl” to run though the calibration process, from scratch
if that doesn’t work… have to consider maybe faulty hardware
-
@airtex2019
Turns out I’ve got Hid Hide and Joystick gremlin installed.
Could they be the issue? -
@PRNDL maybe? no idea
-
@airtex2019
Joy.cpl works and calibrates, but nothing happens when moving the throttle or joystick or buttons.Everything works in the game (except the throttle joystick, perhaps because there’s a USB mouse)
The throttle is set a zero (if you look at it) and moving it fixes it, for a little while.
Then it sets to zero again (after a few seconds).The generic HID driver is up to date (2006).
Windows updated itself, which historically causes driver issues.I just plugged in a powered USB3 hub, but the initial throttle at zero remains.
Keep getting shot down fast in instant action.Is there a training mission that starts in the air, with only one enemy to deal with?
Preferably a really bad enemy!
Any ideas?
Thanks again!

@PRNDL if you want to zip up your User/Config subfolder and send me a link – I’ll take a look.
I’ve reached the limit of what I can debug by guesswork.
-
@airtex2019
Made a zip file. How do I send it?Have a Mad Cat Rat 3 mouse. Thought it might interfere.
Same issue with an old apple ball mouse, and both unplugged.
Throttle at zero on game start. Moving it fixes that.Thanks!

@PRNDL have to use google drive, or onedrive, or dropbox or similar file-share to paste a link here

@PRNDL I gave it a detailed examination, and I don’t spot anything wrong.
I don’t know how or why a particular USB mouse would affect your joystick … but there’s a first time for everything.
I would use Training Mission #3 which starts in-air, to try to debug this. Look down in the 3d cockpit, at the throttle lever…
Note, when you first spawn in, the throttle won’t respond until you wiggle it a bit – that bit of “grace period” is intentional, in the code, in case you spawned in with the throttle at max-AB or in idle-cutoff or similar.
But if you move it all the way forward, then all the way back, then to desired mid-range position… it should respond, and remain there.
Does the X65F have a dual-throttle? One test you could do, is to swap the throttle assignments. (Map physical right throttle lever as throttle1, and the physical left-throttle as throttle2.)
You can probably just use the Setup/Controllers screen to see visual feedback … viz. are the two halves moving in close unison?
If not… it probably means the potentiometer on one or both levers physically degraded, or corroded …
But if the right-hand throttle is working ok, you can fly single-engine jets like F-16 that way – just continue to use the right-throttle as the main throttle.
-
@airtex2019
X65F does have dual throttle.
AL axis assign shows them working, but the system game controller doesn’t show anything working.
Probably because of the generic driver.The system game controller shows USB input device along with the X65F
I changed the Power Management to not let it power off when not used.
(The X65F doesn’t have a power management tab)
That may have worked. -
@PRNDL share a screen shot of the Setup/Controllers screen
your DeviceSorting.txt only listed 1 device, the X65F
maybe HidHide is messing something up on your system
