No Nav points and lines on the HSD
-
@Carbide It has to be something with me screwing up the DTC. I did do the click dance, but what I am seeing in the dtc setup page is that it says target steer points not set. I have tried reset, and reset all, and while that fixed issues I had on the comms page, it is not fixing the issue with not steerpoints on the HSD. This has to be the issue, but since clicking “reset” and “reset all” did not work, I am stumped.
Could I have messed something up with Weapons Delivery Planner?
I am sure I am missing something simple and obvious, but right now I am not seeing it. I really do appreciate all the help and advice, because this is driving me nuts.
-
@Scotters If its driving you nuts and its taken longer than 20 minutes to fix then save your config folder and any files you want to backup and reinstall BMS (5 min). Test clean install (keep an extra copy of clean install config folder). If you put old config folder back and it happens again then it is something you messed up in config folder and you are close to solving it by testing one file at a time. When you find it, replace it with one from clean config.
-
@Icarus I think I will have to do that. Everything I have tried has failed so far.
Thanks Icarus. -
@Scotters maybe try a new pilot, before going with the nuclear option
-
@Quasi_Stellar
Well, I already went nuclear, but no joy! I uninstalled, reinstalled, put my backup config folder back in, started the game without WDP, but still no nav points in the training missions. And I was mistaken, they do not show up on the HUD either. The tadpole is there, but whichever steer point I choose, its 999 nm away, lol.Now the nav points and lines are on the map when setting up the mission. Is there a way to reload them back into the DTC, or whatever.
Btw, I will try using a new pilot right now! Maybe that will fix it.
-
@Scotters Did you try it before you replaced the config folder like I told you?
-
@Quasi_Stellar No joy with the new pilot.
So I see all the steer points on the map in the planning screen. I am not using Weapon Delivery Planner. I am doing the click dance. I have tried several training missions, including the first 4, and a few others like Bar Cap to test things.
Other clues, when I load up training mission 3, landing practice, all the lines are red. I know I did not move any lines or steer points.
When I am in the cockpit flying, and I switch between steer points, it appears that I am getting the correct latitude and longitude, but on the HUD, I am always 999 nm away, and no lines appear on the HSD.
I have the Viper TQS and I have the ILS/TCN dial set to NAV. Also, I use the DogFight switch to make sure that I am in NAV mode.
Is there a way to just recopy the Training MIssions? Or should I not be able to reset things in the DTC? I have hit reset many times though, no luck.
-
@Icarus No I missed that, my apologies Icarus. Obviously it has to be something there.
I have spent over an hour trouble shooting. Taking a break for now. If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. -
@Scotters could be a problem with the user ini file or the mission ini…
-
Don’t know if it’s related… but maybe an input:
I had an issue once… creating lines and PPTs on the map…
sometimes, when I grabbed and moved a point at max zoom factor, the point would disappear to somewhere else, far far outside of the theater area.
This could really mash up any flight plan and navigation. In order to fix it, I had to open the “callsign”.ini with notepad++, look for big negative numbers, and reset them manually.
Maybe you would want to check your “Scotters.ini” file and check the lines beginning with “target”, “ppt”, lineSTPT", wpntarget"… if there are any negative numbers.
But please do a backup first if you want to change something.
-
Thanks! I will look into that.
-
@MaxWaldorf
Do you or anyone else have a copy of the mission ini for the training missions. Maybe I can try replacing it. -
@MaxWaldorf No negative numbers, but I see in every line for steer points" “target not set.” Maybe that is a clue, not sure.
-
Just reinstall (save clean config and mission files) then add old files one at a time starting with most likely culprits until it starts again then you will know which one needs to be replaced.
-
@Scotters out of curiosity, what’s the name of your callsign ini file? Does it contain non standard characters? I’m think maybe the OS isn’t writing to the file.
-
@CriticalMass Iron Eagle, lol! I watched the movie too many times as a kid, and now as an adult, it is why I am a pretend F 16 fighter pilot. Oh, and the name I gave my pilot in BMS is of course, Doug Masters.
Anyways, I have solved the issue by making sure that my Viper TQS MODE dial is on TCN, and then adding a few steps to the click dance, I reset all of the target points, and after saving everything, I hit load. If I do this once, then the training mission loads fine from then on, but if I do all of the above but have the MODE dial not on TCN, but NAV or something, the steer points do not appear on the HSD, and they do not come back while flying, even if switching the MODE back to TCN.
This is still weird, and I am not sure why it was all jacked up, but at least it works now. I still don’t completely understand what I did.
Almost forgot, a big Thank You to everyone who helped me with this weird issue.

While in the air practicing navigation, when I switch from TCN to Nav or any other choice on the Viper TQS Mission Pack, I lose my steer points in the HSD. I tried reloading the data tape. I also tried an inflight realign of the EGS, but I get nothing. Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong?
-
You might have a duplicate or incorrect callback assigned to your device. Maybe it is also rotating the EGI knob when you think it is changing the HSI modes.
-
@TeeSquare Thanks for the help, you were on to something. It appears the reason I was having issues with seeing the steering points on the HSD must have had something to do with a screwup I made mapping the Mode keys on the Viper TQS. I unmapped all of that for now, and there are no issues. Somehow things were being set up in the Thrustmaster Virtual Game Controller Root (whatever that is) and some of it was set up on the Viper TQS. Not sure what was going on there.
