Tried the ramp start tutorial…...
-
well, unless Im missing something here, you are the first person to bring up the virtual instructor dead horse in this thread?
So, now we are plenty on the topic unfortunately, let me help you understand why I am saying this …
@smasha:
Thank you but I would love a hands on tutorial in the pit.
I can watch this alot and still forget but if I just did that BMS tutorial 5 times a day,I reckon I would be able to memorise it.
Is the tutorial broken in BMS?
OK ,LOL I found that dam button by looking at this thank you. Will take a month I reckon of 5 times a day to learn the ramp start lol.
@SkyKnight:
Why an "A.i Instructor Cadet Training Course Program with an F-16D Shared Cockpit Mod"
If I may as this is a spin-off of another thread, I would partially agree that community feels that learning the F4 Sim at present and past has always been about reading the manual and other material, although the learning aspect and approach by some might mean reading material and watching YouTube tutorials and apply those lessons independently to acquire those skills as time permits and joining online squadrons for coaching or further training, some might work thru TE’s but still struggle thru the steep learning curve as they continue to refer to F4 Manual’s and Forum, this is where the power of an "A.i Instructor Cadet Training Program using the F-16D Shared Cockpit really helps out the F4 student a “Play as You Learn” approach!
Any individual taking on a SIM yet alone the F4 concept of sim must processes it in small steps and guided by rank and tutorials similar to “FSXGOLD” where you are challenged with missions and alike to acquire the ranks, medals and experience of commercial or combat pilots.
The original concept of F4 was this very concept taking small chunks thru the TEs for practice and working thru the campaigns for experience and pilot development and reading and studying the manuals.
What has always been missing in my opinion is a proper “CADET TRAINING PROGRAM” like in a real life Air Force like in the Jetstream Series here
eg.
Many members shy away from F4 because it’s a huge learning curve with all the reading and studying many members are in college or have families, work commitments and household responsibilities which absorb much of the time otherwise they would have spent hours with peers online or coaching methods used by squadrons.
Respecting other pilots in community who cannot for various reasons commit to a squadron flying sim over 10hrs a week, but only have a spare 1 or 2hr in the day to work thru the sim and enjoy some fun whilst they fly it.
I don’t think a bulling mentality by community members is going to help others I have had a look at some profiles some of you are engineers and even scientist congrats on your accomplishments btw but respect others because some are just still in there college years and some just work in menial job placements and dont deserve to be put down, okay, fair is fair!
In fact I was sent an email by a guy I invited here who enjoys the F4 Sim but was stumped by the huge learning curve I suggested to him to keep at it step by step read the manual and practice.
Well since then I have thought of this proposal.
As previously mentioned some members in community are scientists and aviation engineers and have been in F4 community since the original Falcon 3.0 release from Microprose and even earlier and have forgotten how hard it was to learn the F4 Sim since then it has become more complicated and 4 time the reading material since the original Falcon 4.0 Manual.
So please respect others in community who are learning or either in college or have menial job placements and/or are not that accustomed to studying or have much time to study but just want to play a Sim like F4 as hard and as it is and realistic and difficult as it is and will be with continual developments and more add-ons etc etc etc… ie new air craft (F-18 A and C Upgrade also F-16A Development ) etc etc.
I don’t see how/or that it would deviate or trouble anyone or the direction and development of the F4 Sim in fact I believe it embraces more pilots to join and be apart of the community at all levels with this “Cadet Training Component” as they develop the acquired skills in there own time and possibly join a squad at a much later date!
Also I believe it could be enhanced for further advanced training add-ons for the experienced F4 members ie. Red Flag Operations, Mission Recon Operations and situational awareness using the F-16D Shared Cockpit. etc etc
I personally have read the original F4 manual many times also C:\Falcon BMS 4.32\Docs and there is heaps to read in that folder many months of reading if not a year or two for some.
I think that’s what some in community are saying they just want to get in and play the F4 Sim, yes I know what some of you think already as I have read the posts in Forum but lucky thou its not a sim for some but all who would like to learn.
Lets not be selfish but help others and speed them thru the learning curve rather than push them away rudely!
Let efforts and ideas flourish in Community WIP/MODs if they serve the purpose of continuing F4 well into its future.
My idea is to have all the necessary skills required in the manuals to be an F4 pilot built into the F4 Sim in the proposal “The A.i Instructor Cadet Training Program” that means very little reading but the intent is … “Play as you Learn”!
A more sophisticated and realistic approach like a real life Air Force Cadet in Training in pilot school!
This would be a revolution to attract younger crowds again to Sims like F4 and BMS could be a pioneer and leader in this with this proposal.
Remember 80% is young crowd in the gaming market, the "Play as You Learn Concept is vital for F4 Sim survival and to properly train new pilots, which is less work for online F4 instructors coaching new cadets in multiplay as they have gone thru the “A.i Cadet-ship” and have passed the competency check lists and instrument rating certification, and now ranked to join online squadrons for further training and development.
The A.i Instructor Cadet Training Program Proposal Explained
- Offline Training
Utilizing an A.i Instructor F-16D Shared Cockpit approach for offline training, by simply activating the A.i Instructor program in the setup GUI menu like the current script feature which you can enable for TE’s training, although this proposal is more sophisticated and realistic.
So then you select in menu say you wish to learn and master Ramp Start’s the Training is similar to the SP3 Ramp Start Trainer with flashing switches for user to be lead or guided by the A.i instructor which also provides audio mentoring and further information as you follow instructions he might train you on brevity code and get you to repeat it as an idea also etc etc
There is also this tool:- http://pittrainer.sourceforge.net/ …. similar to SP3 Ramp Start Trainer
This could be done for, instrumentation rating, weapons deployment like LGB, Dogfights, ILS landing, Carrier operations with audio mentoring on principles and how to’s ……etc etc etc.
The method is to cross train in the same jet being the F-16D Shared Cockpit with instructor from offline to online to keep it uniform and a base application utilising the same flight model, avionics and aviation principles and ease of use for cadet like in real life of an Air force combat pilot.
- Online Training
Also for online real life coaching you can use the F-16D Cockpit with the same principle but no A.i since its live online training just the flashing switches like SP3 Ramp Start Trainer on the cadets cockpit.
A very positive approach and encouraging for new comers!
So to introduce an A.i Instructor Cadet Program for beginners and even advanced F4 simmers it would be a WIP over time say 1 or 2 years in a development.
In fact it would stop the time spent on recreating manuals for every major update or release of F4, and get more pilots trained properly and plugged into sim sooner rather than months or years down the track.
All that would be needed is checklist for Start-up Avionics and TACAN maps, Recon coordinate maps, Air Base IAP Approach Charts etc etc just the in flight essentials. More here https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?9044-BMS-Electronic-Flightbag-(Android) thanks to Kosmo.
Also you can switch between both as your still in the same F-16D Shared Cockpit that is "Offline Combat Training and Online Multiplay Operational and Procedural Training and really speed the learning curve as you play!
Its starts as a cadet training course and new BMS-F4 recruit where a specific set of needs to be successfully finalized, before commissioned to full tactical fighter pilot to be sent into a war campaign scenario.
After receiving a medal and rank of completion you perform at an Air Show to demonstrate your skills as a combat pilot. (Fun aspect)
So many possibilities here for this adding all that is proposed “HERE” also it could be used in combat for situational awareness and more just think of the possibilities.
A project over time adding more as the F4 Sim becomes more complex, i.e other AC etc etc
The Air Show demonstration competency course prepares you in these categories:-
1. Basic flight training
2. Ramp Start
3. Taxing
4. Take-off and Landing
5. Formation – Hand eye Coordination
6. Radio Comms Synchronization
7. Navigation
8. Flares
9. Stunts
10. Dogfight Simulation
11. Bomb CCIP Simulation
12. Aerobatics and Formation
Eg: Demonstration Maneuver Profiles:
1. Maximum Performance Takeoff and Climb to Cuban 8
2. High Speed Flat Pass
3. Triple Aileron Roll
4. High-G Turn
5. Four-Point Roll
6. Double Immelmann
7. Split-S
8. Falcon Turn
9. Shark’s Tooth
10. High Alpha Pass
11. Muscle Climb
12. Knife Edge Pass
13. Maximum Performance Climb with Rolls
14. Spiral Descent
15. Dedication Pass
16. Tactical Pitch-Up to Landing
17. Combat loop
18. Imelman
19. Barrel RollOnce you pass these levels of competencies of combat fighter pilot prerequisites and proven by the Air Show Demonstration, you then become a commissioned fighter pilot to take part in real war operations and start campaigns and join squadron ranks.
Also the idea is to have a proper Air Base or Air Bases in different Theaters to host as Training grounds like the Kotar Training Range and for Air Show Festival with stationed planes on runways or sectioned with proper show ground barriers, people walking around, a bombing range and a festival games rides section.
Example:-
This would be a WIP over a couple of years but worth it and this proposal to be an interesting read CADET TRAINING PROGRAM an excellent proposal for new comers this effort combined with the F-16D Cockpit would be the way to add more pilots and fun to the sim and a place for all who enjoy the F4 Concept and continue development.
Also simply add the option to play online as "BMS - Air Demonstration and Aerobatics Squad with participating teams with either customized Skins or real life SQN’s skins!
Like this ie:- Turkish Virtual Aerobatic Air Force
A little freedom to have fun and perform Aerobatics, stunts and show off your combat skills!
This would include annual competitions held for fun with a medal award system!
Now can you imagine as BMS moves along new theaters, planes and skins come along this will be a treasure.
BMS has this already on offer the Air Show feature under line 49 - Air Show Festival in Tactical Engagements Korean Theater with the Thunderbirds skin, which this area of F4 sim could offer allot more with added Skins like (Thunderbirds, Roulettes, Red Arrows, Black Knights etc), Airbases, show grounds, theaters. etc
Also can you imagine new mod’s, planes, adding colored smoke effects, Formation squads etc etc etc!
Lots of fun to be had!
I leave this proposal in Forum in hope that the BMS Dev team or someone in community who has the skills and time to create this program would take into consideration the whole view of a A.i Cadet Training Program upon becoming a fully commissioned Fighter Combat Pilot which adds value to BMS and is a good start point for new comers to the F4 Sim and experience a realistic simulated effort in becoming a F4-Fighter Pilot.
A revolution in training and advanced training in F4 Sim concepts, and BMS could be a pioneer and a leader in training concepts also!
I also would say BMS F4 would need two seater working cockpits for other A/C like the F-16D, F-18D, T-38 Talon etc Trainer Jets for cadet training purposes with proposal mentioned here if and hopefully ever implemented as it develops further. This would be for cross training purposes in a various jets.
I’m thinking ahead here say Squads that fly F-18’s and others that stick to F-16’s or other A/C like Mirages, SU’s etc etc since in MP some squads will be piloting other A/C and Blue VS Red as example is the theme in combat missions etc etc….
This will train pilots effectively and efficiently making better pilots trained on all operations, processes and procedures adhering to all competencies examinations required to be an F4 pilot sooner to reduce the learning curve due to the " A.i Cadet Training Program" as an efficient way and smart approach using a unified approach to accomplish and train F4 pilots ready to join squadrons.
Awesome!
“Ready For Graduation Time”! … … Yipppiiiiiieeeeee…
*So Request is, Can we make it a WIP for anyone with the talent to create this program and make it upgradable for new code and add-ons etc ?!?!?
PLEASE!
Or put a "Call-Out to Sim/Game community in other Forums like SimHQ and get this done many F4 members in community would love to have this proposal at least a Thumbs Up “WIP” is all that would be needed at this stage, no rush F4 is not going anywhere!
Just sharing my creative juices!
Cheers,
SkyKnight
… Better get the point of Smasha’s comedy now?

Dee-Jay, i didn’t mean especially you, sorry for the missunterstanding. You’re a moderator and you know for sure how to handle this issue, no doubt about that.
But i did read words like “douchebag” and some other not very kind words that was what i wondered about.
-
Ok. sorry but I do not know what is the side meaning of “douchebag”
Lets close the subject as we gave all what we could to help him to face that unresolvable problem.
Rather than talking about his life and his suicidal tendencies for which we can do nothing except advising a threrapy, better for him to read, re-read and re-re-read again available documents and watching video tutorial.
There will be no Virtual Instructor in BMS anyway… It will be a FFOSC feature. If still impossible for him because of real intelectual limitations (his words, not mine, right?), he will have to give up flight simulators, or start his flight on Taxi.
Just no “spams” here … And try to stay discret this time SmashTagKnightMan.
Thank you for understanding and whish you the best success in your quest of a better Falcon4BMS experience.

But i did read words like “douchebag” and some other not very kind words that was what i wondered about.
I’m just calling a spade a spade, and yes there is malice intent on his part, and yes I was correct in my assumption. Why people like skynight/smasha/whatever the crap he goes by now resort to such idiocracy just astounds me
-
well if there is malicious intent, its pretty bloody patient at that….
-
well if there is malicious intent, its pretty bloody patient at that….
Blu, I would bet money that smasha/skynight/wraith knows full well how to ramp start, he certainly has promoted freefalcon enough in the past and never seemed to have issues with doing it in that. And let’s get a show of hands of everyone that has PM’d him offering to help, cause I’m sure I’m not the only one. Instead his intent is to make BMS look “too hard” for the average joe to learn, which is a crock. Either he ain’t got nothing right on the left side of his brain and nothing left on the right side of his brain, or he’s up to his old bag of tricks. Either way at least he so far has spared us the page long monotonous repetitive rants
-
Show of hands?
Alright, I PM’d him with an offer to help, and the offer was taken up. Then walked him through a ramp start after about a half hour going over planned maneuvering for the flight and briefing (my briefings are slow/take some time). Hence my comment about being patient… someone patient enough to sit through one of my briefs then get walked through a ramp start strikes me as someone interested in beating the belief that its too hard.
So far all I have seen is DeeJays blind assertion that this guy is Skyknight, and yet apparently Deejay isnt confident enough in that belief to ban him.
Frankly unless you have something like it being the same IP address, or same computer name or something I call BS. Ive had worse students than Smasha based on the one flight we did.
-
I honestly don’t know fully how to ramp start but I’m getting there.
Removed the pilot’s legs mod successfully and track ir is working much better now.I’ve been doing 5k walks at night time and they have been beneficial.
-
If smasha is not skynight then I wholeheartedly apologize, but so far he hasn’t denied it yet, which you think he would’ve by now considering all the fuss. Same avatar on all his aliases. Coincidence? Let’s ask smasha….
-
Who is skynight?
Sorry all ,I have calmed down since I have started doing my long walks again.
I was out of line and I apologise.
-
-
LOL I have no clue who skynight is.
I live in Australia.
Where does he live?
-
LMAO I just googled skynight and bms together and found a website and he has the exact same avatar LMAO.
Purely accidental everyone.
Funny though.

And what website would that be? FFOSP perhaps? Were you afraid to post it in fear you would get banned yet again for shameless promotion? Sorry Blu, but I don’t see DJ making accusations like this without being confident in them, be it known ip addresses or the like

Sry to beat the dead horse but:
Concerning your TrackIR Problems: Find proper position for the camera, use one of the profiles that come with the software and adjust axis by axis. Takes some time but it’s definitely worth it. Would not want to fly without it anymore. If you want to use yassy’s profile and still want to have the zoom, just load the profile, and enable/tweak the z-axis and your good.
Rampstart: What i did was to watch krause’s videos several times, write down every single step and then start the jet step by step with my list. Took me a couple of days and actually helped to set up a working TrackIR profile that allows me to look wherever i want to look.
With more experience i started to combine certain steps into one step:
1: Battery power on
2: Comms -> Comm 1/2 clockwise, comm switch main, MSL and Threat Clockwise <
3: set parking brake, close canopy arm ejection seat
4: engine Start: JFS 2, wait for 25% RPM, move throttle out of idle position, wait for 70%RPM, set power to main gen
…
That way you can learn the whole thing within no time. Try to make things easier, learn step by step, combine those steps and you should be fine. Finally one thing that has really upset me:
Your throwing around words like anxiety and depression a lot, really an awfully effing lot here to try and make the people here understand how hard it’s for you and how easy for them, all this while people actually have been patient and tried to help you beyond a point where helping you seemed to be impossible since in most posts your reaction was to tell those people how hard it is for you. Why not try and actually be constructive? Find out what’s hindering your learning process and find a solution. (I guess) Most people in this forum are happy to help you with that too. Everyone has been there and has his/her experiences in learning this sim. The difference between you and them is not your depression, it’s your attitude towards problems. Instead of finding a solution you cry about the problem and make it actually more complicated than it is so it’s not your fault.
And before you tell me how hard things are for you: I am bipolar, so no need to tell me anything about depression and how hard life can be. It’s not BMS that’s beating you, your doing that by yourself.
Regards D_Fense
Edit:Oh forgot about one thing: FORGET ABOUT THE RAMPSTART TUTORIAL. It has lots of (until 4.33) unnecessary steps, that you don’t need for now. And you won’t learn anything by it. You don’t learn anything by it, because you just repeat what your told to do and have your brain on standby. That way you can do it 10 times a day and still don’t learn anything. Like others have explained: You need to understand what you are actually doing. If that takes some time for you, that’s fine. If BMS wouldn’t have that steep learning curve it wouldn’t be that satisfying. Still remember my first successfull landing, because of the several crashes that came before that landing. Just use the Take Off Te and select ramp before the loading screen starts. Ignore the tower.

to ban him.
Pointless. He certainly has few other acounts ready to be used (as he told me on FF forum) and would be back anyway.
IP: yes precisely … But not only … There are many other point that can be crosschecked.Anyway, this is not you afair sir.
You want to take him under your wing. Perfect!
From now, I will forward you directly any request and any of his post directly to you.
And you will be responsible to answer all his questions.Okay for you?

well my wings are not particularly large DeeJay, hard to fit anyone under there. Tell you what, Im gonna keep doing what Im currently doing, which is answering questions to the best of my ability when Im on the forum, regardless of who asks them. You wanna offload responsibility DeeJay, first you need to have a reason. CBF is not a reason.
you want this guys requests and posts no longer public (forwarding???) but you dont want to ban him?? Your sanity has been in some doubt a few times DJ (I jest!) but never more so than now….

Would not want to fly without it anymore. If you want to use yassy’s profile and still want to have the zoom, just load the profile, and enable/tweak the z-axis and your good.
For what it’s worth: I had the SAME problems with TrackIR when I started (note my lack of whiney posts…well, about TrackIR anyway…) and I got around this four (good) ways and 1 (bad) way:
First, adjusting my FOV (I am also running on three monitors) made a huge difference.
Second, I adjusted the view limits in the jet, actually someone else did and sent me all the files so I didn’t have to.
Third, I adjusted my axis in the TrackIR software (I still have problems with this).
Fourth, If I tilt my head to the side I can see (out of the corner of my eye) the controls that would otherwise be blocked.
Fifth, now when I am doing ramp start I disable track IR and navigate my view with the mouse and zero problems. Very easy to do, as well.
But there is some (useful) information about this problem.
