Kneemap POH 0.7.0

This is because you’re doing it wrong
First,
I never said i do this right
i do it with the capability i have at my disposal, i certainly am not a web engineer or an IT guy
and whatever way you turn the problem, it will remain hard work. even if you can code it correctly.Second
there is always a guy to tell you are doing it wrong
there’s not only one way to do things
if it’s stupid but works, it ain’t stupid and last i checked, the interactive map worksi have seen multiple great coded app nobody can use because they are not documented well enough because coders don’t document their stuff, especially in the falcon world.
If he does have an excel sheet, and sends it to me, I can throw it into a DB in about two seconds.
2 seconds, my foot
It doesn’t take a web engineer to convert a xls spreadsheet to a db. i can do that on my ownBut the data in falcon is constantly changing, at this time i maintain twos for korea:
one for 432, one for 433 and even if i wanted to share that work, you fail to understand that it takes years to place all fixes at the correct spot. and then a new codes comes in for the tacan and you have to start from the ground up because all the coordinates were screwed and you need to start all over again. Because if you move the navaid station, you move all the fixes and the coordinates !!just please understand you guys only see the visible part of the iceberg, it took quite a bit of time to get there.
in the process, quite a few helping hands disappeared and it’s very rare to find someone able to keep up in the long run.what you want is have the hard part made for you and then just put the cherry on the cake.
Even if it 's a lot of work for me, and even if it’s the wrong way for you - once the hardest part is done, i actually enjoy putting the cherry on top as wellUp to now, only Joe Labrada had the guts to try on his own, And Nikos for the charts.
They have my respect.
All the rest in this discussion are just talking and criticizing and not doing anything -

Well on the other hand it can be and an initiative that something better (not for result, as your maps are above pro level) comes up for the making process and to ease up this load.
Example a tool to auto get the Falcon coordinates and elevation (or whatever) of the objectives would be greatly helpful I believe, I’m sure Monster with terrain editor can gather those info in a nice file to be exported as he has them available and displays-manipulates them in Terrain Editor.Instead of opening falcon going to Recon to get the coordinates or use Terrain editor to pan around the map with objectives on and write down the coordinates and elevations.
Monster are u reading here?
Next would be the availability of the maps specific symbols so that ppl could start working on those.
Also now that I come to think of it if u replace the terrain tiles with white ones or black (doable and way easy) u could display objectives on Terrain Editor Map and easily capture - get the airport layout map, instead of I don’t know what other time consuming procedure to draw the airport for the maps.
Those two I believe would help.
@Asharpe since u where so firm declaring a “wrong way”, please do a sample of your described way so to help out guys and offload them. No need to have accurate data just use some random data to display explain the way.
Red Dog no one argues it needs too much time nor that your work or effort is not great or appreciated, everything in Falcon needs hard work and effort to be done. We love it so much that we would love to see it for every theater.

@Red:
First,
2 seconds, my footFirst, I’ve been an IT Guru and a Web ‘Engineer’ for 15 years. Yes, two seconds. You can export from Excel as a CSV and do a direct import of the CSV, letting the SQL Database create the tables for you.
@Red:
It doesn’t take a web engineer to convert a xls spreadsheet to a db. i can do that on my own
You can do it, my foot.
@Red:
But the data in falcon is constantly changing, at this time i maintain twos for korea:
one for 432, one for 433So you yourself have said your setup is hard to maintain….and you yourself are admitting the data is constantly changing. This is exactly why you put it into a database.
With Dreamweaver image maps (1990’s tech) you have to update the image map and then recompile and export the image map everytime a piece of data changes. With a database you update the underlying data and the UI code for handling the map automatically adjusts everything for the changes. This is exactly why the industry stopped using image maps and started using databases.@Red:
and even if i wanted to share that work
And there in lies the rub. I am really getting tied of this. Why did you do this, if not to share it? Why is it so hard to share your data, versus the rest of the image? Do you have a copyright to protect? A trademark to protect? Some kind of secret in your image map code you are going to exploit for profit?
Not sharing your data is punishing the very community you are professing to help, for absolutely zero benefit to you.
@Red:
you fail to understand that it takes years to place all fixes at the correct spot. and then a new codes comes in for the tacan and you have to start from the ground up because all the coordinates were screwed and you need to start all over again. Because if you move the navaid station, you move all the fixes and the coordinates !!
Let’s assume this is true. Let’s assume you move the navaid station by a fixed factor. If this was a database, you could run a very simple update script to fix all the coordinates. Except it’s not.
@Red:
what you want is have the hard part made for you and then just put the cherry on the cake.
I 100% concur. The data collection and entry is the hard part. That you have already done and refuse to share per your post right here:
@Red:
and even if i wanted to share that work
@Red:
All the rest in this discussion are just talking and criticizing and not doing anything
Thanks for not sharing your stolen information from Falcon. It makes everyone’s attempt to help you so much easier.

First, I’ve been an IT Guru and a Web ‘Engineer’ for 15 years.
ASharpe, your knowledge of web design could be very useful. I understand that you see the kneemaps (or management) as something simple (you’ve almost certainly worked on more complex projects). Do not bother, please (I use a translator. I use simple sentences. I hope the meaning of my words is understood). I think you can understand that many of us (without your knowledge) have invested years in our small projects … with obstacles, short cuts, quick fixes, improvements, … but especially: great enthusiasm and determination (the that compensates for our deficiencies). And when we get a result (even if it was with a disproportionate effort) we are very satisfied with the result. We thought, “nevertheless, we made it!”
@Red:
Up to now, only Joe Labrada had the guts to try on his own, And Nikos for the charts.
They have my respect.I’m no expert in photoshop, or web pages, no programming … I really just dominated the word and excel (programs that I studied for a review) …
I am aware of my technical and artistic limitations. I am aware that, with the right knowledge, much of my work could have been done more quickly, effectively, and the results would be superior from an artistic point of view.
On more than one occasion I have had doubts that have blocked the project … But thanks to the support of people who know more than I could carry on and improve the project. There are so many people who have helped me it’s hard to list them all … But I find them hard at this post: Arty (with your incredible video tutorials, do not hesitate to share your knowledge) RedDog (and years with our first stations.dat and your fabulous and inspiring work kneemaps) flyway (with patches of Portugal), Nikos and Nil (with perfectionism that I adore) … I am proud to have your help. If not for you POH 0.7.0 not see the light ever. Thank you very much to all.

Can we get a removal of that link please?

I removed, but why you aren’t editing your own post? you can do that

99% of forum software I’ve been on has a deadline for post editing that expires after like 24 hours or something. Had no reason to think this was any different.
