Working on this very first squadron right now, I haven’t done anything new in forever and just throwing all the old stuff out now feels wrong…somehow

Some progress…this should be a ****in’ beauty!
More on that over the weekend…

For the last time Mike, yes, you mentioned it a gazillion times all throughout this topic…
We know you’re in love with the Tophatters! -
WIP of VF-2 Bossbird BuNo 165202. Errors on ventral fins, front fuselage stripes, some shadows and the anti-glare…
-
Some more impressions of this bird that I like waaay more than I expected…
-
Finished product…99% of errors fixed. I had to do that twice over as I failed to save anything and then crashed PS with a wrong button combination >

WIP of VF-1 Bossbird BuNo 158979 (very early airframe), like the VF-2 bird late 70s era, deployment aboard Forrestal, Enterprise, Ranger among others. This is basically finished except for a few minor issues and the drop tank stencils which are way too large…
I don’t know if this was always implemented but I just noticed the beautiiiful crew and cockpit design/animations, the authentic A model engine nozzles and even the spoilers extending out of the glove vane…great stuff!

Final version…these two birds are the first original work I’ve done this year, hard to believe it’s almost June already.
I’ve decided to release everything in packs of 6 skins at a time cuz I absolutely will never get finished if I try to release it all at the same time. With each skin I go to intensive lengths (most definitely too far, no doubt in my mind) to ensure authenticity, so the stencils, BuNos, colors, little details, Modex numbers, deployment cycles etc. are all checked against real life photos from the era and all other non-photographic sources that are available (and I got quite the Tomcat database after 7 years ). This means this still is the most extensive and authentic collection of Tomcat skins on the net (and I’ve checked it against everything on every platform that’s out there, not to prove my skins but rather as potential source material during research) but it also means none of it is available to you guys. That seems like a nice little project of mine that doesn’t help anyone accomplish anything
So I’ll start releasing what’s finished as it gets finished one set at a time for the three slots (A/B/D) and I’ll try to have the right jets stick to the right slots (everyone’s free to rename the skinfiles to fit whatever slot of course) and eventually it’ll all be released. I like it better this way anyway cuz it also increases usability and might open this up to ppl who don’t give a rat’s ass about this jet and then find themselves appreciating the immersion in a theater where the tomcat is present and its skin complies to the particular setting.
I used to state to not work on any new (Tomcat or other) skins while compiling everything and putting it up for download but that’s a futile thing to say - if I find a new source or see a new jet I’d like to skin, I’ll do it anyway
Laters ya crazies!

Beautiful art work !

They are looking sooo nice, Pete.
I had to do that twice over as I failed to save anything and then crashed PS with a wrong button combination >
While doing GFX, one thing I’ve learned quickly was … save often, better save often and incrementally.
Ohh and don’t forget to backup your work on another data medium periodically.
(would be a shame if you would lost your work due to a HDD failure)Cheers,

Thanks for your efforts in this project stingray_SIX_TWO!! Each image is a masterpiece!!!
Wonderful job well deserved for a regent like the Tomcat!!
Keep the legacy alive!! !Hope after this you get ideas for new skins!

Haha, yeah I hear that! Everything is is triple backed up:)
For the VF-2 bird I did all the artwork first and then applied it to the textures as opposed to moving from section to section which I usually do. That worked out so well that I !@@#$$%&&* (forgot to save) and I hadn’t set up PS to autosave…
