New Texture Balkans
-
Indeed great work on textures, Rudi.
Now to the million $ question “will the campaign work”? If this current BMS Balkan theater, Rudi is making the texture repaint for, was made based on working Falcon AF theater and furthermore: major campaign and theater files, airbases, road paths, bridges, water areas, objectives & links beetween them are NOT ALTERED, then the campaign should work . Right?Hi Polak, is the current Balkans campaign that comes with the BMS Balkans release based on the the AF version? I did not know that… However, is this campaign still not working? I was under the impression that there were problems with having way to many objectives and some other stuff that brian had started to fix, but is now not getting done. It would be great if we could get him to pass on the work, together with some idea of what needs doing, so perhaps some others can try and get this finished?
Also, I am not trying to stick my nose in here and indeed, may be unaware of stuff going on behind the scenes but it strikes me that if the Spain guys and the Balkans guys got their heads together, it would be hugely beneficial to both teams……just a thought…

Mark,
I do not know what campaign and theater files are used in Balkans. In the post above I merely ask the question and do not state the fact. To my thinking there are two theaters in Falcon which have been (I presume) verified to work: original Korea and Balkans of Falcon AF. Covering them with new graphics without alteration to files would presumably render working theater. But of course there are her experts which have maybe different opinions.Yes, I think RAM22 is working on the Balkans, but I am not aware is that involves FF’s work. My point perhaps is to caution FF not to change any important elements of the theater or his work will be just a postcard shots.
And you are right, we are mostly unaware about cooperative stuff going behind the scene. Sometime that cooperation is constructive, but sometime unfortunately it is not ! It has been some ample time since BMS entered the scene and it is my only hope and wish that 2013 will bring some true efficient collaborations, which would really lead to working results.

To be fair, the FreeFalcon ITO2 campaigns finetuned first by ranger822 and later by RAM22 also work.
Plus from what I recall the Taiwan campaigns crafted by Stef’s team-at least in the FF version IIRC. -

I am available to help anyone who demands … thanks polak and thanks to all those who wish to contribute.

Incorrect. There was never any real work done at all on the ITO2 campaign files, here was the condition of them when I received them:
The units, layed down only with TCL scripts, nothing in the country it belonged, all had to be sorted:
The objectives, over 6000 of them, laid down using scripts also, had to be reduced to under 2000(There were over 2000 radar stations alone, most in Egypt that had to go):
Although 3 or 4 guys had the files, they never did anything with them. These are the files as they appeared in 2006 and was the same condition I received them in 2010.
Ranger822 did absolutely no work on them at all BTW. You have to know how to use TacEdit to do work on campaign files.

…
RAM22You now, sometimes I just try to be polite…
I knew you were the one who finetuned them and made them work in the first place. Before they were a slideshow a.o.:D -
Excellent !
Very, very good job!
But,I hope that textures will be photorealistic on specific target areas on Balkan
For now it looks like Italy theater,so I hope that I won’t have to play “reverse” campaign, in that campaign I take off in ex-Yugoslavia and attack Brindisi or other target in Italy,so that I would see beautiful photorealistic textures
That’s just my opinion.
Sorry! -
Fighting Falcon, you are such a tease:D Is there any chance you can give us a status update on your project?

Rudi,
Very good work and good looking textures. But to impress us all even further I would like to see some shots from the higher altitude and longer distances. Falcon is after all rather high altitude and good terrain work must withstand the test of higher altitudes and long range views. What I mean here whether the PR patches blend with each other and also blend well with regular tiles. I have tried myself countless photorealistic stuff and know from my experience, that what looks sometime good from close quarters is not always same from the longer range. Some of the textures are pretty noisy or clashing when looked from the distance. Also in distance views PR stuff often tends to become repetitious or not always that visually appealing like from close by.
I do not want to sound here as a smartass bent on criticising your good work. As you know I do some PR stuff too and by honest discussion what’s looking good and whats not, I am too are trying to learn something. I hope you understand and take it in constructive way. thank you.

Hi Polak, I hope no one thinks I am speaking out of line here, and I am sure the guys concerned will know better, BUT….I think Joe and Rudi are both using new techniques of supervariations and repeats to break up the patterns. From my own experience flying in the POH theater in the PR areas using these techniques, the results are good. Have you installed this and had a look? What they done is pretty clever. I have spent several hours going through the tiles and trying to work out from Monsters tool, how the tiles fit together and have not managed to work it out. Cheers, Mark

LOL, you’re polite most all the time!!
Yeah Ted, I agree about the higher shots. Not trying to be critical but I can still spot repeats even on the low shows although the last posted shot does look good but it is low to the ground and can actually be a unique spot specifically with nary a repeat of very few well hidden ones. Not bad.

Me think ITO-BMS has used that technique too (and Nevada among others) . Not pissing contest and this is not to say, that POH and this Balkan project is not on the cutting edge of terrain painting.
