Typo on pg 63 of Training Manual
-
I think there’s a typo on pg 63 of the BMS Training Manual. It says:
The best glide speed is thus typically set to 200 knots. Best glide speed with gear down is 10 knots less than gear up best glide speed (190 kts). To find out your best glide speed in any configuration just fly a 7° AOA attitude. The real Dash 1 manual says that the F-16 will go 7 Nm over the ground for every 5000 ft of altitude you lose. That is a fineness of 8.4. You will cover 8.4 Nm for each 1000 feet of altitude loss
I think the last reference there to 1000 feet should actually be to 10,000 feet…
Cheers!

there’s indeed something wrong in there, thanks
But I thing the typo is more a unit problem from a metric guy having often issues with feet/Nm conversion.
1.4 NM for 1000 feet altitude loss is 8400feet horizontal distance for 1000 feet height
so the fineness is indeed 8.4. but the manual should say:You will cover 8400 feet (iso 8.4 Nm) for each 1000 feet of altitude loss
I’ll correct it, thanks

Ah yes, true. Forgive my very poor maths!

We will not! You’ll have to pass a BMS Maths refresher before posting such nonsense again. Please contact your regional proctor for administration.
