FO - Battle For Balkans Theater
-
I am confused… the torrent says version 1.12. In this thread, the video says 3.0. Is that the texture pack or the theater? https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?12025-New-Texture-Balkans
It’s two different theaters. “Balkans” is not “Battle of Balkans”.

Thanks EDIT It was the standard Balkans I had problems with, downloading this one now!

How is BfB 1.12 is a one-click installer? When I unzip it I get two files, an application and a SRC file. Clicking on either of them does not install BFB. What is the Process?
I know my way around a computer, but same question here…
I’ve unzipped the exe to a random folder/desktop/Falcon-folder, am running it on an admin-account with the specific RMB-command to Run As Administrator and even tried a few compatibility modes.Whenever I try to start the exe, I get a warning saying:
“Can not access the specified device, path, or file get. You may not have access permissions to the item.”Thinking it might just have been a corrupt download, I tried downloading again, but never hit any luck…
Also: AFAIK, BfB 1.12 is the latest and only version currently available since Nov 30 2013, yet for some reason, I have a “setup_Battle_for_Balkans_1.2.1.exe” (995Mb) on my computer, which - according to the file information - was created (by developers, I suppose?) on Jan 05 2014 and downloaded by me on Jan 10 2014. Did I miss something, or have I travelled in time and sent myself an update to 1.12 already?

They (FO) released a patch which shows 1.2.1 although it does not update the version on the screen. Here is a link to the notes on the patch install in the first post.

Can’t see it…

The 1.2.1 patch was not official and was a stop gap solution….

Be sure anti-virus isn’t running or has flagged the installer exe

Guys, I read in this topic that the installer can trigger anti-virus software, and should be considered a false positive. During my latest full scan (prior to trying the install) my computer was clear, apart from the warning about the BfB-archive, which I chose to ignore as suggested here.
I wouldn’t say I’m 100% certain it’s related, but just fyi, I do have a computer issue now, with my computer sending messages over Skype some 20 minutes after I shut down my computer. I haven’t tried installing anything other than BfB, and have only visited “known” sites since my last scan, so at this moment, I’m prone to think that somehow, the BfB does not longer contain a false, but a real positive…
I’m currently running another full scan for viruses, malware and adware and will keep you updated.

Not sure how Skype can send messages 20 minutes after you shut down a computer. But remember that Skype itself is spyware. (strange behaviour could be caused by Skype itself)

Neither do I, but I’ve had no issues whatsoever until this week, despite having Skype installed for as long as I can remember…
Haven’t done much on my computer either, as I’m still having exams and spend +80% of my awake time studying… That’s why I can relatively easily recount what I have and haven’t done on my computer, and there’s nothing out of the ordinary, apart from trying to install the BfB theater. The few things I have downloaded since came from trusted sources or were scanned for viruses, as good habit, before activating/opening them as well. (not necessarily a 100% fail-safe system, I know)
Anyway, scans are complete now:
Malwarebytes and adwcleaner came up clean regarding BfB (did find a few minor other issues, but nothing big, apart from an Trojan in BMS 4.32 Update 2.exe - found by MWB ) and anti-virus is giving me the same warnings as it did before…Guess I’ll have to wait and see a bit, to see if the problem persists.

This is normal Skype behavior.
Skype will send all messages (history) when you sign in on another system using the same account and/or you (or the person you were speaking with) comes online.
We release our theaters to the public and share them amongst ourselves. Injecting them with trojans is not only absurd, but would be extremely damaging to our community.

Oooooh, ok.
How stupid of me to forget about the dozens of people I spoke to about opening a credit card account, because it’s absolutely free and so easy to make thousands of dollars per week like that. Must be the exam stress, I guess. Sorry.

Haha, Skype is spyware…it absolutely is, you have to watch it very closely.

Hello.
I’m flying F-16 C Block 52 and I’ve got a question about hardpoint restrictions when it comes to choosing munitions.
Why I can’t put AIM-120 on hardpoints 3 and 7? Why I can put AIM-9X only on h-points 2 and 8? Is it expected behavior (if so, why?) or a bug? -
I have a silly question. Is there also a SP campaign?

Yes. It’s an option under SELECT THEATRE. If i’m not mistaken, you’ll have to jump around some of the bases to turn on squadrons that you want controlled by the AI as many default to human controlled for the MP events.

Okay, I’ve currently done 3 attempts at installing BfB…
1st attempt = Broke Skype. Set computer back with a restore point. Ran a mal-/spyware and virus check, then waited a few days to make sure the problem was fixed, and it was.
2nd attempt = Broke iTunes. New System Restore Points are no longer made and unable to complete older restore points. Had to completely uninstall Apple software, clean up every single registry linked to iTunes, then download the latest version from the site and then install it again.
Uninstalled BfB, ran another mal-/spyware and virus check, waited a few days again, but nothing else popped up. Unfortunately, I’m still stuck with a library from March 2012.3rd attempt = Broke BMS !! BMS fails to launch, WDP can’t find Korea, MC can’t find camo.cfg and then gives an error. I’ve tried to change the theater through my registry, but that didn’t do any good.
Seriously, I haven’t had ANY issues with this computer in the 3-4 years that I’ve had it. Now I make 3 attempts at installing your theater, and I run into 3 issues, so obviously SOMETHING is wrong here, and I’d like to know what it is.
I know how to work with a computer, how to execute a simple installer and what not, so I also ask you to not respond with “It works for [insert huge number here] members, you must be doing something wrong” because I’m 100% certain that is NOT the case…

Trying to troubleshoot a computer (I assume PC) running a 3-4 year old install of windows x would be more trouble than it’s worth.
If I were in your position, I’d forget about BfB for the time being, and then wait for the examination period to end. Then, I’d reserve a couple of days to backup/move/preserve data, wipe everything and re-install windows, with the latest drivers and software.
I know it’s a PITA, but I’d venture to say it’s worth it in the long run.
Good luck with your exams.

Broke Skype? I believe we touched on this already. As stated not possible and not related. Look elsewhere.
installer Broke iTunes? Again, no relation possible. Installer does not modify system files or anything else outside of the BMS path, I can assure you.
Sounds like your computer needs a re-install of the OS, or has some sort of HD / Mem corruption going on.
The fact that you are tying them all to our installer is questionable as most of the issues you are claiming to have, are areas of the system the installer is not aware of and does not modify. More co-incidental than not.
I’m starting to think you may have some issue with UAC or VirtualStore causing registry conflicts with BMS. Ie. BMS installer & BFB installer write to registry under the standard key, but are can be redirected by VirtualStore to a system path (if active). Just an idea…
This generally occurs when you have UAC enabled, and are installing to a protected path such as C:…
In any event I’d suggest making a new small partition to test on and install your OS and BMS on that and see if your still having issues.
Considering the multitude of issues with your system with unrelated software I’d say something is hosed somewhere, but nothing to do with the installer.
I’m 100% certain that is NOT the case…
100% certain? Seems a tad over optimistic.
