HUD too big?
-
Hey guys,
I’ve been playing VR for a week and I noticed that otherwise I lean forward, I can’t see the totality of the HUD with both eyes, as some of the simbology gets obstructed by the HUD supports.
I guess the whole HUD should be easily readable by the pilot when resting his back on the chair. I tried re-centering (by holding press the Meta button) while resting my back on the chair and the problem is still there.
My IPD is about 62. Is there any setting I can tweak to reduce the HUD size? Or is this working as intended?
Thanks!

@Enginikts Are you rolling mouse wheel back to zoom out?
-
@mjones I can’t “zoom” in VR, just lean forwards and backwards. Should I be able to?

I don’t know, not familiar with VR controls.

I can’t speak specifically for the Viper but it’s very common IRL for HUDs horizontal FOV to exceed what is visible with both eyes through the HUD simultaneously. IE : you have to move your head to the side to see info at the edges of the HUD with both eyes.
But specifically to the Viper, the pilot does not fly with his head against the headrest, that’s mainly for pulling G and looking up out the top of the cockpit in a turn fight, this is due to how far back his head is because of the reclined seat. The normal straight and level flying position has his head above his shoulders, meaning it’s quite a long way from the headrest.

I don’t remember this being an issue but my headset is out of commission for the time being. I’ll re-check when I get the headset back. -

Means that your seat position setting is not right. (Too far awar from harmonized position)
Don’t you have seat adjustment cues in your aircraft? ( Two white balls and one red ball or something similar)See: https://aircrafttechnic.com/general_aviation/the-eye-reference-point/?amp=1

With this you reminded me to the ATR.

@Enginikts well it’s not a VR-specific problem … flatscreen has the same issue, from the default head position.
with traditional head-tracking, I think people are used to just sitting a few inches forward – ie. lean back a few inches when hitting the “recenter-trackir” button. (does that not work the same with VR?)

@airtex2019 I’ve just tested with opentrack and it’s not the case. If I recenter my head center when in 2D this is what I see, even zooming out:
The hud fits perfectly between the hud supports. I wish it was a bit smaller tho, even in 2D.

@Enginikts cool, thanks … I think some work has been done on this recently but I couldn’t remember if it was still in beta or not

Head/seat position in the F15 also needs adjustement. The eye position is a bit low at the moment.

@Enginikts Hi, IDK about VR, but an old trick is to lean back as far as possible and hit F12. When you lean forward into position you see more of the HUD
