Anyone tested leap Motion with BMS?
-
IMHO Leap has potential,
.
With the touchless app, control is very easy and intuitive, but BMS does not record the clicksIn the other hand, using āgamewaveā, control is a bit clumsy, and controlling the clicks is virtually impossible, but it registered in the game.
I thing the ātouchlessā control method is better, and if it would have been able to interact it would have been great, but everything is still in a very early stage, and the apps should be getting better.
Did you try the Airnav app that Arty is using? It is over at the Leap Motion forums.

AirKey is the name of the application.
Here is the Link at sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/airkey/
And here is the link from the Leapmotion forum: https://forums.leapmotion.com/showthread.php?3547-AirKey-gesture-based-hotkey-mapping-%28-basic-mouse-control%29Wowā¦ I was on version 01 or Airkey and now it went to 03, here is the change log:
CHANGELOG:
v0.3 (more details here)Multifinger support! If you perform gestures with more than 3 fingers outstretched (= your whole hand), you can assign different hotkeys to the gestures.
Thumb-Trigger mode reversable.
ScreenTap and KeyTap enabled in Mouse Mode, which different actions possible.
Customizable delay after each command. If you get multiple executions of the same gesture, try increasing it.
2 commands available in the program: Reloading the config-file (ie after modification), and hiding the console window on command.v0.2 (more details here)
Support for lefthanded users (set āLefthandedā in the config file to true).
Mouseclick/Mousepress distinction by moving the thumb downwards/just horizontally added.
Change in the keepPressed-behaviour in the settings file.Well since the apps and drivers are in an early stageā¦ and with what I see Iām more then satisfied then sure future will be great on it.
Also they started the UIā¦ first release of it ready and freeā¦ http://www.irishacts.com/misc/airkey-gui.exe
And a vid for it: http://www.irishacts.com/misc/airkey.htm

I got mine today. Just a real limited time so far.
Good- Tracks nicely, FUN, reminds a lot of the original TrackIR in that you see how much potential it has once the software and maybe another generation of hardware has improved (the TrackIR has came a loooonnnngggg way guys)
Bad- having a hard time clicking with Airkey, but also trying to use it left handed.
Ugly- Had two BSODs, one in Airkey while in Falcon, one playing Dropchord
-
wow no bsod here. yea me to wonder how will it be left handed usage.
About click change it. I believe the alternative having the thumb connected to palm and extending it to click must be way better then the gun trick - trigger. -
@arty - right click on a touch screen is press and hold with first finger, tap with second.

Yep - Iām trying to train left handed as thats my mouse hand - make sure you set the xml file to true in the correct place for left hand support - something I forgot
No BSODs but the service wont auto start - have to start it manually.
Tried Touchless which isnt great - then GAMEWAVE also- which is accurate but seems inadequate with the current control setup for Falcon / DCS pits
-
I believe I set it up to be left handed in the .xml using the GUI, but maybe not. Again didnāt get much time with it. Probably tonight.
-
Update: Still getting BSODs, although havenāt had anymore in AirKey+Falcon yet, BUT upgrading to .4 (which is now out!) caused me to lose mouse clicks in the 3d world and going back to .3 didnāt solve the problem. I am getting pretty natural at Airkey in Windows and the Falcon UI, I just wish I could figure out how to get it to double click. I wish I could make it further in Dropchord, itās pretty fun for about the 2 levels Ican get through before BSOD.
-
Snake122 what is the stop message in the BSOD? look it up in microsoft Technet, it will tell u what the problem is.
-
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033Additional information about the problem:

OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 256_1Not sure which info to put where on technet, itās really the first time Iāve had a BSOD with Win7.
-
The BCCode is the Stop code I believe.
-
Yeah that would sound right, the text on BSOD said that it was a CPU core timeout now that I read that. So itās another hardware problem that the LeapMotion is exacerbating?
-
There is an article about BSODs being generated by USB debug cables with this stop code. Iām wondering if the Leap device is sending some non-kosher signals back.
And then thereās this:
b) a driver whose activity is causing the target processor to lock up
Pretty sure itās the Leapās fault if your rig is otherwise stable.

Well guys Iām back from vacations and just gave a try the new Airkey 0.6b.
I also customized it with the new gui program. Basic customization, sensitivity, left hand and left/right mouse clickā¦ nothing else.
Now I have it only Left Handed and switched the click function. Instead of doing the trigger thing I have the thumb on the palm and when I extent it it clicks. Itās way more stable.
I must figure out some more gestures like the Alt+I for the cutoff and the mouse wheel up/down (damn now it hit meā¦ lol it has a rotate cw/ccw lol ).
Iām uploading a new video. This is the actual third time Iām using leapmotion on BMS. Second time left handedā¦ I thought it would be impossible as Iām right handedā¦ but I fount it way easy. What I must get used is to have my hand in the scope of the sensorā¦ and also maybe alter the sensor position and put it in an angle like 30-40 degrees and have my palm not parallel to the desk but verticalā¦ some guys say it works better and faster.
Lets hope soon enough the dev will implement the auto hand switch or have a gesture to do soā¦ He said he will, so future will be better.
The vid needs 200 minutes to uploadā¦ will post it ASAP.
-
ok here it isā¦
-
I think this is great. You canāt compare it directly to a mouse, which has been refined for 30 years. This will surely become better very quickly. I still canāt stand touch screens at all and would much prefer this kind of system.
-
My BSODs may be solved, Iāve got some good help over at their forums. I switched to the Catalyst 13.8 Beta drivers and now Dropchord is much more stable but havenāt been to update Airkey and try it out in Falcon.
I could see myself using Airkey in Windows near full time with the addition of the double click.
-
hmmm version 0.8 of Airkey is outā¦
those guys are way fast and goodā¦v0.8:
Touchscreen mode - make any surface into a touchscreen. Details can be found in the link above.
Changes in the way the pointing finger is stored, should be more robust.
Start menu not movable any more.
Hand detection/gestures only in the center of the field of view of the Leap (InteractionBox). And two videosā¦ first the gestures:
Second the table-tablet mode:
-
And the dev says this also should work:
Just WOWā¦
-
Wonder what it would do if you sneeze violently while gesturing
Warning. Warning.
