Arty Particle System Modifications…
-
OK Ram, thought so….guess what…I did not back up my old .ini file before I installed the Maxpower mod…D’oh!! Can anyone post me their virgin copy? cheers, Mark
the virgin (definitely not virgin by me… ) copy of the file is inside the patch. U just have to expand the package and in there in the folders u will find the particle.sys.orig this is the original ini file. Take care cause there are two of them. one is the stock BMS file and one is the IT-BMS one. they are on separate folders.
But sure Ram’s file is the easiest way.
And once again Backup Falcon at crucial points. Like clean install… Using RAR takes about 2GB for the full version with theaters on… I have: Aegean / IT-BMS / Sinai and it all ends to about 6GB of rar.
So having some backups goes to 10 GB’s not much of a big deal… -
Thanks Ram, will snag it later when I get in from work……best , Mark

No problem. Seems you weren’t the only one who needed it. It’s been downloaded 7 times.
GUYS, back up before you do any, and I mean any work in FALCON!!!

No u don’t make an error.
u have your particle system file altered… this is why u get that. prolly the same problem I fased… also have in mind if u have Israel or Sinai u might have fubared this also as far as the FM files… -
Heads Up guys this mod ain’t Update 4 compatible…
I also updated the first post on this thread.
Stay tuned a compatible version will come out, soon I hope…
-
Heads Up
I just uploaded an Update 4 compatible version.
First Post updated.
Enjoy… and sorry for the delay.
-
at last….you’re the man
thanks ARTY… -
So now I have to ask, is this Update 5 or 6 compatible?
-
yes it is all the way.
-
just for reference and how round the flare is…
As u see clearly NOT round At All…
-
Arty, I have only one thing to tell you, ever since I started messing with PS, since the happy days of RV until today where from time to time I still get the bug to change this or improve that, all I can tell is that there is absolutely no way to be “right” or “wrong”
The same effect in RL can be in one case totally different than another, same bomb explosion in same area, or same “simple” flare effect can look SO different that you wouldn’t believe. For every picture of such rectangular shaped flare, I can give you a dozen with round flares, I can give you another dozen with “long” flare and a dozen with short flare, some with sparks, some hardly with any light, and some with light almost like a small sun.
In one sentence, you will never find the “perfect” thing. So what we have is what we think is best to be in the sim. No right or wrong, I bet if anyone here would have thought of each effect, we could build a million versions of the PS.ini, any would look different than the other, and all would be correct
-
I-Hawk I understand u. I don’t have anything to divide with anyone neither to play it guru or whatever. I have also seen many many vids for flares and thousands of pics to understand the thing…
Some one in a thread told me that the flare light source is round and this is the correct and mine (based on the ones from OF sorry cant recall the creator now) are totally wrong.
I left it there.
I asked for real pilots testimonies or better photos or vids but none…
yesterday Demo Zeus performed a show in my town and this photographer captured those frames that clearly show how the flare light ignites and how it develops.
Sure weather conditions speeds and many other factors play their role but I believe the teardrop shape is way more close to real then the round one. In fact I have many ultra high resolution photos that for sure inspired me to update the flare and make it even more representative. There is no such thing as perfect. -
I have said this before, but it merits repeating:
A camera does not record events the same as the human eye.
In the flare pics you posted Arty, the flare is noticeably longer in the second pic than the first. This is not because the flare “grew,” but rather that the flare is decelerating compared with the camera that continued following the plane. The flare is indeed round (tear shaped is a better description due to wind shear), but the camera will not record its true shape unless the camera pans with the flare remaining in the center of the frame. Even then, the camera (video or still) would need a high shutter speed to accurately reflect what he human eye will see.
-
Nope Pumpy the flare container can’t grow.
But the flare flame-light yes it does. In the first pic it’s between no flame and full flame effect… on the second pic looks like it reached the full flame capacity…Yes it would need faster shutter speed but regardless what it’s not a still candle or a light bulb inside glass… it’s a flame in the air traveling at high speed affected by way to many factors and it can’t be round.
And if the high speed shutter (like +4000) it would be totally pointless cause the human eye doesn’t work that fast and I don’t believe we want to represent and see a 1/5000 effects… but the flow of an effect as we experience it in real conditions. This is how I see it… if u want to see effects like a frame of a 1/5000 capture then u will see them all in slow motion or unreal.
Also in the pic the flame is obvious that goes out like this:
||->
||-> vertical axis.and not like this:
_____->
_____ -> Horizontal axis. And it’s logical to cover bigger area as the engine end and fool the missile…
Also it’s obvious if u examine the micro flares - particles that are clearly shown covering the whole vertical axis as the flame starts to burst.
-
Cool, is it a rod?, so maybe that’s why they seem to rumble a bit in air.
-
Cool, is it a rod?
I could show you my rod.
But - Pumpy would have to check if it was “noticeably longer” or “grew”.
Then - Arty would be checking if it was growing along a “vertical” or “horizontal” axis.It would be quite traumatic.
-
They need to use the Large Hadron Collider to prove if your rod actually exist to begin with and then if it does it will just be pure theory if it can grow, but it would be a interesting discussion to follow, I’ll give you that
