AGM88 from high alt strangeness :O

Also what happened after TTL time expired? Self destruction?
Most likely yeah.
Not sure 200 seconds are enough to provide a > 100 km shot
Well, the max range shot at about 20-25 000ft is what-30nm (I could be wrong about this one) and itās a ~3:00min (180 sec) flight time, so far it makes sense the way itās simāed, any higher alt than that and youāre extending the flight time and entering the zone past 200 secs, but this is ridiculous, it should be a flexable figure this, it should reflect the different parameters at which youāre employing
-
The missile which was landed in Bulgaria during AF went to ballistic because of internal power supply went out way before reached 100 km from the point of the launch.
Where you got this? I didnāt find anything like thatā¦. If power is lost, why didnāt destruct itself?
-
Going to jump in here with something not mentioned yet. The HARM can āloiterā. That means when the missile is fired, it can hover/orbit for a short time. I suspect that the missile uses the kinetic energy built up from launch and itās own fuel to attain speeds that enable it to loiter over the tracking area assigned to it. I do not think that is modeled, but it does support the flight time variable mookar has suggested.
-
Are you sure about that? āHarpyā could loiter, but HARMā¦.
-
I donāt think so. Maybe you think about the Alarm?
-
HARM doesnāt loiter AFAIK, ALARM could do that, though. with a parachute, i think.
-

well, the HARM has a limited ability to glide. If Target Isolate is not enabled, it can glide for an unspecified (and classified) period, or switch to another target type (flex).
would be nice to know how long/far it can glide for.
-
Not sure if this was mentioned, but there is a ābubbleā in which things materialize in the 3d world, and itās certainly not infinite. Iāve taken MAX range shots at high angels/smash before, then turned around and immediately burned out of the area. By the time the HARM shouldāve hit, Iāve already exited the bubble and the target dematerialized before the missile was able to hit. In the ACMI it showed nothing but barren landā¦.
Oh yea, something else that Iāve been retarded enough to doā¦Make sure its not behind a building?

That depends on the target bubble. I think if the missile is locked when the target wants to re-agg then itāll keep it deagged. If the missile isnāt locked I think itās possible for the target to re-agg and miss for that reason.
Hey, nice! Where can see that TV show/series?
About the missile -
Not sure 200 seconds are enough to provide a > 100 km shot (especially when the missile is doing a 45 degrees climb). Does this 200 seconds limit is verified by a pilot/technician (probably not, as it is a military secret). Also what happened after TTL time expired? Self destruction?200 sec is enough for a 73nm shot which is 135km. I think in BMS the missile simply vanishes (I canāt remember with or without explosion) when they timeout.

The HARM is reported as a āloiteringā missile but a parachute is not mentioned, the ALARM has that feature along with a parachute for sure. However the AGM88 has INS guidance anyway so it doesnāt need to loiter, even if the tgt radar shuts down the round āremembersā the last known coords and goes for them
-

That is what I was talking about. It does have a āglideā mode. Loiter might be the wrong term to use.
-
Perhaps āenduranceā mode that prefers higher TOF in acquire mode instead of minimizing TTI.
AGM-88D has GPS/INS. The earlier HARM has some gyros or something but models A-C probably didnāt have super high Pk if not guiding all the way on ARH.
-
AGM-88D has GPS/INS
Some pilots claim that models previous to the āDā also guide to coords
-
They do which is why POS-EOM shots work. Itās gotta some sort of autopilot. But a radar van is a tiny target and the warhead is tiny. I donāt think the A-C models had enough precision if not actively homing say if the emitter at five miles.

I do not know, maybe the self destruciton also was not functional. I have never heard about longer planned launch distance than 60-70 km because of kinematics and power supply limitations.
