FO - Battle For Balkans Theater
-
To Dema and Tsanis: +100 here gladly IMHO!:D
Not to mention the same for the newcoming Aegean theater, of course.
Best regards,
-
@Residual8effects:
It will also over write any custom particlesys.ini you may have, so I would recommend a separate install from your normal fly install if you are running anything custom. We at the 1st VFW have instructed our members to use a separate install.
False, Battle for Balkans does not overwrite BMS particlesys.ini.
For the record, the only BMS file which is overwritten is the SU27 FM dat.
All other files are “added” and did not previously exist, and are limited to the new pits (not over written), and 2 dats (Su27, 1 dat + 1 afm dat)
To all those who are worried about bonking your install with BfB, simply back up the SU27 Dat file under simdata as it’s the only file modified from the stock files.
-
And after the wrong of not letting the user to know about it… is there an F4patch so the user to switch back and forth? or the user has to uninstall and reinstall each time he wants to fly mp for other theater?
Don’t see the point of this. If anyone is worried just back up the 2 FM dats for the Su-27.
So Su27 dat files and particle sys file… what else?
Only the standard Su27 dat file. No idea why users are claiming particlesys was modified since it wasn’t.
Also the member that created the Aegean v2.1 for 320FW installer has update capabilities and no virus warnings from no one…
Any other non related facts to share? TBH I’ve always had a hard time spelling Aegean.
could u please upload a simple rar with the files so to see and avoid the problems? I don’t want to create a new Falcon install just to compare and find the files.
Ask your friend above who made the Aegean installer to check for you.
oh thanx for the hard work and efforts but those would be a good thing to be looked and fixed.
Thanks followed by the word “but” is generally passive aggressive in nature, but let’s just pretend you said “nice job guys, really like it.”
Damn I must hurry and inform my squad members… this will totally fubar our setup…
Seriously, dude. Seriously.

Good to know what is being changed. Thx for the info.

Does this theatre includes a real structure of the Aviano AB? Or it uses the default korean one?

I just wish this had been said in the theater release thread(s) (not in some random model development thread). Would’ve prevented a lot of hemming-and-hawing, confusion, consternation and the associated un-necessary mis-understandings.
BTW, if I do this: “…. simply back up the SU27 Dat file under simdata as it’s the only file modified from the stock files” and fly BfB on the FO server, what happens? Problem or no problem?

Okay a Few Clarifications…
1. Whether the Su-27.dat File is changed or not does not matter. Because Hardly anyone flies the Su-27 without the Cockpit Installed. It is most of the time Flown just by the AI, and it shouldn’t change its behavior much, if at all…
2. The Su-27 Cockpit Package that Nizmo and MetalHead will release to the public will Contain the very same Su-27.dat file provided in Balkans.
3. We are not making changes to the F-16 or any other Important FM, obviously, though some who are proselytizing in this thread have done so in the past.
4. Particlesys.ini file has not been changed, it was changed for the better in Red Flag
5. It does not matter if people have different Su-27.dat file when playing Korea it will not affect anything.
6. We will update the Installer with the ability to backup the old version, and as a stop gap we will put the Su-27.dat file up shortly for people to re download to their backups.

Mystic

It is a privilige to fly this! Thank you all.

@Khronik chill out m8…
In the same post u say “backup the 2 FM dats” and then “Only the standard Su27 dat file.”The non related fact is cause it was written that the virus alert is cause of the update feature that the BFB installer has. Our Installer also has update features created with .net4 but no alert for virus… maybe our guy could share some info and help…
Ask my friend above??? the member that created the Aegean installer didn’t post in this thread. R u jumping to hasty conclusions here?
About particlesys.ini someone posts it’s changed… so this why I asked so to give u the opportunity and clear it out…
Yes always some FO members mistakenly took, and seems they continue to do so, my posts as aggressive to them. Like I have to split something with them, a big fortune or a treasure…
So Let me rephrase this for u.
U guys rule… u r the best… your work is the best. My respect for your work and enthusiasm has no words to be expressed by, it would be nice if this minor detail could be looked over please.
Peace… love… and Robin Hood…

Okay a Few Clarifications…

First thanx for your hard work and the public release. I wish I could share Aegean publicly like u do guys…
So jumping back and forth from Redflag and BFB will change the particlesys.ini how can this be done? u have to manually backup and copy paste the files?
About 5. r u totally sure? let’s say we both connect and fly SU-27’s u have the new one I have the old. Wouldn’t this cause problems maybe not connection issues but different data usage? It would be like flying 2 different aircraft. About connection I don’t know… maybe ppl with more knowledge could shed some light on it.
Also in case I change to the new and then participate to a stock Korea PvP event wouldn’t that be like cheating? Finally about SP and MP. SP ok u fly solo MP is limited to connect only to FO server? I mean can someone host as a pvp server? is it like the BFS?

Yes it is a False Positive……Samme Warring here
-
@ Arty yes you can host your own server in SP. And for everyone who is getting the Virus warning there is no Virus in there i some time get that when i install BMS patches . Anyways if you still have a doubt just don’t install it very simple.

1. I already Told you, BFB does not touch the particlesys.ini file.
2. How are you going to fly Su-27??? Please tell me… with F-16 Cockpit?? Because so far the very people who are developing the Su-27 pit and fm have been working with us on this project… So in effect if you plan to download and integrate the new Su-27 from Nizmo and Metalhead they will have these Su27.dat fm files too and they would be exactly same as the one BFB
3. Anyone can host a PVP server if they choose to do so. There is a SP version provided if you want to do that.

Why was the HMS removed from the F-15C?
Very nice looking theater though best looking one by far
-
First missions in SP campaing:
-Red ships are way too passive? I got two krivaks with my wingman, just AGM-65g’s shot from visual range ? And last mission i just fly over red cruiser task force and they won’t shoot me ? I was 22000ft both times.
-Night tiles are bit weird looking from low , not alinged with airfields etc…

lol I thought the pit is there too… and made me wonder, those guys didn’t say that they finished it.
-
Nizmo and Metalhead Have been huge part of this project… More than people know… They spent hours with us integrating it in to BFB.

Haukka the Campaign is meant to be played with the ADA and Pilot rating at Ace. Try that it should make them more aggressive.
During testing They were beasts to get near… -
We got a great Balkans theater now with a campaign and the FO guys spent months/years working on it so much appreciation, and thanks for clearing that up Mystic.
I think the only takeaway was that (for any mod) we just ask that there is some sort of notification when a file is going to be overwritten. Again, awesome theater and thank you thank you.

Sorry Mystic I disagree. I’m having a hard time to understand why you underestimate this issue instead of just posting a clear message about the replaced FM file. It does matter. When you have a different FM it’s you have a different global file. We do not have the code in front of us to say extacyl how it affects besides the obvious cases like two people flying the SY27 with different FM files. I’ve seen remarks about anything from CTDs to black sky becase of different FMs. And while there wasn’t enough data or cases to say it’s absolotely the case why risk it?
Look at what you wrote - “Hardly anyone flies”, “most of the time Flown just by the AI”, " shouldn’t change its behavior much, if at all" - as I said there should not be such thing as an install that is ‘a little’ MP incompatible or MP incompatible only under some circumstances so it’s ‘OK’. Imagine many modders slightly modifying a global file each, and we would have a nightmare trying to maintain a stable MP environment. You are running the largest BMS server you should know that. And yet you cannot assume everyone will install BFB, and that the only purpose of their install will be to play BFB. People with BFB will want to connect with people who don’t have it and fly in other theaters. And now we have hundreds of installs which are MP incompatible with the stock 4.32.7 install. More or less it doesn’t matter.
2. The Su-27 Cockpit Package that Nizmo and MetalHead will release to the public will Contain the very same Su-27.dat file provided in Balkans.
Please make it clear in the package the a FM file will be replaced.
3. We are not making changes to the F-16 or any other Important FM, obviously, though some who are proselytizing in this thread have done so in the past.
You are referring to me, and unfairly making sound like I changed a FM file in the same way that the BFB installer which is not true. I stated in the past I will never change a global file without authorization. In Israel this FM patch is OPTIONAL (off by default), and the user gets plenty of warnings and explanations what to do and what not to do! This is what I was asking, not that you take out the new SU27 FM. BTW we only changed chaff / flare values, TGP, etc, never performance data. You have created a completely new FM.
5. It does not matter if people have different Su-27.dat file when playing Korea it will not affect anything.
It does as I said; Even if only for the scenario of two people flying the SU27 with different FM, the AI is affected too. And maybe there are some other ‘deeper’ meanings. If people do it often or not it does not matter.
Again no such thing as a little MP incompatible install.6. We will update the Installer with the ability to backup the old version, and as a stop gap we will put the Su-27.dat file up shortly for people to re download to their backups.
Great thank you.
