Creating and Running a Campaign: One User's Guide

This is a good document …
You mention how to do almost everything BUT why no mention of WDP so that you can put all that good info to use and for ref onto your kneeboards?
I would not fly without setting up my kneeboards with WDP.
Just my thoughts.

Excellent point, Ironman. I didn’t think to include it because, although I rely on WDP for many things, I don’t use WDP for mission-to-mission planning. Long ago I built my own Excel workbook that I keep on a side monitor that has all the kneeboard info I need.
I also track my missions and chart the performance data with another worksheet I created:
Because I use these worksheets, I don’t use WDP. But I think you’re right-- SOMEBODY (hint) might want to put together a document about the advantages of WDP!

Really great work. Thank you

This document will help us create our own campaign.
Good document,Thank you for you great job SoBad! -
@SoBad
The talent and generosity of this forum never ceases to amaze me!
Bravo, for a clear, simple and VERY helpful guide to get a campaign off the ground.

@SoBad Thank you for sharing.

@SoBad
dadgummit, even more useful info!! Thanks! -
@SoBad I used your users guide on a fresh new campaign in Nordic Theater called Skyfox. Used latest Mission Commander edition and established three squadrons not HQ committed. When i pushed the Tab Campaign in Mission commander, i got a notice, but i am not sure what it means.
I flew alone my mission, with 5 flights together in a Harpoon Tasmo mission, 2 flights Tasmo, 1 flight Tarcap and two flights Havcap. Everything was OK.
To night, me and 4 others tried to use my scenario, but they got a lot of failures loading my scenario, and immediate got CTD. Anybody has a clew whats wrong? We then took and old mission in Nordic and everything worked fine as multiplayer.

@Killroy - I’ve always gotten (and ignored) that caution window. I have no idea what it means. I’m sure someone else might know. I’ve never had any issues, whether connected to that caution window or not.
I can’t speak for other theatres, and I can’t speak for doing MP either, because I lost my riding partner years ago and can’t find another person with similar A/G interests in my time zone.
If you get any insight that points to possible issues playing MP with others using such a customized campaign, I hope you comment in this thread so others can know and either confirm or deny if they try it themselves. If the issues you’re having are confirmed for whatever reason, I’ll add a disclaimer in my document as well. Thanks for the heads-up.

@Killroy
Maybe they need to copy the exact same Nordic folder after your changes over their stock ones?
Because so they now have a different version. Or would it be sufficient to just overwrite the CAM and SAV files for the campaigns? -

@SoBad
I tried another solution. Started the campaign in ordinary way, with HQ as responsible for fragging.Then made three new squadrons on my airfield, with latest edition og mission commander, and set all three to manually fragging.
Then it looks like i can enjoy to play missions with 72 planes for myself. Great!
I dont know if this solution full fill yours need, but i am very pleased, and it was thanks to yours Initiative with your pdf-file.I tested this with only one hooked up in MP, but he did not get any failures or CTD.
I will test further, and let you know. -
@Killroy
A good way to tweak the campaign.But if you just want to control several squadrons for packages with multiple aircraft types, you can do this all in the sim itself: Join one of the desired squadrons, tick off the “Set by HQ” in Intel > Squadron, then to the next one.
And then simply delete their missions fragged by HQ in the desired timeframe.
Advantage: you can always hand them over to HQ again if you don’t need them for the next missions and then redo the dance when needed. So you don’t take them out of the “big HQ plan” entirely.
I often make a huge attack plan in Korea against Shenyang, when China enters the war.
Though, this has to include several packages, because the number of flights in one package is limited.
I had “just” 52 planes in the attackAlso nice: In Desert Storm, you can reenact the huge Package Q Strike:

A good way to tweak the campaign.All valid alternative approaches. I’m glad to see those of you taking more control of the campaign. The main point of my publishing this document was to encourage newer players to take the plunge by trying to let them see that it’s not as daunting as it might first appear.

This was new for me, and a clever way to what we are looking after!

Wow thats interesting.
-
Chaps,
Just a word of warning - if YOU take control of a Squad, or indeed more than one, and NOT HQ your squad will NOT be resupplied as it would be if it was controlled by HQ.
You can however resupply your squads with both pilots an ordinance via MC - just saying.

@Ironman53rd Wait. The automatic resupply only happens for AI controlled squadrons?
If that’s the case I suppose there is a way to manually frag resupply runs?
