How do you discipline TARCAP (AI) pilots?
When I’m building a campaign package and acting as a striker myself, I’ve noticed that fellow AIs assigned to TARCAPs are a little too enthusiastic.
Even if they limit the duration of the CAP to 5 to 10 minutes, even if I set their TARCAP points at a relatively long distance from the objective, they systematically engage bandits on the other side of the planet, and above all, they never stop attacking and engaging, sometimes far from the area they’re supposed to be protecting. In fact, at the start of a campaign, when there are many enemy aircraft, they only stop when they are destroyed, which is not tactically the desired effect.
Is there anything you can do to stop them from screwing around?
If not, could the programmers look into their kamikaze behavior (yes, I know, it’s easy to write)?

@Rouge1512 when you discover the answer, these fellas would like a word with you…

@Quasi_Stellar - but first…you must bring us…A SHRUBBERY!
-
@Rouge1512 - I’ve found that if you assign them to HAVCAP with your flight callsign as the ‘Target’, they do very well.
-
@SoBad you may be on to something there… Good call
-
@Rouge1512 A tactic that tends to work is to move the TARCAP steerpoints further south. And when you get jumped by Red Air then flow south to the TARCAP “Line”.

Thank you all for your advice.
I will try your recommendations -

Run away, run away…
Seriously, though @Rouge1512 , Quasi has a point. Working with the AI is a fun challenge. I’ll have to try SoBad’s HAVCAP idea. I’ve had some luck with setting them as BARCAP between your target and the threat axis.

i have tried both with success.
I used F22 as TARCAP, they disappeared to the vest… as HAVCAP and BARCAP they did a good job. That means something is wrong with their TARCAP behaviour. I do not know if this is a failure for all TARCAPs in BMS.

Concur. I’ve also seen some weird behavior when you set AI up to escort you , too.
Also, I wondered if mission type of my strike flight could have some effect. I’ve tested SEAD,DEAD,OCA Strike, and Pre-planned CAS , and with the AI in my package and separate. I haven’t seen any vast differences. The best results so far is a BARCAP
However, I’m definitely going to try the HAVCAP idea
