BMS Manuals in paperback

no not at all, quite the contrary
I appreciated the link being removed to let me have a chance to manage myself my work -
How about getting some cheap 99$ tablet, and save some trees, huh ??? Start thinking people!!!
I reckon there is far more damage to the planet done by manufacture of ā gizmoās and gadgets ā than the commercial growing of paper. A product that is perhaps the most readily recycled of all. Save some trees?? Words fail me

Its not obvious to me the difference between printing out on my colour laser printer using expensive retail media or using a print bureau with their cheaper commercial materials. Ive no doubt both routes have been used ever since the 1st falcon related pdf ever appeared (from whatever source). Its to be expected and perhaps the only difference here is that its being talked about. I once bought an extra copy of falcon 4.0 on ebay and it came with a high quality ring bound SP3/SP4 manual. Naturally any commercial exploitation needs to be prevented where possible.

For me, itās not just the āprintingā that Iām after but the binding of the pages. I used to soft/hard-bind my own stuff but I donāt have the tools now and I find the 2-ring binders to be just accidents-waiting-to-happen. I use 4-ring binders now for any serious reading material, but a good perfect-bound book would be better.

Hi, just got another volume
-
Now youāre just showing off
-
Iād love to buy the manual in the smae format as sandb0x
I hope Red Dog can get something sorted
-
Yeah, Iām working on it

PDFās are cheap, but nothing beats a hardcopy! I think most will agree and as long as the printing costs are reasonable (and they appear to be) many of us would prefer to have it printed and donāt mind mind paying for something we use so often. I truely miss those big fat āring boundā manuals we used to get with the sims 10 years ago. Great reading while sitting in your favorite chair in the morning, drinking your coffee and getting yourself and the puter fired up to fly a mission!

Before any pro printing it would be good to have the errors weeded out first, be they technical or just typos. Perhaps anyone interested could be given a deadline (2-4 weeks?) to submit anything they have spotted.

Because a $99 tablet is cheap, as in garbage, and not worth the energy put into making it. Trees get re-planted by the paper companies usually 2-to-1 or 3-to-1 when harvested.
I hate when people ignore simple facts.
This is a false propaganda to shut people up - they are all re-planting.
Overall, a lot more trees are disappearing, than get planted each year (ratio is still alarming, at about 150km^2 every day). Every piece of paper counts, and people who donāt care about nature, are the primary cause of degradation, and people who print that ONE more page, which doesnāt need to be printed, simply donāt care - no excuses, this is a game we talk about here, not a life saver. What are you gonna do when the game stops working, which will happen eventually. Are you going to bin the manual, or keep it forever and ever? In a tablet, you can simply delete it, with no harm to nature.
Also keep in mind that a lot of energy is going into paper printing.
Maybe $99 is not the best to buy, but it was just to point out that people should change habits sooner than later, and stop being stubborn and selfish. -
Aha,so you want to make sure you donāt use too much paper when you go for a number 2.

okay gents.
The dash one is soon to be ready on lulu.
Itās 189 pages, A4 format, Perfect bound (glued).I am making two versions:

2. B&W - printing price is estimated around 9-12ā¬
Both prices ex shippingIāll order the first copy and see it in the flesh before giving out the links to order it.
In the meantime, hereās the cover artwork -

Maybe $99 is not the best to buy, but it was just to point out that people should change habits sooner than later, and stop being stubborn and selfish.OK heres one thought to considerā¦ā¦ Paper when disposed of will decompose or is very easily recycled. Your $99 tablet or any tablet at the minute will not decompose very well, nor is it recycled very well. I thank you for your point of view, however this is a Flight sim forum after all. You cant play rock, paper, scissors with a tablet now can you?

You cant play rock, paper, scissors with a tablet now can you?
Sure you can, it just becomes: Rock, tablet, scissors. Rock crushes tablet and scissors, scissors scratch tabletā¦ and the tablet just loses every round. Itās a conspiracy!!
On topic, i threw together a bunch of the PDF documents at lulu.com a few days after i read the original post and received my copy yesterday. Looks SOOOO hot (wife was unimpressed).

I was going to print out a few manuals and offer them up for the price of materials + shipping, but I like my manuals nice and sturdy so Iāll be waiting for Red Dog to finalize his work and will be getting my copy as well.
Suggestion: maybe a version number on the manuals? Iām sure things will change later on and would be nice to be able to keep track whether the manual is still up to date and what errata is needed.
-
Hey Red Dog, will we be able to choose the binding option? In something like that, itās way easier to use spiral bound.
Cheers, Mark

Yep Ice, I implemented version numbers. That soon to be published is V1.0 for 4.32.
I am already working on the v 1.33 wich is going to be published for BMS 4.33, but at current rate it is not going to be any time soonHey Red Dog, will we be able to choose the binding option? In something like that, itās way easier to use spiral bound.
No Mark, iām afraid it wonāt be possible. I considered it but spiral is more expensive (by a bit less than 10 euros - and whatever I do there will be always guys whoād prefer that or this. I went already the extra mile to make both b&w and colour copy. I do feel colours is mandatory, but pricewise, colour is expensive. I donāt really care, but some may.)
The next publication will be my AIP BMS Korea with extra bonuses and that one will be spiral bound. IMHO it must be for charts
-
+1 to spiral boundā¦.or some form of ring bindingā¦but having a book or manual that lays open flat on your desk is pricelessā¦
your discretion on the binding Red Dog, but a new paperback is folded closed so tight that its not good at being a desktop manualā¦for ppl that want to sit on the toilet and read its ok, but you still end up folding it overā¦lolā¦think about this as you handle the first onesā¦āthe first one you get that lays open perfectly on any page will be your favoriteāā¦

Yes Spiral bound for the charts is a must. Looking forward to whatever You make available on Lulu; Red Dog. I hope we donāt have to wait as long as 2-3 BMS weeks.
