N00b rudder question
-
Just had a set of Thrustmaster rudders delivered, the new ones they’ve just released and I gotta say it’s more difficult than I thought - I love the left/right toe breaking option but its the yaw bit I’m trouble with, I’m currently pushing the corresponding pedal forward to move in that direction i.e left pedal forward / right pedal back yaws me to the left however I tried swapping and it actually felt more natural reversed.
I know its likely just me getting used to them however I’d like to know if:
Does anyone else fly with their yaw input reversed?
Is there a reverse option in real life?
Are rotary and fixed wing exactly the same?Basically I don’t want to get into any bad habits, for the sake of realism should I leave it as it?
Thanks ion advance

I believe that is correct, pushing the left pedal moves the rudder to the left there for the airflow hits the tail yawing it right, which in turn puts the nose left. I think.

Press left pedal, nose goes left.
Press right pedal, nose goes right. Is there a reverse option in real life?
Of course not.
Are rotary and fixed wing exactly the same?
Yes.
Basically I don’t want to get into any bad habits, for the sake of realism should I leave it as it?
Yes you should.

Yes it is correct movement, left rudder application moves the right pedal back. I tell students this is one way to confirm that you are pressing rudder and not the brake. This movement dates back when it is was just a simple bar. IRL, most aircraft pedals don’t have your whole foot on the pedal, you rest heels on the floor. I think this feels more natural to me, but that may just be due to all my real flight time with heels on the floor.

…just keep thinking - “it’s an airplane, not a tricycle” and you should keep things straight…er…turning…er…yawed…correctly.
