TGP Bombing Question
-
I have flown a quite few BAI missions where finding moving targets is fairly easy using GMT radar of course. Even a few where stationary vehicles I have been able discern on the GM radar using the TGP to clarify. However, there have been a few where I am vectored to a target heading and distance, my AI of course bomb something, but I cannot find a thing. Usually there is nothing moving , and there are so many GM hits that even going to DBS2 and using the zoom, I see nothing to lock onto except buildings (at an airstrip for example). I am guessing there are enemy infantry positions there though. Does anyone have pictures of what these positions may look like, or offer some suggestions, as I have no clue. Thanks.

If GMT is blank then you have to go with GM and discern targets there. Suggestion is to look for thin lines which usually point out columns to be declared as friendly or not. Also have the TGP up on the right MFD zoomed in and FCR on left so that as you slew around in FCR you can get a visual indication on the TGP if you have a target or just a building.

Since you mention infantry, if the target happens to be AK47, SA7 etc., I’m not sure if they show up on radar. Maybe someone can clarify.

Thank you Stubbies, that is exactly what I do, but I still see nothing even as I slew the cursor on the TGP around. I see buildings of course, but are there certain things I should look for if it is infantry?

You could also ask your wingman for some info using the datalink, assuming you’ve set it up during RAMP and taxi.
The exact location escapes me right now, it’s somewhere in the wingman menu (“w” key).
Cheers, Uwe

I don’t think infantry get many bombs dropped on them UNLESS co-orrdinates or distance and bearing from an identifiable structure etc have been passed to pilot. Infantry vehicles though should show up as the tinyest pixel dots on fcr. Easy to miss

Thanks Hoover, I have indeed done that too, and yet still cannot see what they are targeting.

Cardboard men are tricky to spot, especially edgeways. I often find them easier to spot with the TGP in WFOV; they seem to disappear in NFOV.
Of course when they are moving (they appear to be floating or gliding across the terrain) they are easier to spot, both on FCR and TGP.

Using expanded gmt or gm really helps

I find zooming in and out with the TGP helps too. Some objects appear more clear at different levels of magnification. Some even disappear completely. Slow methodical searching of the area one square at a time helps. The terrain is very good at hiding the units. The shade of grey is a little bit different though. Looking for that particular shade helps filter out all the other stuff.
